@Kujo:
Allow me to welcome you, then.
Based off personal experience, forum lurking is more commonplace than actually participating in the modern day. There was a time long ago that I'd actively participate in forums to a perhaps obsessive degree. You can invest a lot of yourself into them because, ultimately, most users do need to kill time and there's no real shame in that.
It's a way to socialize with like-minded individuals that share your interests and like all things, you'll likely grow out of it and move on when it has served a present-day purpose.
That's what happened to me. I've been through forums like wildfire, but the flames fizzle out inevitably. If I wanted to know something specific, I had Google, Wikipedia and a plethora of parroted sources to rely on. In the case of Google, you'd often be redirected to forum posts – Didn't matter what forum, as long as you got the information you needed. I never felt any burning urge to thank anyone for the information, or vent, or bicker due to a difference of personal opinion with a complete stranger who I'd visualize as whatever icon or signature they'd chosen to represent themselves with.
Despite the negative vibe running through here, I'm glad you emerged from the shadows. You're an interesting person.
Yeah, from my experiences the forums can become very active for a while with maybe 10-50ish people doing most of the "work" and then some of them leave and everything dies out. It's a shame, I like to casually hang around with people. Since I finished uni and started working I've had a lot less time to do this, though, and… it makes me nostalgic and kind of moody but still hopeful to try some new forum? I do tend to prefer somewhat smaller forums and longer discussions rather then short comments here and there but there seem to be as though those kind of things are going on here so we'll see.
I personally don't hunt down too much extra info on stuff (well, I follow Comicsalliance, swedish publishing companies and Anime News Network but that's like a part of the daily newspaper) but since OP is so... special... I love to see peoples theories about what will happen in the future, for example. I want more.
=)
And thank you. I'll do my best not to dissapoint.
