@Don:
i can
t imagine that THIS should be the last arc…what is with gon
s father...what is with killua`s family..what is with hisoka???Yeah, I know there's far too many loose ends for it to end this arc, but honestly the only people I can think of who can possibly damage the king are Killua's grandad (who left, didn't he?) or Ging (based solely on speculation/Kite).
I agree that things will likely be more psychological, but we still have that Pufu nutjob running around… And I think Yupi would be too dangerous as well. Basically I see the Royal Guards somehow getting defeated (probably worn down by multiple consecutive battles with the exception of Pitou) while the King will be psychologically turned to be something like Yusuke's dad from YYH. -
WOW!!! That was a very intense chapter! But… damn you, Togashi! Don't you dare kill one of the most badass gramps in manga history. I really hope Netero pulls through next chapter even after unleashing his last resort. I just really don't want him to die just yet...
At least let the old guy kill the King before kissing his life goodbye... That would at least lessen the grief I'd feel if Netero does die...
-
Well Netero is all dry up after using his ultimate attack and someone is going to appear/show up in the last page Netero says he's not alone so can I take it that there another strong character is going to show up that can match the king :ninja:
-
i find really hard to read chapters with the kings coz he reminds me of Dragon Ball D:, it really distract me D:
Does someone here thinks that Pufu is a mix of Hagi from Blood+ and Fried from Fairy Tail? If he ends up with green hair i will be sure at 100%
-

Maybe it's Zeno since that's the only person I can imagine it being. I could be wrong though since I barely remember the chapters before the hiatus.
Great chapter and I have no idea how the King is going to be defeated. I loved Netero's attack, it just looked so devastating. And in this page, it looks like he was giving the king the finger hahaha:
-
mereum does look like cell but unlike cell mereum has a personality (shocking huh?)
Now onto the chapter: This chapter was awesome, seeing netero get his arm hacked off made me feel oh fuck he's gonna die but seeing as how his power lies solely on the heart and not his arms that was awesome. I wonder who netero is talking about at the end there.
this 2 page spread was awesome.
!
To me it's like netero is saying with his hand "ok you took my leg and arm well here's a blast so fuck you" at the same time
-
:(
I wanna sleep till next thursday now.

Can someone beat the king ? oO
-
Can someone beat the king ? oO
If the man in your avatar could appear in HxH, the King would probably get confused by the sudden turn from serious to silly that the manga would inevitably take and thus he'd commit suicide. Alternatively, Gintoki could jump mangas and give the King a motivational speech about strawberry milk that'd somehow turn the King to a good guy. Yeah, I like my comedy mangas too much
Or you know, another strong hunter could come or the King could simply be psychologically turned away from eating humans like Yusuke's dad in YYH (which is from the same author, so I'm kinda thinking something like that will happen, albeit presented in a different manner). -
:O speechless, one of the best chapters I've read and a great ending to one of my favorite characters.
Both the king and netero are dignified and 'complete', even if noone was to beat the king, netero still shaped the kings view and the outcome of the arc. He also answered his question from couple of chapters back at the end("when did i start to hesitate/become merciful").
I loved how his last words were warning of what's to come and not some sentimental thing or thought that noone is ever gonna hear.
-
Uhhh, Netero isn't dead, man. Since on the last page it says, "Netero will show him the stubbornness of humans" or something to that effect.

Yeah, it's a given that Old Net is on his last legs but just not for the time being. If anyone's going to beat the King, it's going to have to be a team-up of sorts. As pissed off as Gon is, I doubt he would even be able to even scratch the King. Maybe he'll deal the finishing blow or something but even that's pushing it IMO. But this is Togashi we're talking about here, so the king may just give up and become a hermit for all we know.

God, I just hope the series won't go on hiatus after chapter 300

Magnificent. It is magnificent.

don't jinx it, and hopefully it never goes on hiatus again…. NEVER
-
Best chapter of Hunter X Hunter. I mean… holy shit. Insult was good, but this was just on a different level.
Togashi, I fucking love the way you've handled this set of 10 chapters. While the previous serializations were good, they dragged on. But this? You've gotten more accomplished in the past 7 chapters than you did in the previous 30.
That spread of Netero flicking off the King is godly.
Thumbs up, Togashi.
-
Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure Netero IS finished, since he said he would say the King's name when he was ready to admit defeat. The whole "you underestimate humans" comment just means that there's still some insanely powerful bastards out there (the Phantom Troupe, Ging, etc.) capable of defeating the King should he try to force everyone into a ghetto, where they might be eaten.
I'm so impressed with this chapter. If this was the final chapter of the series, I might be a bit bummed, but we've got THREE MORE CHAPTERS left. Amazing.
-
Togashi is up there with Oda and Miura, I have to admit. Just his narrative style is awesome, he uses narration much more than any other mangaka that I've ever seen. And his symbolism, like with the flowers and then one wilting or all the needles on the moon.
I also feel that Netero is going to die, sad as it is. I have no idea what's going to happen after that happens though. Is Gon going to beat him? Killua? Someone else? Nobody? I have no clue.
-
i'm speechless with this chapter. just… wow
-
Hrm. I am reminded of when Netero challenged Gon and Killua to get the ball from him, and didn't use one of his hands or one of his legs….

and you know the ironic thing? the only leg and arm that netero used that time was the one that the king ripped-off from his body
-
netero for next nakama
but seriously such a great manga i wonder how much longer it will continue for?
-
Netero is dead. I don't know your definision but he lost and after his ultimate attack failed he was out of nen (I think he used to to keep his youth and body) and instantly become withered old man. The man who couple of pages ago had huge muscles become skinny and dry and then bones.
-
Oh believe you me, bros. I thought that he was going to die in this chapter from the get-go (hell, the title is "The End" and Netero said the King's name) but seeing as how the preview text on the last page says, "Despite having reached his limit, Netero will show him how stubborn humans can be! The fight concludes next time!!!" Ole' Togashi has other plans. I have no idea what the hell Net's going to do but he isn't dead yet. He's withered down to skin and bones but he's not dead yet. Hard to believe but hey, this is a manga where a wolf shoots missiles at a talking octopus.
-
Netero is done for. He gave the king his name so he already acknowledged he lost. As long as he doesn't try to attack the king he won't be killed. When Netero says he's not alone and the comment about humans don't give up he basically means other humans will continue to fight in his place until the king finally loses.
-
your version: "Despite having reached his limit, Netero will show him how stubborn humans can be! The fight concludes next time!!!"
Mangastream+Binktopia version: "Netero displays the obstinacy of humans as he reaches his limit, the complete conclusion next week!!"
Which scan did you read.

I read the scan on Onemanga, http://www.onemanga.com/Hunter_X_Hunter/297/19/. Looks like Sleepyfans may have screwed up the translation, that explains a lot. Well, Old Man Net is indeed dead =/. At least he went out in style, I could only hope to die giving a mutant ant the bird while I shoot a giant laser at him.
-
Yeah, Netero's done. More or less. I mean he's not fighting anymore, I dunno if the king plans on killing him.
But now what happens? Given the last chapter I do think Jairo will show up eventually. I dunno if the Genei Ryodan's gonna show up… And you're right there ARE stronger fighters, but the story doesn't seem like it's gonna be a "just beat all the opponents" arc and it's highly psychological and philosophical. Next we have Knuckle's battle with 1/7 Pufu. Unless Togashi manages to stretch Netero's death into a whole chapter. -
Barring some big character change (never rule it out in this series), I think the King will defintely have to die. I mean, dude said he was going to put all humans in a ghetto and choose which ones he and is RACE are gonna eat? Like hell that's gonna happen.
But who in the hell can beat him, unless Ging arrives?
-
@SSM:
But who in the hell can beat him, unless Ging arrives?
Maybe if everyone just ganged up on the King (Phantom Troupe, The rest of the Hunter's organization etc.) they may have a chance. But like kewl0210 said, this arc has been highly philosophical and psychological. So the question may not be "Who's going to beat the King?" But rather, "What is it going to take to get the King to step down willingly?" That's what I always loved about HunterxHunter, it's one of the few shounen manga that makes you think.
-

I personally am going to stick with my "something happens to the King that turns him into Yusuke's dad2.0 where he won't eat humans" theory until someone strong enough to stand a chance against him appears. The arc seems really like it's going in a direction where he won't be physically defeated, but rather psychologically and/or philosophically defeated. There's been several examples among the ants of going through changes psychologically as they grow and the King has been set up no differently. There's a reason he sat around playing that game with the blind girl for however many chapters, and I don't think it was simply to improve his abilities, give him a sliver of concern for humans but no more, and create a reason to save Gon's fight for the end (or close to) of the arc. I think that was the start of the events that will turn the King away from eating humans. I mean, before he sat around with the blind girl (sorry, forget her name), he would have thrashed Netero right off the bat and ate him. Now he's taken a step away from that pure brutality. Perhaps next chapter Netero will make the King take another step away from what he used to be through w/e Netero does as he dies.
Sorry for the wannabe AGOG length post… -

Aw, that's a shame. Well, it's their loss. They are missing some hot, laser-firing Buddha statue action!

With a badass old guy flipping off a mutant ant king while it's happening nonetheless!
-
@SSM:

It's too quick to say if ging could kill mereum. Yes ging is suppose to be the best hunter but that doesn't make him the strongest fighter. Netero is way high up there with fighters and mereum is playing him like a cheap gameboy system.

Sorry for the wannabe AGOG length post…I like your theory about mereum becoming this manga's raizen (that's yusuke's dad, i'm a big fan of YYH)
-
With a badass old guy flipping off a mutant ant king while it's happening nonetheless!
Hahaha, yeah. Moments like that kind of make up for the constant hiatuses.
Kind of.
-
I like your theory about mereum becoming this manga's raizen (that's yusuke's dad, i'm a big fan of YYH)
Thank you, I couldn't remember his name aside from starting with "Rai". It's been a while since YYH for me… All this not remembering names is kinda bugging me. My memory is apparently not as good as I thought >.<
And indeed, Dr. Monotone, such epic moments do almost make up for the long hiatuses. Couple weeks ago we got that one epic spread of Netero vs the King that Zeno somehow snuck into that was really awesome. And aside from awesome things like lazor-beam firing Buddha statues and raining dragons, HxH doesn't follow any rules and manages to avoid the mistakes that ruin other manga like Bleh and Sasuke (and to an extent KHR's future arc, but damn have the past 3 chapters ever made up for any of my other complaints). -
HXH really is great no matter what, every time it comes back it becomes a million times better then most other manga I'm also reading now…but seriously, who the hell is going to kill the King if a baddass old man w/ Godly powers can't? Guess a group attack is the best but who will it be if not the ones who are already fighting?
-
a group attack would mean instand death. Whenever a group attacks one person in this manga it usually ended up in instant death (as far as I could remember)
-
Great chapter, but I don't see why Killua's family wouldn't be able to kill the king. Wasn't it said that the father of Killua's grandfather is really strong? I bet with the rest of the family helping him, he would be able to kill the king. The problem is that the royal guards will also fight.
-

I don't know, man. Net was one of the strongest Nen users out there and he fell to the King despite using his Laser Buddha Cannon of Great Justice. So honestly, I don't think Killua's family can do much better. I don't think anyone outside of Ging can touch him. But bringing Ging into the mix is pretty predictable and this manga is far from predictable. I think loledinmypants definitely has a good idea as to what may happen since it has become apparent that the ants are becoming more compassionate. Maybe at the end the girl that he hangs out with can convince him to stop seeing as how she's the King's only human friend. Honestly, it can go anywhere at this point.

Killua's grandfather is weaker than Netero. Remember the flashback right after Netero and the grandfather descended with the dragons before the attack against the king's camp started. It showed a younger Netero as he was training. Killua's grandfather met Netero and was so in awe of how powerful he was. He wanted Netero to be his master.
The king can possibly be defeated if all the top tier fighters joined forced. But I don't really see that happening though. Knowing Togashi he'll probably make it where as more and more humans fight him. The king will eventuallyl acknowledge the strength of humans and decide that humans and ants can coexist.
-
Great chapter. Was I the only one who thought netero to grow another leg like satan in dragonball crazy thought I know hahahahaha …
As for the king I do not think they will be defeated any time soon. I personally think they will form a powerfull faction in the world and that will cause like a big war. think something like terminator , the cyborg faction at war with the humans.
That will be the world Gon will have to live in. I think it wouldn't affect his adventures much, especially if kaito is saved after this battle. -

I'm pretty much thinking that this, combined with having become friends with the blind girl, is how he'll be turned. But it may be less acknowledging their strength in battle as much as acknowledging their strength of will imo.
@GEPPETTOSMONSTER:a group attack would mean instand death. Whenever a group attacks one person in this manga it usually ended up in instant death (as far as I could remember)
This is partly why I believe in my theory so much despite this manga being so damn unpredictable. Unless the group attack policy changes or someone stronger than Netero appears (only Ging comes to mind), the King just isn't going to be beat in a fight imo.@Mugiwara_no_Ice:

Why spend so long trying to stop the King only to fail just so that atrocities can go on offscreen? I suppose it'd mindfuck Gon some to know that the mission overall failed and thousands will die, but Togashi has so many other efficient ways he can screw with Gon's head.

Netero is strong, but I recall him saying that now he he isn't even in the top five… I mean he IS an old man, even if he is a badass motherfucker.
And I'm pretty sure Ging isn't the strongest; He's probably like 3rd or something.
But anyway, I hate to say it, but I don't think anyone will beat the King. Instead, I think I'll he'll just peacefully step down, killing Pufu in the process, or become a great leader, killing Pufu in the process. Either way, Pufu needs to die, since he's way too much of a hindrance to the King having an epiphany and realizing what's wrong with his thinking.
By the way this chapter ended, I'm positive the King will see something that will just blow his mind (maybe Gon about to murder Pitou, and deciding to forgive him, making the King realize that humans are incredibly interesting and complex organisms).
While I would like to see the King set up his ghettos, and have some badass military junta, only to be later toppled by Ging, Silva, Zeno and various other insanely powerful behemoths, I think the scenario (with Gon) that I listed up there would fit this psychological arc much better.
Oh yeah, and I'm confident that the Phantom Troupe is going to make their comeback either at the end of this arc or the next one. Apparently Chrollo's nen is unsealed (from the looks of the cliffhanger 1281399821 chapters ago), so we should be expecting some more pedophilic, pelvic-thrusting clown action from Hisoka very, very soon.
It would be extremely interesting to see the King become a world leader, only to be tricked by Chrollo in disguise, causing the King to lose his nen. After that, it would be insanely great if the King just continued to rule, since he had already realized that his words and thoughts were more important than his fists. And, of course, another Chrollo arc, which is bound to be awesome.

I just glanced at this thread so this may have come up already but thought I would mention it. I really think the kid that Koruto/Colt is taking care of could factor in. Last we saw hir the kid was still just a toddler:
http://www.onemanga.com/Hunter_X_Hunter/258/13/
Nonetheless, if you want a situation to finally push Meryem completely past his moral ambiguity, finding out these humans helped protect this last child of his mother might do it… Or maybe not. Just a thought... I guess I just like Meryem and want to see him be redeemed.
