Dr Vegapunk

nah i dont think so
hes a marine

yeah
first i thought that also
i dunno really -
Nah I hope that they don"t do that, a Marine Dr. would be a dissgrace and allso Usopp would lose his job and that would be lame coz jis inventions are hillariouse
-
if not vegapunk himself someone close to him with the same (maybe deeper) knowledge.
but this is pipe dream, we won't see vegapunk in the next 2/3 i think (imo). -
We saw Ussop's position as "carpenter" get phased out and his "inventor" status could be replaced by a new crewmember as well. I dunno if it'll happen but it seems possible. Oda has mentioned Vegapunk quite a few times and I'm sure we'll see him (and maybe an assistant that works with him, hint hint) sometime in the future.
-
Usopp is the sharpshooter…
I dunno, I kind of got the impression that Dr. Vegapunk was going to turn out to be a bad guy, at least as far as the Strawhats were concerned. Maybe he's working on a way to "cure" DFs or something crazy like that. It's just my opinion which is not in any way based in fact.

Then, I have a feeling that Lucchi will join SH and be their cold-blooded no-discrimination-shigan carpenter. But hell, I just can't get everything I want.
As for Dr. Vegapunk, what kind of possible scenario, can make him turn over from the government and be a fugitive pirate instead, and what more, with the Strawhats!!?? Because of lack of information about him upto now, I can't really think of a way. If it is just about mysteriousness, then our guy Jimbei sure also have a shot to become a strawhat crew (Wow, isn't that a theory material!? Provided that he is fishman and all, and unique, and big, and Arlong's buddy, and SHICHIBUKAI[hehehe]).
But it is still possible, he just need to have a plausible dream (or, what I'd say, plot excuse) to be a full-pledged Strawhats. His job (scientist?) will be uncommon in a ship just like Robin (who is an archeologist/historian!). He can be as usefull or more than Robin. Otherwise, Cool.
-
Did we ever did get confirmation that he's a government person? We know that the marines are the ones using most of his scientific breakthroughs (and keeping some secret like calm belt travel) but we don't know his relationship with them. I know the Mr. 4 pair in Arabasta knew him because of Lasso the "gun-dog" but perhaps Crocodile's connections and status as a Shichibukai allowed that. If he's not with them the only idea I have is that he's being blackmailed to make stuff for the marines. I can't imagine what dream he would have that could be beneficial from traveling with pirates though. Find super rare materials at the end of the Grand Line? Go boldly where no man has gone before in the name of scientific investigation? I dunno.
-
Find the origin/secret of DFs? presumed by vegapunk to be located at Raftel?
And i dont even want him to join =P
-
You know, when people post "I have a feeling that this would happen", I translate that as "This is what I want/would like to happen". I mean, what gives you the feeling that Vegapunk will join, the fact that he hasn't been seen yet? If thats the case I guess Jinbei, Dadan, Ki Zaru and Kaidou will join too.

I dont know if you know this but Pirates and Marines dont mix unless they have a party.
-
I've speculated for a while that Vegapunk might be forced to work for the WG in a similar manner to Oimo and Kashi.
If he were captured during a war around 18 years ago, then he would even be in the running to be Nami's father (she got her brains for somewhere after all.) Unfortunately, that would preclude him from possibly joining the crew.
-
Why does everbody think he is related to Nami I never heard anything about it.
-
Perhaps because she muttered the name to herself after hearing Coby mention him in the conversation she was eavesdropping on. All the same, he probably isn't related to her. She reads the newspapers, so she might have read about some of his discoveries there.
I will howl with laughter if we find out that Vegapunk is Dr. Tsukimi's younger brother.
-
shouldn't this go in the "next new nakama" thread??
-
^^ Or the 'Theories that don't deserve their own thread' thread.
-
Geez, that makes no sense at all.
-
^^ Was that aimed at me? If so, please elaborate.
-
What if Vegapunk is a dead scientist whose studies and work lives on in legend? That's the impression I got after hearing Koby and Helmeppo talk aobut him.
-
i got the exact oposite impression from Coby and Helmeppo at W7. i thought most of the stuff he came up with was recent.
-
Could be.
Koby did say his work from the Last few years has helped the navy dramatically, which is major support To him still being alive but I"m putting my money on him being deceased. Or inactive.
-
Aokiji froze him so that he's only "alive" when they absolutely need him to be.
That way whenever someone questions him about what's he's doing, he and Aokiji can reply simultaneously, "We be chillin'." -
That reminds me of that sniper from one of the metal gear solid games that can "only be awakened by God"
-
Shouldn't it be "Begabank"? I thought Vegapunk was an anime translator name.
-
think those might have taken their name from the professor?
both should be different romaizations of the same name imo. i havent seen the anime episode with the professors name in it so i dont know how its pronounced.

Think hes just a government scientist with alot of crazy sh*t in his head, possibly a litle of the edge, talking to himself, starting to randomly scream and all that.

Bringing up an old Thread ~
I have a request. can someone confirm that Vegapunk is an old man?
cnet's translation is kinda confusing to me
People: It's no use, Vice-Admiral Smoker!!! // The place is still flooded with gas!!! // Ever since that old sod Vegapunk's chemical weaponry experiment went wrong four years ago… / ...the whole island's been rotten to the core!!
~by cnet If you call someone "old sod", isn't it similar to call someone "damn stupid"? I'm not familiar with that saying.
I also read somewhere that japanese are keen to call people old who're already past their 20s.
it's from chapter 658, if someone has a raw and understands japanese, is there something strange in this line that might indicate something that he isn't an old man actually?
And my other question: What do you think will happen, when he sees Franky? WIll he react like Luffy? XD
-
He's not going to join, there is no reason for him to join nor will Luffy offer him the opprotunity. They already have Franky and even though he's the shipwright he shares mechanical knowledge as well. Franky spent two years in Vega Punks home town and went through all of his blue prints etc. He has a laser, even CC couldn't produce a laser liek Vega Punk and that's why he wants Franky's body
I think Vega Punk is a marine to the core, not sure about his views on justice.
It would be interesting to see whether he is working for the marines against his will. Only time will tell.

Your responding to comments years and years old. At this point I don't think anyone thinks he will join some day.

Didn't really notice that to be honest. Oh well, nothing wrong in bringing life to a old thread.

In the raw, Smoker calls him "クソオヤジ" (kuso oyaji). oyaji means 'old man' (and kuso 'damn'). Ace, for example, refered to Whitebeard als oyaji as well.

Anyone think Vegapunk has any chance of being one of the strongest villians later in the series? We've already seen 1 mad scientist but maybe vegapunk is saving one of the most powerful devil fruits for himself. I wouldn't mind a more serious mad scientist rather than the personality CC has.

I don't think he is going to be a villain at all. The fact he was will to fulfill Kuma last wish as a human person to input that command to protect Sunny for those 2 years shows he is a good person. I believe he is either 1. A good person at heart. or 2. A deep undercover agent for the Revolutionaries.
And I have a theory that relates to Vegapunk being in the Revolutionaries. Vegapunk is making it seem like the Kumafistas are being made for the marines but are being secretly made for the revolutionaries. He might have a program made up that reactivates them as the Revoltuionaries Kumafistas.

When we finally see Vegapunk I doubt he'll be the one doing the fighting if there is any at all. He seems more brains than brawn.
