Except having read it and having seen it, I'm neither going to put forward the money to buy it again, or likely the time to watch it. I don't have time to rewatch 50 or 60 episode series before it gets to the part where it would be sort of new, just because it looks a little different than it did. I barely have time to watch stuff I've never seen at all, let alone rewatch things. I play stuff as background noise while I work or talk to people, and turn my head to watch at a good scene, generally.
The anime did the scenes you mention JUST FINE before. The story was told, the action was followable, nothing was lost. If the anime had cut a ton of stuff (like Akira) or completely changed the ending, (like FMA) or the anime was ungodly long due to filler and they were doing a nice condensing of it (Like Inu Yasha or Dragonball Z) then the need for a remake would be one thing.
But aside from that one violent Hisoka fight int he token tournament arc, pretty much everything from the manga was there, and it was done almost entirely as an OVA series, so most of the quality and pacing is already really good.
I'd rather they just get to the new material and go from there, since thats a solid 50 episodes worth of content right there and I'd rather ensure they get the bug arc done than possibly not even get to it again if ratings fail.
Yes, shiny new digital era animation is nice, but its not the end all be all.
Again extremely good animation. I watched a clip of the Kurapika fight. Yeah, sorry I'm sure that was great for the time but that can't even compare to Madhouse quality. But I suppose it's not for people who aren't interested in the animation.

Its a way to draw new fans as well as get back some old ones who may have been put off by the hiatuses. Its also a way to give people a refresher. I just wish I'd known this before I watched the entire anime and ovas since it probably will feel like too much of a repeat now

In that case, Madhouse is perfect for HunterxHunter. They've adapted two of Fukumoto's works with great success. For reference Fukumoto manga are purely mental manga that go deep into the intricacies of gambles and human psychology. There's a lot of just thinking and talking. Yet it's their spins to the thinking process that makes it so interesting, the execution of it, the atmosphere they generate that makes the delving into the human psyche fun and interesting and enrapturing. Go check out an episode of Kaiji or Akagi (not so much this since it's mostly playing mahjong…but in a badass way!!!) when you have the chance even if it's a random minute of a character deep in a gamble (I'd put something here myself but youtube's being an ass).
Here's an example from what you may expect. I don't believe it's the same team but some of the people that worked on this should definitely be working on the Hunter anime (it's not a really apt example since it's an action scene more than a thinking scene but it's the best I could find and it serves to emphasize what I mean by atmosphere and execution. Really wish I could find a thinking scene though since it shwos exactly how fun and cool, self-character monologues can be).
You may not think it's worth it but I respectfully disagree.

Well that explains why you don't understand that the previous anime already did everything just fine. How can you judge it when you haven't even seen it or how they handle all the pacing and actual story? An out of context 30 second action scene clip is irrelevant compared to the whole 50 hour product.

York Shin doesn't even start until chapter 70 and then it goes till somewhere in the 120's. Even squeezing 3 chapters per episode (the upper limit of what you can comfortably fit, filler free, without losing anything…) that's still 40 something episodes. And HxH has a LOT of talking, so it'd be less than that, so closer to 60 episodes if they do the more standard 2 chapters per episode.
(The previous anime and OVAs came out to 92 episodes to get through Greed Island, incidentally.) Either way its the better part of a year-2 years+ ... and taxing their resources. Just to get close to where it was. (The upside is, it really could be 3 years without any filler with the amount of content already there.)
Do you want them adapting 6 chapters per episode? Given that you hated the Inu Yasha ending (And if ever there was a series that needed editing and to fit 5-7 chapters into a single episode, it was Inu Yasha) you can't want this insanely rushed too.

Slayers Revolution came back after a 10 year break, caught veiwers back up tot the basics within the first episode… and then not only ran with it, but then got insanely continuity heavy with tons of references to past events.
Of course, Slayers Revolution kind of sucked, (mostly on account of blatantly rehashing the original first season of the show, right down to BOTH of the villains) so maybe its not the best example.

Robby's right. I don't know how Madhouse expects to adapt Hunter X Hunter entire without making a lot of edits for pacing purposes. The very fact that the original series has something like 90 episodes (including the OVAs) and we've got a ton of new material to cover already makes this one hell of a proposition. I'm not sure what they're thinking, but..
If it's true that they're going to be doing so much Hunter X Hunter (from the start?!) then you can be damn sure this means Togashi will be back for a while. I doubt a complete Hunter X Hunter retelling a-la FMA Brotherhood or even an anime at all would get the go ahead unless JUMP was prepared to make this a serious franchise again. One wonders if more than Togashi's return to JUMP was discussed, when the editor-in-chief of JUMP tweeted about going to speak with Togashi… They kept the release of the volumes as collateral because they're his financial lifeblood, but now that they're coming out, and there's going to be a new anime in the Fall, I feel confident in saying we're going to get more Hunter X Hunter than ten or twenty chapters,
And that's NOTHING to complain about.

Although, with Naruto clearly nearing its end and Bleach tanking, it's easy to understand why Jump would be all the more eager to get a flagship title running properly again, moreso than they perhaps have been the last couple years.

It was mentioned over in the JUMP ToC thread at the time; can't seem to find where.
But yeah, this is no small commitment. Even a Chimera Ant arc adaptation is a big investment for an arc that isn't even finished yet. JUMP has a lot of anime airing right now: Toriko, Beelzebub, Gintama, Sket DANCE, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and others… and with new Kenshin projects being greenlit (a new anime, video games, and a live action movie), and a second season of Bakuman in the fall, you have the sense that they're really trying to stay competitive, even if it means resurrecting old franchises (like Level E).
I think it means something.

I heard that the people doing it aren't that good. I doubt it's going to be worse than the first anime because that would be like saying "we don't give a fuck about how we animate this project", but you shouldn't expect them to spend all of their money on it.

See, I honestly love how if we complain about a major flaw that Togashi has then we are automatically called whiners by you. If he did that, people would have every right to complain since a week long break would not merit using that wording. Or is there some reason we aren't allowed to be upset when we get invested in a story and then the author refuses to work on it? Hiatuses aren't just an annoyance when they're as long as what we've had since it also disrupts the flow of the story as not everyone puts the effort to remember details about a story that hasn't been continued for a year
No one complains (very loudly anyway) when an author takes off a week here and there, that's not a problem at all. One week out of every 6 or 10 isn't unreasonable given how nonstop these guys have to work, especially if they're legitimately doing research and prepping materials or putting together bonus materials for their latest trade or whatnot.
It's when they take 70 weeks off after only working for 10 that its a problem.

All of us disapprove of the hiatuses, even those of us who defend Togashi the most. However, we choose not to be vocal about our complaints. Why? Because complaining about Togashi's laziness/cancer/severe back problems/Dragon Quest addiction/twenty-two children/murder trial/sex chamber/opium addiction is no longer even remotely interesting (and it wasn't really to begin with) and it's completely and utterly stale. Go back like 200 pages in this thread and you'll find people spewing the same overly-verbose, lengthy arguments. Honestly just accept that the series has some major flaws in its release and move on. Part of the reason why this thread needs to be closed after every fresh batch of chapters is because if someone bumps the thread four months after the hiatus with just genuine thoughts about the series, a swarm of bug-eyed, tittering goons will infiltrate the barriers of a once-good discussion to pollute the thread, spawning vicious and legitimately dumb flame wars. It would be really nice if during a hiatus everyone could talk in peace, discussing old arcs, new thoughts or little easter eggs or hints that someone discovered while reading. Hopefully with the onset of the new anime, this thread won't be closed shortly after Togashi takes a break (though I've got my fingers crossed what with the announcement of the anime that he'll stick with it this time for a good haul).

Yeah for a while I've had this theory/wishful thinking, that maybe Jump was willing/wanted HXH on the back burner for a while because Togashi needed a break and Naruto and Bleach were doing so well as ratings grabbers behind OP. Now that Naruto's ending and Togashi hasn't had to do weekly serialization in like 7 years, this would be awesome if Jump needs HXH back as a star and Togashi has the time to give it weekly support
I only watched maybe 5 episodes of the original anime so this'll all be new to me.
I think that after all the break time he's had he should work on the series for significantly longer than normal. One good thing about the hiatuses (Yes. There was one good thing) is that it's very unlikely the series will go downhill once it comes back because Togashi probably has every thing planned out by now with all the time he had between breaks. The way Gon gets his nen (and arm) back will probably be extremely plausible by Shonen fantasy comics standards.
Unless of course Togashi wants to rush the ending of the series like he did with Yu Yu Hakusho but somehow I doubt that. Jump would do their very best to dissuade him and I actually believe that Togashi still has passion and love for his series even if he doesn't work on it very much anymore. I doubt he'd want to rush the ending of his creation. If he did it'd probably've ended at volume 20 or something.
Point is I'm glad to hear we're getting more chapters than normal because I definitely want to see further plot progression for this great, great series. I think Bucephalus is right and we shouldn't bitch about the hiatuses anymore. Yes, the scheduling for this series is terrible, we're all agreed on that but there's really no point anymore. And I really have no right to complain since I got up to date with the series in April or May and the series is going to come back from hiatus in August and possibly with a longer batch of fresh chapters than before so I barely had to wait at all compared to most of the people here. I actually said when I was in an argument over the hiatuses that it was rather pointless and the argument wouldn't go anywhere so I stopped once I had made my points. I think that I'd agree I would prefer to actually discuss the series itself. This series is actually one of the better/best Shonen for discussion.
I honestly can't wait until the Chimera Ants arc gets adapted because we'll see this badboy get animated.

On topic; On contrary to most people here, I'm not sure that restarting the anime means they expect the manga to be more regular as of now. Atm there is about 3 years worth of anime material (if 2ch/ep), add some breaks in between the anime seasons and you can make them 4 or 5, by then the chimera arc will be finished and they can stop the anime again if there wasn't enough material. May be I'm just pessimistic, but I honestly passed the point where I would think that HxH will ever be a regular series again.

The last series had TONS upon TONS of shitty filler and if this new animation goes by the manga with no additional filler than i'm all for it.

Akamatsu takes one week of out of every four probably just for the sake of a break. And you know what? It's annoying but I don't mind. He does good work, let him have his rest (of course going to a break after two chapters is a bit much but he probably had a good reason for that time). See one week every month is reasonable and just a mangaka trying to not overwork himself and have a life. But working only 10 weeks in a year? That's just not even being a mangaka.
It was mentioned before, but Togashi had kids and problems with his home life which caused him to go on hiatuses. Also, to a some degree, he's kinda old and has been a famous mangaka since the early 90's when YYH came out. And even back then, he had problems with overwork. He's a great author but often doesn't do well working fast, and sells plenty enough to do so. I much prefer having a schedule with long hiatuses than ending the series all of a sudden. Course, I'd welcome HXH going back to a regular schedule if it does.
This whole new anime thing is interesting. Most likely it's a decision based around the idea that the last anime ended in like 2004 or something… Kind of a long time to be making another OVA. It just annoys me a little to think how it's gonna be like 2 years before we finally get to see the Chimera Ant arc animated. Something in that area, right? The Chimera Ant arc started in volume 13 I think. Maybe less, I guess, if they're not putting any filler in. It'd be like 75~ episodes in, maybe a year and a half... Ah, well. It'll be awesome regardless.
In my opinion its definatly time the HxH manga was wrapped up.
Its been on the go 13 years by my count and Togashi clearly has problems getting the material out.
He should concentrate on making sure the series has a decent ending. Then the new anime can animate it completely.

Killua's brother (Calluto? I forget their names all sound the same...) that joined up with the Genei Ryodan to try to bring Killua back to the Zoldyk family.
I'm probably forgetting some. Then there's also small things like that scene where Killua sensed a presence and ran away, which was later revealed to be Netero training. There might've been some of those foreshadowing something in the future.

You'd think the devil music wouldn't be hard to find. Since one playthrough causes horrible disfiguration or death… I'm sure that'd end up on the news once a body was found.

Though he'll probably try to bring back Killua at some point. I remember when Silva claimed Killua would return at some point. I definitely want to see a follow up to that boast. There's also the replacements for the lost Ryodan members.
My Hero Academia is my favorite manga series right now. At least so long as the high of its greatness remains. United States of Smash.
I'm so excited for the new anime adaptation. Honestly I never watched the first one, but with this I'll be able to get my GF to get into HxH because it's so damn hard to get her to read manga. But with the anime It'll probably be easy.

I think the missing brothers name is Alluka, also is the new chapter out this week or the next? Definitely into this series now so I can't wait.
I normally wouldn't think that a Hanso/Senritsu reappearance is really necessary, but considering the fact that Togashi brought back borderline-fodder characters like Pokkle and Ponzu, I'd say clearly stronger characters like Hanso have to come back.
And in addition to all the stuff kewl listed, I feel like an arc dedicated to the corruption and subterfuge within the ranks of the Hunter organization (didn't Netero mention something about the Vice Chairman's plot or something?) is eminent, and for a series like Hunter X Hunter there's simply got to be an arc or two that showcases "the best nen users/hunters in the world." I feel like we've yet to truly see anyone (except maybe the Royal Guards, Ging, the King, younger Netero [who we didn't really see in action to begin with] and possibly Silva) who can be cited as one of the best nen users in the world, and what with the mention of 1-3 Star hunters, it would be interesting to get an arc portraying the works and efforts of an incredibly adept and influential hunter.
By the way, something I found that's pretty cool: "An alternate way of discovering his (Killua's runaway brother) name is via a pattern seen with the Zoldyck sons from oldest to youngest: IlluMilluKilluAlluKalluto. Each sibling has the common letters llu in the middle of their name and while putting their names together, you get Alluka."

Killua was said to be the person with the most talent to ever have been born into the Zoldyck family, yet Kalluto is younger and yet is strong enough to be part of the phantom troupe. Even if Kalluto isn't as strong as Killua is now, he's definitely far stronger than Killua was when he was first introduced, but is still a few years younger than Killua was at that point. To me this would seem to indicate that Kalluto would have more talent than Killua unless Kalluto learned Nen at a much younger age, but even that seems unlikely as I can think of absolutely no reason why he'd learn Nen long before Killua if killua has more talent

I mean, I dunno. The Ryodan seems to be pretty funny about who they let join. Remember when we saw the "Arm Wrestling strength" thing, to let you know where the Ryodan members stood in terms of sheer physical power? Gon just barely beat Shizuku, physically the twelfth weakest out of the thirteen troupe members, who was using her non-dominant hand. Despite this, because of the other skills they displayed, after Nobunaga captured Gon and Killua they were considering letting them into the troupe. The superhuman feats the kids accomplished even at the very beginning of the manga suggest that they were still quite, quite strong.
Kalluto admitted himself, as he saw the troupe fighting the ants, that he was far, far weaker than they.
And with Killua as he is now, he'd give even some Phantom Troupe members a real run for their money.

True, but even so, age is something that has to be taken into account. Killua is around 2 years older than Kalluto. The fact that Kalluto already knows Nen alone is enough to make me believe he must have some sort of talent that Killua doesn't. Since Milluki who is older than Killua showed no signs of knowing about Nen when he was trying to figure out greed island, I can't imagine any reason why Silva or someone else in the Zoldycks would teach Kalluto nen first, so Kalluto must have either found out about it and found a trainer in secret somehow, or learned it entirely by himself. The thing is that finding out about nen is pretty difficult since only nen users can even see most Nen abilities and they'd pretty much have to voluntarily spill the secrets of Nen for someone to learn about them, and the Zoldycks lived in isolation
Also, I personaly, even if I know it is unreasonale, would want to know more about Grandpa Zoldyck and how he can be alive and still active.

That really confused me. He said he fought Netero's grand father…
But then again.. Netero became so fast that a day long ritual took him mere seconds, and even Pitou couldn't keep up with his hand motions, so I guess there are just some freaks of nature in this series.
Gon beat Nobunaga in the arm wrestling too when he got angry right? I thought Gon was just letting Nobunaga slam his hand because if they "lost their cool, they were dead."
I'm really curious how it'd be even possible to beat Nobunaga in a fight though. I guess if you're as fast as the King it wouldn't be a problem but for everyone else?
Wasn't it Netero that fought Killua's grand-granpa, uhmm, Zeno's dad? That's at least how I remember it.
And Gon beating Nobunaga in arm wrestling allways bugged me. He lost to the second weakest Ryodan using her bad arm, yet wins against Nobunaga cause he's enraged? Well, it's still Shounen logic, but since HxH seems to follow a different kind of logic that most usual shonen. . .
