because I am buying FF VIII and wonder that if a memorty card for this game will work on Ps2

You have to buy a PS1 memory card that can be formatted on the PS2. Most retailers carry those, whether it's made by sony or another generic brand.

Yes. I still have a bunch of PS1 games that I play. It can read PS1 memory cards.

At least with FF VII you need a PS1 memory card. Who knows why but you can't use a PS2 memory card for saving your progress. My educated guess would be that it's the same with VIII. Besides I recall those two memory cards have totally different architecture. If you don't already have a PS1 memory card and you are uncertain - and as memory cards are a bit costly - just buy the game first and if saving doesn't work with the PS2 memory card, then go out and buy the PS1 one.
