Heh, not in Warhammer. Wood Elves of Warhammer yes, but only so they can feed people to the trees they grow.
To quote Paul (creative producer of WAR): High Elves are British posh people. (educated and very upper class). Dark Elves are British posh people on drugs (i.e. Lord Byron).
"Dark Elves have one major source of income: plunder. Dark Elves raid all other lands, particularly Ulthuan, home of their enemies the High Elves. They take food, treasure, and slaves. Slaves play an important part in Druchii society, as they perform the menial chores that an enterprising Druchii deigns to be below him. Slaves also make up the bulk of the ritual sacrifices to the god Khaine."
^Sounds pretty diabolically kick ass for a baddie race to me. Nope. Dark Elves are cool. Nuff said.

Not really one to say "OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR POSTING A LINK."
You'll be fine.
Elves use Magic. Magic>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Melee IMO. So Elves>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other races IMO
Everybody in Warhammer is famous for magic; Elves are just "the most adept" at using it, since they're alive the longest. Nevertheless, the Greenskins' Waaaaaagh!!! is just as powerful as any Elf magic, and the same goes for The Empire, Chaos, etc.
Moreover, not all Elves are "the best at magic." That'd be like saying every Goblin is adept at using Waaaaaaagh!!! to its full potential.

THANKS 4 DA LINKZ!!!!!!

Mr Prince if you didnt understand it by Talerans post he and I were very general in our depiction of who is the most famous for useing magic. Mostly because we do not belive it aplies to the world of warhammer due to every race useing magic.
Thus i was very general in my description of elves. -

Too bad that most of the clip was Black Orcs being the subject of some mass genocide. They deserve better.

Some of the mounts were shown in the latest newsletter. Be sure to look at the awesome Dwarf mount:

Wow, I'm loving the battle boars
and that dwarf car is amazing
Almost as great as that robo-bird in WoW

Am I the only one who thinks it would be awesome to ride a giant pig into combat as a black orc with a ridiculously huge battle axe?
Sort of on topic: Any suggestions on what variety of laptop supports games like this best (if any)?
-
For those who don't know, W.A.R. got pushed back to Q2 2008. The biggest reasons seem to be a major effort to enhance World RVR, as the way they had it set up left no reason to play World RVR over Instanced RVR, since Instanced RVR was worth more points for your faction.
@Mr.:

Replace that with a giant mace, then yeah, we're definitely on the same fucking page. Am planning on playing as a Black Orc, personally.

Uh, that's kind of vague.
Firstly, we don't know the specs for this game; Paul hinted that an average PC should be able to run the game at default settings, though. Secondly, there's a lot of factors that affect gaming performance: processor, video card, RAM, etc.
-
I'm pretty computer challenged as a general rule, and I thought that perhaps the specs had been released, as I didn't know it'd been pushed back.
Black orcs and dark elves both pique my interest. Moreso the former than the latter.

S'fine. It'd just be better to ask that question near the game's release, as what is an acceptable gaming CPU right now will chance by the time X-Mas comes around, and even more so when Q2 2008 hits.
@Mr.:

Black Orc is a class in the Greenskin faction, while Dark Elves are an actual race. Just to clear that up.
You can check it all out on the main W.A.R. website.
-
Whoa. This is why I always feel bad for humans in games like this and WoW. I mean other races get to ride around on battle boars or steam powered chariots, and they get a plain old horse. Not even a dead, or mutant one.
-
Well, to make up for it, Empire still has some neat classes.
That, and humans aren't GENERIC, AVERAGE RACE in this game. They're oppressed and near extinction, radical, and gritty sons of bitches.
-
Wow
It's quite awesome thinking of the little goblin riding the giant wolf
I miss playing in the beta ~_~
-
Oh, d'you get in the beta? How'd you enjoy it?
-
Hahahaha. Apparently, the Dwarf Mount is powered by ale, which makes it even better.

http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/video/
Two new videos, one about the Dark Elf Sorcerer, while the other is about the Inevitable City location.
Dark Elf Sorcerer have a neat mechanic that Paul compares to Russian Roulette. Basically, Dark Elf magic is extremely powerful, but each time you cast a spell [without giving your chaos energy time to drain away], the chance of your fucking face exploding off your head increases. For example, if you cast one spell, then chance that you'll explode on the next casted spell is 10%, then 20%, then 30%, etc. Those aren't the actual numbers [since there aren't any yet], but that's how it works. Paul says something along the lines of: "So, as a Sorcerer, you have to decide whether it's wise to pull back and let your chaos energy drain, or if you should take a chance and throw in just one more spell to help sway the battle." Despite not liking Elves, this class actually sounds extremely fun.
Inevitable City looks really neat, especially with all the floating eyeball robot things everywhere.

Bunch'a new Warhammer videos.
I'm really liking the Zealot's animations, and holy fuck, Orcs look so pimp in action.
-
urgh, I swore off of MMOs back in the summer when WoW took over my life. But WAR is looking better and better every time something is updated.
DAMN YOU MYTHIC, DAMN YOU
-
Just so people know, the game is still in beta, so this is just a glimpse of how amazing the graphics are going to be.
Moreover, a lot of the animations repeat themselves because they're just placeholders used during testing.
But oh man, I love that you get EP [EXP] just from finding things. It really puts the "experience" back into experience points, as I get them just from exploring the world around me and finding stuff to interact with. "Oh look, a slain Dwarf commander is bent over this tree! Looks like he was trying to slay the local dragon that everybody is clamoring about. EXP for me! … Wait, I get to take his gear too? NICE."
-
All I'm hoping from this game is better end game.
Sitting in Karazhan, Gruul's and Mag-T's lair every day wasn't my idea of fun. Especially when you have a raid leader who thinks he's the president of the United States or something.
-
The major "end game" of Warhammer is attacking the opposing faction's capital city. Josh hinted that this is done once every 2-4 months, as it'll take about that long for a specific faction to win the prior tiers of RVR and advance to that point. Once you ransack the city, options open up for you to obtain the "best gear" and shit, even though gear only makes up about 30%-40% of your stats. It takes about that long to level a character from Rank 1 to Rank 40, so it's done this way so that there will always be a bunch of fresh Rank 40's ready and willing to lay waste to those smelly bastards that're causin' so much trouble.
Capital city battles are a gigantic mix of PVE and PVP: you'll be fighting the other faction's players, obviously, but certain PVE events open themselves up too. Paul was talking about how one of the planned events for attacking the Empire city is that you'll stumble upon a giant church of holed up Priests and other holy bitches who are totally pissed about what you're doing. So, it's like a PVE raid, except with a giant PUG. In other words, it's a Public Quest [as the term is used in [I]Warhammer Online].
There will be end game instances for the PVE fans, but nothing on the scale of WoW. Most of this game's "instances" are Public Quests that anybody can just walk in on and participate in.

!
I just ejaculated everywhere.

For anyone interested, I got into beta.
So far it's more or less WoW, but with a lot more to do while leveling up.
So far I'm enjoying Shaman and Marauder the most, and I haven't touched Order at all.
-
Cool Have you tried a Magnus yet? I'm intrested in his mirror. Or how about a herder?
-
Magus have bugged pets, or so I hear.
Squig Herder doesn't really appeal to me (hate the pet classes) so I haven't really touched them.
I think I'll either be playing Zealot or Shaman come release.
Let me tell you, I've only played up to level 7 (tier 1) and there's so much shit to do. Tier 1 alone could take you a day or two to play though, unlike in WoW where they put little to no effort in leveling.
Public Quests are pretty fun, and they reward healing. And SCENARIOS beat WoWs Battlegrounds by far. I can't imagine the Tier 4 scenarios, because Tier 1 Scenarios are awesome already.
-
Cool. I've heard good things about the scenarios. I never been one for PVP, but I think I may try to get into it now.
-
So far, so good, it looks like. I'm definitely interested in the Shadowcaster, Squigherder, and Witchhunter classes right now. I'm just hoping the PvP isn't as broken as it is in Age of Conan. I've gotten more and more used to PvP, but Age of Conan is ridiculous on the PvP servers. You can't even walk two steps in the PvP zones without someone 40 levels higher than you whacking you in the head… totally without structure, totally without any sense.
I'm definitely reserving a copy. Mass city raids for Endgame sounds good enough for me.
-
OMG whos having problems with the running it and install
-
Huge Bump
This has turned out to be a spectacular MMO. From the RvR, to the graphics, to the public quests, everything is well thought out and well designed. Plus, unlike some MMO makers coughsquareenixcough, their customer support is usually very timely in fixing bugs, looting issues, or anything else. Players can no longer steal loot they can't use in RvR, which is GREAT. Also, RMT elimination efforts are top notch; they've gotten rid of most of the PMs and Mail from the RMT. The abilities of each class are balanced, making any class have potential to be extremely potent in combat.
My current favorite class? My Shadow Warrior. It's only 27 right now, but the XP required to level increases by quite a bit after 20. That's fine by me, because there's enough content that I won't get bored while leveling. Between public quests, 3 different RvR zones (6 for Tier 3, which I'm on, and I believe 9 for Tier 4), and regular questing, there's a lot to do, so one can never get bored. It's a very well-rounded game.
My favorite Destro class right now? Probably Sorceror. I like their mechanic, and they can do some wicked damage at higher levels. But the real job I'm looking forward to for Destro is Black Guard, which is to be released in December.
Anyone else enjoying this?

This post is deleted!

My engineer is still only rank 10 (this close to 11), but I'm an altaholic and a slow leveler. Plus I rerolled him on a busier server. I'm surprized how much I'm enjoying RvR. I never brothered with it before, but I been joining scenarios and I hope to get in keep soon.
Right now I'm waiting for the buff I'm supose to get in 1.1 and to find out what the new melee class is going to be. Here hoping Slayer.
Iroincly I joined up with my AoC guild, which was the best part of my month stay in that game.
