ive seen some posts saying that they are suprised at how big kuma is, and dont remember him being so big, and some people saying you dont really know because of perspective. well, i looked back and found this that proves that kuma has always been huge and shows just how big he is.

Shichibukai Discussion Thread
-
-
wasnt this discussed in another thread?
if we go by that picture, Doflamingo and the rest is about 1.5 times as big as a normal human as Kuma is twice as tall as them. At the same time he is the same height as Moria which is ~3 times the lenght of absolom, perona, hogback and the rest of em.
-
i remember when the SHs got to jaya they looked really small compared to bellamy, sarquiss, and the BBs. i think theyre just shrimpy…
But im curious about the characters like moria, kuma, and whitebeard. they seem way too big to be human. but theyre signifigantly smaller than giants like saul and broggy and dorry. and moria has those horns, is there another race we dont know about?
-
Oda just gave Morai those horns for character design. Apparently he is supposed to have a devil like look.
-
so morias horns are some hogback surgiacal implants? ill buy that (also strange that he has big stiches on his neck and face…) but what about odz? hes even larger than the biggest giants weve seen so far.and he has horns. im hoping (but doubting) for an odz backstory. id love to see what he looked like before his whole face rotted off...
-
I don't think there is a big story about odz horns… he is just an big strong and evil Monster. We also didn't have an story about sanji eyebrow or Usopps/Kakus nose... but thats off topic.
Well, you're right we could saw his size before... but I think there was just a thread like that... -
The real question is "is his power related to the speed that surprised Nami?"
She seemed surprised, but it could just be soru or something else or he could just be really fast. Which might surprise her due to his size…

Isn't Soru a secret technique known only to high-level fighters in the Marines and World government?
And Luffy? (somewhat)

depends. Kuro was obviously able to come up with something similar (presumably without any connections to anyone knowing soru.
so why shouldnt a shichibukai be able to come up with something like that? all it is is a high speed technique after all.
-
That's also pausible, the world government teaching their only trustworthy Schichibukai about the secret of Soru, yet I think that even Nami would recognize such a move as Soru, so maybe Kuma's move was just instant teletransportation. Well, I think that there's also the chance that only Luffy would be able to tell the difference between Soru and Kuma's move if there's even one so getting the answer would be just a thing of luck and time…
Anyways, this brings back memories of Monster Rancher. One of the main characters, Suezo, relied either on his sight or mind at the moment of teleporting; the same goes for many other fictional characters, yet I think that in Kuma's case the criteria of the mental image couldn't be as strict. I mean, for all that we know, if someone like Zoro had in mind some place where he could get sake, then perhaps Kuma's powers would just randomly teleport him to some random bar despite the lack of any decent description of the place, so perhaps Perona either got sent back to her room or ended in some random abandoned mansion if such place barely fitted with her description.
-
Did Nami see any Soru during EL? Is she even strong enough to see soru?

Because Coby is obviously SOOOO high ranking =P

@Sogeking:
Too bad he didn't use soru.
…....but he did, silly boy.

I do believe I just got served. Cheerio.
-
Actually, we know that Usopp inherited his nose from his mother :P
I guess Kuma's large because that makes him look more like a bear….he isn't 1/4 giant or anything :)
-
One of the things that I always try to pay attention to in OP are characters' relative heights, simply because there are many that I like to know as much about as possible. I've spent quite a while trying to gauge peoples' heights, but one of the main problems with trying to do this is that there are very few occasions where characters are just standing up straight and in a line. Example being, I never realized how freaking tall Cabaji was until a few months ago.
Another problem is perspective, which goes along with the "They won't get in a straight line" aspect. Simply put, most of the time it's more likely that someone will be behind or diagonal from or in front of someone else. You get different size effects depending on where the "camera" is, you could say.
Because of this, I've more or less decided that it's probably best to wait until there is a height-indicative Settei Pre. Of course, this isn't always possible or plausible. I'm still waiting on my Water 7 non-flashback height chart, but that's not looking too likely. I acknowledge that this might differ to some degree from the manga, but I'd say they probably do their best to keep relative sizes the same or damn close.
I would expect to see one including Kuma when we get to this point of the anime, if he happens to stick around for a while.
-
It seems that Oda gives that "half giant" size to every extremly strong / evil character, maybe it's meant to be emblematic. I, for one, construe it as that.
-
it`s because luffys attacks have so more space to hit the opponent…important for his rubber-technique...:wassat:
-
does that account for the franky destroyers in any way mantisk?
and are we sure WB is evil by OP standards?
He does seem to care alot for his crewmembers. wouldnt that define him as good?
-
i don't think so!
-
does that account for the franky destroyers in any way mantisk?
Yes it does. In the Franky Family, the three destroyers sure were the strongest, expect Franky himself. By all means, the three destroyers were responsible for the "hard stuff", i.e. was it their assignment to fight against Oimo and Karsee. Sure, compared to Luffy and the gang, the destroyers are pretty weak, but let's face it, the whole Franky Family sucked.
Of course expect the fat guy with the bathing cap, that guy rocked.and are we sure WB is evil by OP standards?
He does seem to care alot for his crewmembers. wouldnt that define him as good?
Since chapter 434, Whitebeard seems totally fanatical. That he cares for his crew members doesn't equiponderate the fact he's … well, an evil pirate. Maybe it's just me, or because of the HOW it was told in chapter 434, but Whitebeard seemed rather evil and frenetic.
Needless to say, the fact he wants to avenge a fallen nakama no matter what cost sure is honorable. -
Although Oda has paid some crazy attention to race detail at times (Wotan anyone?) don't you think it's possible that some people are just freakin' huge? They just look more imposing that way. Remember how ENORMOUS Lucci was when he first transformed?

Arlong cared about his crew members too.
-
yes, but he was deceptive and backstabbing too as he never intended to free nami.
we havent seen any real evil traits in WB so we cant define him as evil by OP standards yet.
same way we cant define Shanks as evil yet.
(ofc if you think shanks is evil then WB is probably evil as well) -

i remember when they first got to the grand line, someone explained how all the islands have vastly different civilations because of the way theyre isolated. maybe on some islands people just grow larger. like that long-long island they landed on after skypiea…

Smartest thing I've ever seen on this entire website.

I remembr being shocked at his size too. Then I remembered back to the meeting on that naval base. He did seem quite huge then too.
-
@Kitsune::

Took the words out of my mouth.
You are a smart man. -
-
…......really now?
Probably not, but it is the smartest thing I've heard this week XD
-
Well, as far as the notion that different islands on the Grand Line (or even Blues) have people that come in different sizes, that's supported by the fact that Oda tends to draw characters that fall into a handful of different size categories:
5-6 feet tall for normal people.
8-12 feet for large people.
14-20 feet for very large people.
30-50 feet for certain varieties of giants.
80-100 feet for Erbafian giants.Height can be somewhat inconsistent though; Saul is a good example of this as his height seems to change fairly often relative to other characters (which might have been a perspective issue more than anything else), but he's usually around the same height as Big Bun. Probably the most egregious instance where somebody's height changed was the Tilestone incident back in Water 7 when there was a panel that he appeared to be around the same size as Whitebeard or almost twice his normal height.
-
@Kitsune::
Except for Brook. Skeleton+Afro+Suit=Win!
More on topic, I would incredibly enjoy TB crashing into the next island…...I guess that's not too on topic..........So don't all flame me at once, but I really don't think we'll see Jinbei on the next island.
I would acutally find that a relatively good beginning for the next arc. We will have three shichibukia on one island then.
-

Actually, I think Kuma is already gone actually. Remember, he said he DIDN'T accept the mission to help Moria, but if TB crashes into Gyojin Island, then Jinbei will be the one to accept.
The one thing killing my theory is that, isn't Gyojin Island Underwater?Unless…..it's at the bottom of a GIANT WATTERFALL/WATER SLIDE!!!!!
Think about it, TB goes inside the Red Line, down that water thing and crashes into Gyojin Island! That would be pretty freaking epic.
Straw Hats see the "waterfall"
Nami: "So that's what Kokoro meant by "You'll find out when you get there!"
Luffy: "So it's a Mystery Waterfall!!!!!!" -
@$abZ:
I think Jimbei will take Oda's ability to the next level. That is if Oda sees Jimbei the way I hope to.
I agree, Its been a long time since we saw a real cool Fishman like Arlong.
-

Jinbei isn't going to be cool like Arlong. He is going to be a midget fishman. Midgets are cool in their own ways.
-

Considering that Whale Sharks are one of the world's largest Mammals, I seriously doubt that.
-
My only hope for Jinbei is, that he would be drunk. That would be awesome.
-
@AD-HD:

We already have a constantly sloshed Shichi (Blackbeard) and a constantly sloshed Yonkou (Shanks). We don't need another. XD
Jimbei will probably be a huge Gyojin, probably a Wotan.
As for the last guy, I'm still fairly sure it's the guy that was "in charge" on Roger's ship; the guy we see thwacking Buggy and Shanks.
-
why would he be a shichibukai when shanks became an emperor though? =S
that should kill anyones ambition seeing a small brat surpass him like that.
(considering yonkou to be bettter then shichibukai only because yonkou are more "free". im not considering any potential strenght.) -

Sure we do. There can't be enough drunk guys in One Piece. XD
And I want to see somebody fighting while they're drunk. That somebody could be Jinbei. -
Isn't it time we see a shichibukai that actually has a good heart? (unless you count Mihawk as having one… which i would disagree)
-

No way. I like that they all are heartless bastards. Just like real pirates were. Oh, and drunks. Definetely drunks.
-

Well, in general, most pirates (Even privateers) weren't exactly guys that gave you a hug. Even Bartholomew Roberts, who drank tea and read the bible daily, was a pretty vicious person.
Then again, this is the Odaverse, but we already have a pirate with a good heart: Luffy.

I've always liked that the guy with the green helm and iron notch over his nose in that one colorspread w/ buggy and shanks was really cool. I know its been said before… but he would definitely be a downright awesome Shichibukai.

Oh, I know exactly who you mean and I totally agree!

It seems like the balanced has tipped into the Shichibukai's favor now that Blackbeard has joined? Anyone get this feeling from what Kuma has said?
