The title of this pretty much describes the premise. Basically the main character Vincent finds himself high above an island, not knowing where or what it is. Think of it like an Alice in Wonderland-type story. Started thinking about this after re-discovering Little Nemo. =x
I think this is the furthest I've gotten in an attempt at writing a story (coming up with concepts is easy. turning it into a story is where I stop at), but I don't know if I'll continue.
[hide]Chapter One
A young boy wakes up from a good night’s sleep, only to find himself floating in his bed high above the ground. At first he doesn’t notice it, but does after watching a flock of birds flying over him! After finding the courage to look off the edge of his bed he confirms that he really is floating, but is too high up to see the bottom.
“This has to be a dream, it has to!” he thought to himself. “Now how can I be sure…?” The boy thinks about it for a few seconds and pinches himself, only to realize it actually hurt! “Oh no, what am I gonna do?!”
Suddenly he saw another flock of birds, this time flying right towards him. He tries to shoo them away and fails, as they begin to knock the bed over! The boy falls towards the Earth in tears, thinking that he’s going to die (or is it even the Earth? beds don’t float on this planet, so maybe he’s on the moon, or even Mars. it definitely can’t be Pluto, of course). Falling falling falling, down to a planet we aren’t so sure what it is.
“HELP! HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME, PLEASE!” he yelled at the top of his lungs. From out of nowhere, a giant bird swooped down and yanked onto his pajama shirt. The boy looked up at the animal and said, “th-thank you! I really mean it, thank you!”
“Don’t mention it. Besides, I was watching you being picked on by that flock not too long ago. They think they own the sky up there.”
“Why‘s that?” the boy replied, not saying anything about the bird’s ability to talk.
“Well y’see, those birds live on the top of really big mountains. So anywhere up there, they see it as theirs. Really hate it when anyone tries to go up there, but they can’t do a thing about it unless they’re in big groups.” The bird pauses and sighs. “They aren’t really that bad, just don’t want anyone trying to take their real homes away. On the mountains I mean.”
“Oh… but then why did they knock me over? I wasn’t doing anything.”
“No idea, some of them like to do it for fun. Oh yeah, what’s your name anyway? If you threw it I didn’t catch it.” The bird chuckled at his own bad joke, to which the boy ignored.
“Vincent.” Looking down, he saw a large island surrounded by endless oceans. It was the only thing he could see, so he guessed that that’s where they were going to land. He saw the mountains the bird was talking about, but they looked more like two big columns with only enough room for small birds to live in.
“Fine name ya got there. I’d like to stay with you a bit longer, but I really have to go. Going to another island since it’s warming up over there. I’d bring you along, but…” he trailed off and the two landed. “Well I need to go, bye!”
“But why won’t you bring me with you?”
“It was nice meeting you,” he said as he flew off. Vincent watching him go, annoyed that he was ditched in an island he’s never heard of before. Or at least hasn’t heard its name yet, whichever works.[/hide]
