Of all the manga that have crossed my way up until now I found this one to be especially exceptional.
It´s about a young looking, silent (he has about 3 lines in the entire series) loner named "Killy" carrying an extremely powerful weapon, who wanders through a gigantic complex known as the "City" searching for "Net Terminal Genes".
What I found so intriguing about this cyberpunkesque story is the incredibly intense atmosphere with its strong dystopic theme. Alot of panels are spent on displaying the vast technological world, the architecture of the City and, of course, its mostly inhuman inhabitants.
There is little to none dialogue and no explanations are given which in fact makes the plot seem secondary to the mere images.
Blame! could almost be seen as the complete opposite of a novel as you don´t have to picture the story but rather figure out the story behind the pictures.
So in the end you will be left wondering what the hell this was about with some of the images burnt into your memory. At least that´s how I felt, anyway.
And finally here are some examples of its brilliant art:
(great preview without giving away any spoilers)
