I would say yes, but I'm a little biased since I'm a tankobon fan (rather than a SJ fan). I personally like tanokobon because I like original stuff, I like the art better (clearer), and I like the extra stuff like cover flap comments and SBS, in the case of OP. They can get expensive tho especially when the series is long like OP is turning out to be, so in the end it comes down to whether you prefer owning the tankobon or not
Hope that helped some.

…...You can also read Japanese.:P
I'll also say yes, though. For the same reasons she mentioned. I dunno, they're just really cool to collect. And there's an abundant amount; I'll be Franky's age when volume 37 comes out in English. Don't pay too much for them, though.
-
I'd say yes as well. Although 37 is quite a few to buy, I always have a few original tanks of series I really like. Even if you don't know Japanese they are neat to own, plus you can just use stephen's awesome scripts to read it.

It's really not a mater of life and death but if you have some extra cash then go for it.

perfectly said. you have extra money then go for it.

It's worth to buy tanks but you have to learn Japanese. If the tanks are subtitled to english, I'll buy it. The Viz stiil has orginal stuff in it anyway but you want what is plucked derictly out of Japan, that'll be fine.
-
I actually get mine for cheaper then english manga…. So.....
-
That's how it should be, seeing as how they're not translated and kinda small (14 fit in one hand!).

Well, Viz doesn't have the dust jacket cover or the Usopp Gallery.

**I bought them in Japan too so I feel special!!

thx i think im going to buy them since i have stephens scripts, im not purcahing all 37. just 25 -37, but im waiting for sasuga to get 37
-
It's pretty cool having them on your shelf. I'm going to get them all eventually.
-
Whenever I buy tanks I go to the lovely Sasuga Books, where I can get them for 6-7 dollars. Much better than getting the slightly cheesier english versions.
Am I the only one who likes the paper they use in the tanks better too? I dunno, I just feel like the thinner paper gives it an aesthetic quality or something.

Tanks > Viz ones
- cheaper (buy in bulk)
- Dust jacket extras and color Oda comments picture
- Stephens scripts > Viz scripts
- Usopps Pirate Gallery (BIG LOSS THERE VIZ)
- Covers are better
- 6 < 37
- Viz= 3 a year/ Tanks= 4-5 a year
- Just….nicer to hold in the hand
- no advertisements for other series (excluding the back flap
Buy them.

- Stephens scripts > Viz scriptsI'm pretty sure that you can read Viz version with Stephen's scripts too :P.
Am the only one who doesn't like cheap tanks ? I would be more than willingly to pay a few spare yen for bigger size, better paper and colors but I guess they are making me to buy the series twise once it's republished in collector's edition. Man, I wonder if the price is what it is just because it's more fitting for kids' weekly pocket money and to increase the sale numbers.
-
I actually prefer smaller volumes, even Tong Le small. I guess I just like to have cute books.
-
Usopp's Pirate Gallery is a fanart section. A very cool fanart section.
Both Vol.5 and 6 had one, and viz cut them out.I actually think the tanks are better made then Viz's, you can bend them alot, and well….anyone who knows viz gns knows the glue aint that durable. And the more recent ones have much better paper quality.
-
Yeah, after a few reads, the GN's covers kinda get bent.

I like the paper too ^_^
-
I too, am considering buying the tanks. The question I have is how big are they compared to the U.S. GNs? The length and width, I mean.
-
The GNs are as big as this picture (in its true size), while tanks are as big as it in its condensed size.
-
I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by condensed size. Does that mean the tanks are smaller, bigger or the same size as the U.S. GNs?
-
Oops, forgot my comp settings might be different. ^^;;
These are exact size (make sure the picture isn't scaled), with GN on the left and tank on the right. It's noticeably smaller, but the art is sharper and the paper feels….better.
-
so the samller 1 is the tank right?
-
Yeah, the tankobon are roughly 11.4cm x 27.7cm x 1.4 cm …. Measured one I have lol ^_^;;
I don't know if you can hold 14 with one hand, but they are smaller ^_~

**Ahh, thank you. I really only want the tanks for the art. If the art is sharper than the U.S. GNs, then that's great.
