Surfs Up is win

So it came out on friday, and out of curiousity I decided to spend a few of my breaks watching this movie.

It's good. Scratch that, it's hilarious and the animation is gorgeous. It has a good story, pulls off emotion well, and actually, it made me want to try surfing.

I walked into it thinking it would be one of those lame 'double movies' that some times come up (Nemo/Shark's Tale, Madagascar/The Wild etc, with Happy Feet being the twin in this situation). And being about surfing penguins no less, it would try to hard to be cool and end up lame. Well, it seems those fears were for naught as this is probably the best movie to come out since Cars and Monster House.

I give it 4.8 stars~

It's 3D.

I was dragged to it. Personally I thought it was gonna suck. But the first 1/2 of it the theater(especially me, I laugh at just about everything) couldn't stop laughing.

The end seemed kinda rushed. But the animation WAS really beautiful.

If someone promises that there won't be any more penguin movies for at least 5 years, I'll give this one a chance. (I'll probably wait for DVD regardless though, too many other movies I need to check out right now)

Saw it voluntarily personally. The plot reminded me a bit of "Cars" and a few other movies, but it was so funny and took a different approach in regards to it (Big Z was a lot more interesting in assistance than Doc Hudson, the psudodocumentary that makes fun of the penguins as much as it has fun with them) that I didn't care about that slightness.

Oh, and we need more stoner chickens in movies. (though somehow I keep thinking his design reminds me of that one chicken Muppet)

Some of those designs are actually quite good, especially the largest penguin with decorations directly on his skin. Very nice touch.

Yes, but its also Dick Dale, one of the masters of surfing music. To have a surfing movie without his music…well, it wouldn't be a surfing movie.

I watched Ebert and Roper which gave it a great review. Needless to say, I was shocked. With all the crap of 3D movies I thought this was just another. I'll need to see it some day.

Anyways, working at the theater, I've seen clips of it. It looks lightyears better than Happyfeet. I plan to go see it in whole sometime this week.

Joe is a really common name. I have a cousin named Joe who my family calls an uncle because he's so much older than me.

Leia is a weird name. Last time I heard that name was in Star Wars. And Glen and Cody aren't exactly too common.

I went with my sister, she asked me to come along, so I did…. I actually thought it was quite good! Its a really fun movie, and yes it is pretty darn hilarious XD They certainly got away with a lot of humor there XD

I did see Happy Feet, it was cute, kinda funny... but the thing that killed it was the end where it got all political and crap.... I dunno, Surf's Up is just worlds better to me.

It does! It just… loses that cuteness that we saw in the previews. What I liked about Surf's Up is that it just kept that nice feel through out the movie, without resorting to pointless things like that

Also, they used live action in it, which was a cheap shot to me….. even the cuteness that is Elijah Wood couldn't save it

Even the awesome stereotypical Spanish accent speaking Robin Williams couldn't save that movie. My cousin wants to go see this film, so I'll probably go see it with him, the tattooed penguin looks pretty cool.

The funny thing is there is a slight KFC joke in the movie.

! Chicken Joe mentions that he never knew his father..and they have a cutaway shot showing that he was turned into an 8-piece combo at a KFC-like place.

I just saw the movie yesterday…I really enjoyed it! I'm glad some people piped up and said it was worth seeing, otherwise I would have completely ignored it. I've been so sick of crappy 3D animated movies popping up left and right. I like how the whole thing was filmed like it was a camera crew creating an autobiographical film.

It did have sort of the same story idea as cars, but it still felt different, because, well, ones about cars and this one is about surfing penguins. XD Actually the whole theme of both films are very common.

Well, about the only thing I loved about Happy Feet were him and those other 'ghetto Mexican' penguins, they were hilarious!
