Yes I have looked through the FAQ!

Well I recently downloaded a large chunk of the Manga from Box Torrents and I've been slowly reading through it (I think I'm around 216?, or wherever Luffy beats Crocodile). I'm not much of a Manga reader, but I LOVE One Piece, and I hate being held back from the story with only K-F's subs and I hate all the little spoilers I seem to accidentally uncover here, there, and everywhere around the net. (not to mention I just want to see all the Anime-Manga differences)

So, I noticed in the block of Manga I got, I believe the Manga Screener stuff, was TERRIBLE. Tiny scans, with poor translations and grammar. It wasn't until the crew started getting into Alabasta where the scans got bigger and the translations became clearer. Then Null comes in, and while the scan size stayed the same, if not better, the translation went to hell (although propbably not QUITE as bad the early Manga Screener stuff). Mainly with inconsistencies ("Chaka" in one chapter, "Khaka" in another). One annoying thing is how a lot of the "Mini-arcs" go untranslated, save a few here and there. I'm mainly talking about Hatchi's Story, it would help just a little to know what's going on by having the "title" translated.

So for all those folks good and caught up, is this just a rough patch in the translation that gets better later on, or does it pretty much stay like this? Also might one offer titles/an explination for the little Hatchi sidestory?

Hmm, you could check gotlurk.net's raw HQ scanlations with Stephen's translations if you're past vol. 19 [he says the language in 10-19 is foul].

It might be really annoying, but I really don't have any other options. No one wants to translate the early vols when Null translates the later and Viz is keeping an eye on translators of whatever they already released.

There's a sticky thread by the way, you might want to check that too. Plenty of sites with OP.

Consequently the "better" Mangascreener releases in the Alabasta arc came from my translations, for a short period until it was licensed. So, if you liked that…

i used the raws and stephen's translations. a bit of a pain, but there just simply are no decent quality scans during alabaster - a shame, as it is my favorite arc.

I have a version of those scans on my computer that I started going through and "fixing", basically correcting names and making the grammar readable, for me and some of my friends. I did up to about chapter 200 like that, I could probably post it somewhere for people to download.

I'm also scanlating the older ones myself. I downloaded the RAWs and started at the beginning of volume 14 (where it really gets bad). I'll go until the end of Alabasta fixing picture and writing quality, then started over at the beginning where the problem is mainly just the quality of writing. But if someone was nice enough to allow others to download theirs then that would be awesome.

Alright. My laptop I've got the manga on is having problems getting on the internet at the moment, but when I get that fixed I'll let you know.

I'm sorry to bump this thread, but to anyone's whose interested, I posted a much cleaner version of Chapter 118 in the Translation/Scanlation thread. If you're interested in more just let me know.
