A good DVD maker/burner

I'm looking for a DVD making program(for separating files into separate sections, the usual) that can burn MKV files with multiple tracks.

See, I've got a series I want to put on a CD so I can let friends try out and see if they like the series, and just for general entertainment. Problem is that all of the files have 2 Audio tracks, and a subtitle track, which is already in the file and not a separate file by itself. Since the subtitles are set to off by default, and the Japanese setting is the default(over English) I'm worried that even if I did manage to get it onto a CD in a form a DVD player could read, I wouldn't be able to switch the tracks. Since Japanese with no subs is the default, I'm worried I might get stuck with that, which is the worst possible combination.

Any clue if what I'm looking for is out there?

you are going to play the DVD in a dvd-player that is not attached to a computer i presume? otherwise you wouldnt have this problem right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what he means. I've been wondering the same thing actually, since there's a series I want to burn to DVD with the subtitles, but I'm not sure how (since they are .mkv and I don't know if the program I have can even burn that file type - or if the subtitles will burn too).

I use TMPGenc DVD Author to make my DVDs. It's a really good program, though it doesn't have option to insert subtitles. But I read there is a way to add the subtitles even so. There is also DVD Lab, but I never could use it.

As for the burners… DVD Decrypt.

i would suggest trial and error. if i recall correctly you can change audio and subtitles on mkv files thats played in dvd player programs on computers.

why not burn one file as usuall and try it in the dvd player to see if you can change subtitles/audio? (since theres no infile menu on a mkv file i assume you will have to use a dvd remote to make it work properly)

although im just guessing wildly here i know nothing about dvd players as i dont own one (play all my dvds on my comp)

I can't try it because I only have CDs not DVDs right now and I don't know if they'll work.

Also, my Burner can do CDs but the DVD player would need the proper codecs. I tried my One Piece AVI files last year on my old player and all it displayed was a folder I couldn't open, because no button I pressed did anything. My current one is a DivX though so I'll test it out. If it works on my One Piece CDs it may work on MKV. Still, there's a good chance it'll work if a DVD burner burns it so it'll work properly.

EDIT: Hmm interesting. It does work on my new player.

Would you have to have a specific Codec on your DVD player to make it work in MKV? I really doubt the friend I want to give it to(have to tomorrow) has a really good DVD player. So I don't want to try and find out it needs a codec.

the codec thats developed by the company that developed the .mkv filetype is the cccp-project.net coedcpack (dont know of any other codec that is specifically designed to make mkv work)

Oh crap.

Yeah, I found out that MKV means it's Matroska, the very same KF uses for it's MP4s. The one I neglected in favor of just using VLC's internal codec pack.

Yeah, I'll just re-download it then. From there I can likely get at least one program to figure out how to convert or burn it.

EDIT: My luck? Not so good. I've found numerous programs that advertise as being able to convert MKV. However, they either add a big fat watermark or limit the file size on the trial/free versions. This just won't do.

So I found one that says it can put it into "DVD format" which is supposed to be MP2 but whatever, I figured it must work. But it couldn't even recognize the file, even though it's advertised. So it says Download Codec, and the link goes to their site. Guess what? No MKV Codec.

So I'm wondering, any of you know a FREE with no watermarks converter or something? Because I can burn it no problem, but my DVD player doesn't load it. It just doesn't get the file type. I need one that all DVD players can use. Any MKV to MP2 ones are preferable.

EDIT again: I got something called MediaCoder. Problem is it's pretty friggin' hard to work. The interface is horribly done. Anyone have a clue how to convert MKV to MP2 or even AVI using it? Preferably MP2.
