I know it's really old, but I just recently picked up the first volume of the manga for Ranma 1/2, and I enjoyed it, it seemed pretty good.
Now I'm wondering for some opinions from people that may know it further on in the story. Does it stay interesting and entertaining? Is it worth getting more volumes? Is the anime good? How faithful to the manga is the anime?
Hope some of you can help me out with these questions, and feel free to discuss the show, too. Thanks!

Its a fun and hilarious series through about the first ten volumes of the manga (the next couple volumes have some real classics, including "Martial Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics" and "Martial Arts Figure Skating"…and the first Shampoo arc)...but unfortunately it starts getting repetitive and annoying after a certain point when you realize its never going to go anywhere and we get too many "Ranma and Akane" moments. I haven't read the series since the first Pantyhose-Taro arc.
I enjoyed the whole Manga, I think it's very good.
I didn't like the Anime, though, because it changed many arcs I liked in the Manga.
Well, thanks for your opinions, I'm going to get a few more volumes and see how I continue to like it.
One of my all time favorite mangas and the anime was what got me started into the anime scene.
Word of warning, if you pursue the anime, only pay for the first 3 seasons after that it's not really worth it.
It's not bad. But checking it out for martial arts is like reading swimsuit mags to whack off.

Loved it, I still have all the volumes. Awesome comedy series, especially when it gets more random in the second half.
You shouldn't expect a profound story, or any awesome fights. It's all about the comedy and it's intented that the plot doesn't make any sense, for most of the time.
Ranma starts strong, but like all Takehashi series, runs longer than it should and runs out of steam about 10 volumes in.
The first ten volumes/three seasons are about all you need. Ukyo in volume 9 is the last insteresting character to join the cast, and once Principal Kuno shows up its all downhill… and then... it runs for another THIRTY VOLUMES. A couple good stories here and there, but never as strong as the start. And while the series has a ending, its not really much of a PROPER ending...
Movie 2 is about the epitome of everything the franchise has to offer.
i hate that darn principal.
I like it. but ya, it's a lot of the same stuff over and over. kind of reminds me of north american cartoons. the same thing happens every week, and you could mix up the episodes, and you wouldn't really notice. I think it was season 5 or 6, the art style in the anime changes. that reminds me. i gotta finish watching it.

Movie 2 was cool in allowing character like Kuno and Mousse a chance to fight, but I always liked Movie 1 better…probably because the villains were crazy and it has one of the most brilliant epilogues ever:

I love this series…it was one of the first anime dvd I ever watched. I have read some o the manga, but they were hard to find back then. The dub was actually good, but I hated the voice of the grama (it was a long time since I watched it so I don't remember her name)
Wow, my old thread is back. Well, I have gotten the first 10 volumes of manga now, and love them all. Plan on getting more, but funds are tight lately, plus I'm hoping Viz might do a VizBig version to save money. And hopefully they don't edit anything.
I got the first four seasons of the anime, and S1-3 were all really good fun, but the annoying Hawaiian shirt wearing Principal totally blew season 4 and I haven't gotten around to finishing it. Is that the principal in the manga that most of you said was annoying?

Yeah, thats Principal Kuno. He's annoying, and pretty emblamatic of what comes post-volume 10. (There are many, many, MANY stories that involve Happosai stealing panties. MANY.) You may want to stop while you're ahead and still like the series. Skip ahead to the last 2 volumes, assume you missed a detail or two, and just run with it.
The Pantyhose Taro arcs were pretty decent, but hardly justify all the rest.
Yeah, I'd been hearing it drops in quality hugely. And the "end" isn't even a real end according to my friend. He says it just drops off without actually having any final confession of love or marriage or anything.
Principal Kuno really wasn't a problem to me. I think the series started going down the tubes with stuff like the Hiryu Shotenha training, where the stupid romance sub-plot starts (AKA: let's have Ranma and Akane in every single working it's way every time…and don't get me started on the "Nabiki is the fiancee" story) As great as the first Pantyhose Taro tale was, though, I stopped around then cause I couldn't read it anymore.

always liked to see that anime in tv..(sure funnier than most of the other stuff that runs on tv..)
but never was so much into this series ,that i wanted to see how it ends orso..just a funwatch for me..
manga..saw some chapters but never rly was that interested in reading them serious
The series is okay, but unless you want to see the end of the series as a whole, I suggest not getting too into the anime. It fails in completionary skills.

Hey just got to volume 21 and i love this series although I had heard there was a fight with ki but sadly it wasn't as well done as there physical fights….. although the just friends thing was hilarious.... so i was just wondering if the ki fighting is going to develop anymore or is that the last of it
I like Ranama but i hated the ending of the anime though it missed so much and i didn't care for ranama's dub voice until the 3rd season when Richard Cox came in and took over
