Of all the manga that have crossed my way up until now I found this one to be especially exceptional.

It´s about a young looking, silent (he has about 3 lines in the entire series) loner named "Killy" carrying an extremely powerful weapon, who wanders through a gigantic complex known as the "City" searching for "Net Terminal Genes".

What I found so intriguing about this cyberpunkesque story is the incredibly intense atmosphere with its strong dystopic theme. Alot of panels are spent on displaying the vast technological world, the architecture of the City and, of course, its mostly inhuman inhabitants.

There is little to none dialogue and no explanations are given which in fact makes the plot seem secondary to the mere images.
Blame! could almost be seen as the complete opposite of a novel as you don´t have to picture the story but rather figure out the story behind the pictures.

So in the end you will be left wondering what the hell this was about with some of the images burnt into your memory. At least that´s how I felt, anyway.

And finally here are some examples of its brilliant art:

(great preview without giving away any spoilers)

well, there is still only one chapter and he started and finished a lot of one shots since then. so i don't really know…

anyway, blame is one of the greatest and strangest things ever created. i love it. killy FTW.

              i highly recommend SNIKT!

This sounds pretty neat. How long is it/has it ended/has it been licensed/scanlated/etc.

I read this series awhile back and it's a great manga, fantastic and unique art style, surreal, and well planed. In short, I love Blame.

It has ended, 10 volumes long and it is scanlated and licensed.

i love blame! i've mentioned it in a few threads here but nobody has really responded to it, i'm glad to see i'm not the only one that loves the series 😄

NSE i'm pretty sure is finished. doubt he'll be making any more.

Biomega is another of his series (prequel to blame, kinda) and it went on hiatus for a while but he's been working on it again. artwork is similar to blame but different in a way, i think he's just gotten better overall in the meantime. edit (my sig is from biomega, main character Kanoe Zouichi being a BAMF with his pre-GBE weapon)

                      …...............

Seriously? But it explains it. I read that one particular chapter two or three years ago and then I never heard about again. Biomega was pretty cool also –- I actually liked it more than Blame!. I read the first volume pretty long time ago too so... do you know if there's more it, or has Nihei become totally absent?

The guy has mastered emo art style. Especially backgrounds are great.

Edit: Bowlton was too fast for me. :ninja:

there is abara (2 vols), you have to read noise also, blame's prequel, (but i suppose you already did) and there is a third one but i can't remember the name. biomega is 10 chapters long, i don't know if it fits one or 2 volumes. there is always snikt, which is a comic about wolverine, and something called death eater if i remember right. but it didn't get the hype and got stopped very quickly if what i've read somewhere is right. project omanga seems to scanlate everything from nihei, so check out their website.

But my "to read" list would be pretty long even without those! 👅

I actually don't remember whether I have ever read Noise, but Abara has been something I will definitely check out at some point. I recall Nihei has done something which is releated to Halo too…

If there was a cartoon based on this and it would have a j-pop song as an opening and they would add some occasional panty shots and some pop culture references, I'm sure more people would care about Blame!.

you should also check the 6x5-min-anime they did to introduce the movie which was never done.

Overall, I found the anime clips to be way too colorful and the music a little inappropriate at times. It doesn´t convey the depressing darkness which the manga managed to do.

I think one of the most impressive things about the manga is this feeling of absolute silence it gives you while reading it. Of course the characters do communicate sometimes or fight yet it seems as if this machine world was strangely devoid of sound.

Also, the fact of the protagonists being either machines or other artificial forms of life leaves you without any characters to identify with or relate to as most of them seem to have no feelings to begin with.
This is generating a silencing atmosphere of foreignness or even emotional hollowness for the reader. And that is what makes Blame! so awesome. At least for me, that is.

huh, volume 2 is finished. it's the scanlation which is not.

you should also check the 6x5-min-anime they did to introduce the movie which was never done.

i know, evil_genius aren't exactly the fastest group to make releases. i only mentioned it because it sounded like most people thought there was only the first volume of biomega and that was it. volume 2 may not be 100% scanlated yet but its still badass so far.

i wasn't impressed with the anime bits either. too random, i'd rather see a series or OVA made, but i doubt that will ever happen.

                                              …...............

Too bad they won´t make a movie.

After all, I think the series really has the potential to make for an amazing sci-fi/horror trip on the big screen.

Get Tokyopop's Blame books (any of them), and check the credits list :3

Awww, I can't get my hands on those. Lemme guess… does this have something to do with the word "translator"?

Those clips weren't bad at all.
