Well, OP is the only anime i actually watch over and over and over again. With my craze over OP, i finally came to the question… How far will Oda go with one-piece? I mean by the looks of it, I think we still have like 400 episodes to go and like 5 more crewmembers… Now, im not complaining, I'm actually very happy he has taken it this far.
What do you guys think?
400 episodes? Probably. 5 more crew members? Naw, a shipwright and (possibly, since its a running gag) a musician. That's it. . . Maybe. You never know with Oda.
Volumes. . . I'd say at least 60-70.
Besides that, It's not going to end anytime time soon,
I wonder why people always ask these kinds of qustion? One Piece is far from over and there is many plot threads not yet resolved.. I hope Oda does 635 more chapters.

Because it's unusual for a shounen manga to go over 400 chapters. I know there are some (that aren't popular in the West) that do, but look at the duration of Rumiko Takahashi's manga, Kenshin, YYH etc.
I think people are worried that Oda's going to get lazy and end OP stupidly. Toriyama's done it, Rumiko Takahashi's done it, and apparently the mangaka for HikaGo did it. I don't personally think he will, but you never know. :unsure:
well in allhonesty Toriyama didnt want to do it but he got forced into finishing DBZ… he wanted to end it right at the saiyan sagas conclusion but he ended up getting forced into like another 200 episodes so we got not only a crapppy dbz like during the cell saga but we also ended up with a crappy not done by toriyama gt
Oda doesn't want OP to be his greatest work. He's said this before. He has other things planned. It entirely depends on the genre he decides to go with, but if he does do another shonen action adventure piece, then OP can only go so long. Making a story like OP alone is sure to shorten your life. Going beyond that is something even more terrifying. Granted just because he wants a work to be the 'best' doesn't mean it has to be 'long' but it does take a level of dedication that frankly would scare the hell out of me.
That said, OP is over the hill but exactly how far is anyone's guess.

I wonder why Oda does not want OP to be his greatest work? Does he hate OP? Why does he put too much effort in OP if he wanted to do other things? If he does not want it to be his best work then he can forget making more chapters and do what he wanted to do. I wish Manga writers be honest with themselves if they wanted to create and if they don't want to do that then they should NOT do it.
Because he has ambition? You think one can make 365 chapters without liking it? He's just really ambitious, and he definitely wants to do more after One Piece. He just doesn't want his career to end after he finishes One Piece. He doesn't want people to say "Oh, that's the mangaka who wrote OP, but his later works suck, though."
Let's see. He's still young and I guess another 300 chapters of One Piece will not be impossible. Looking at the way the plot is going, One Piece still has a lot of loose ends. Unlike DBZ that suffers from stretched, shallow storyline, One Piece actually shows deeper plot development lately. A shounen series with 37 volumes or more is not that rare, as far as I know.
Maybe after, say, sixty volumes of One Piece, Oda will take a sabbatical year and plan another manga. By then, he'll still be under forty.
OP is important because it creates a place for Oda in the market, and it allows Oda a freedom to create more diverse manga after it ends. Shortly, it establishes Oda's reputation. Of course he's gonna do his best, but I'm also sure that he has other plotbunnies in his mind.
Some manga-ka are around for more than forty years, why couldn't he? =)
The thing that seems really frustrating though is that while there are various unreslved plot threads, some of which have been around since the very near begining of the manga, how much does Oda actually deal with them at this point? When was the last time we heard anything about Dragon, or Whitebeard, and probbaly some other important dangly things I just can't think of at the moment. It just seems to go from one battle arc to the next. I think the only thing he consistantly is dealing with is the plotline involving the ancient weapons.
I guess when all of these factors start coming into play again, we'll know the mangais probably coming to an end. Maybe the real question is, how far does Toei plan to take this?
Oda's not very old at all, he's only like 30, right?
I think I remember Oda saying that One Piece was going to end at Volume 70-but I could be wrong….(hopefully I am :D )

Didn't Luffy say at the beginning of the manga that he was only going to have 10 crew members?????
Anyway whatever Oda is planning after One Piece I'm sure it will be just as good (if not better) than One Piece-so all we can really do is just wait and see wat happens next :)
Guys, Oda said that One Piece would be representory of his manga work. And that there were other things he wanted to do aside from manga.
Personally I think Odas going to go to the end.
Sure, Toriyama and Rumiko gave out. but…
Toriyama was always being pushed further.
And DB and Inu are very different from One Piece in story structure.
Oda also sees his work as play, as compared to Toriyama who talks about how hard and stressful it is.
As for the Anime, I guarentee it will not outlive the manga. They are just too close to the manga at this point. Within the same arc.
We might see ourselves another Kenshin.

Believe me, there´s no way that we won´t hear from Whitebeard and Dragon again. They are amonst the most important characters in the entire Saga. Just because they don´t appear lately it doesn´t mean Oda has forgotten them. These guys will appear in the final arc´s of One Piece. After all Whitebeard is the most powerful pirate in the world and Dragon wants Luffy to achieve his goal. So this mean when Luffy´s about to find One Piece, then we´ll see Dragon again.
And Whitebeard is going to be either the last or the second to last pirate opponent for Luffy.
If you ask yourself why Oda showed them that early if he intends to have those guys feature in the final arc´s the answer is simple. Whitebeard is the most powerful pirate in the world and everybody knows that. Just imagine we see the Strawhat´s beat one Shichibukai after the other, Supreme Admirals and what else there might come and then at the end Luffy would meet Whitebeard about nobody would have heard a word before. Somehow it would appear stupid that nobody knows about the most powerful pirate in the world. It´s actually a DBZ problem where we constantly meet the next strongest guy in the universe. It´s boring and repetative.
In One Piece we know who´s the strongest, but Luffy has yet to come to the point to be a challenge for him (as Zoro has to do for Mihawk).
And Dragon, well I don´t want to rewrite everythin again but he´ll be very important too. If you think about it you´ll realize that all of them Gold Roger, Nico Robin, Dragon, the True History and One Piece will be linked together somehow. Therefore there´s no chance Dragon won´t appear again, except if Oda never intends to have Luffy find One Piece. :P

Dragon's appearance in Logue Town changed the weather and helped Luffy escape. I can only assume that this year's Aqua Laguna is the same, although for what purpose I do not know...
Whitebeard is stated as "The Closest Person to One Piece", so why should the Mugiwara be seeing him anytime soon?
Well, if he ever does finish OP, I hope he does a manga relating to "Wanted" (western one)

Yep, he turned 30 on New Year's.
I think it may be about…..150 more chapters. But I dunno. There are so many things to uncover, and I wouldn't like it if he just tied every loose end up in a rush.

Lies! The ending was, at worst, a little awkward since we didn't get any wrap-up chapter at the end. Other than that I thought it was lovely.
I think his guess of being halfway through a while ago is probably fairly accurate… he may go a bit further but only because there's still a lot of characters to introduce then "conclude." Still, if Water Seven has the results I'm thinking of, we'll see a lot more of that in the arcs to come. So, I'm guessing maybe 50 chapters beyond what he himself predicted a while ago.

Yeah, I think Rumiko Takahashi is a great example of what Oda is yearning for. Although she's had COUNTLESS hits, each seems bigger than the last. And lest we forget God of Manga Tezuka Osamu who completed an absurd number of manga in his lifetime, each carefully crafted from start to finish. No one said Oda doesn't love OP. Just read his entry in Vol. 36 for some reassurance of that.

What has always interested me the most is how Oda said that he would like to learn a new style of drawing if he ever get a chance for it.
I hope he will do something different after One Piece, if ever get to that point. A few shorter series would be nice.
