Just got back from the midnight showing. GREAT movie. I was surprised at the amount of new material (one reason some have criticized the film), but it's new, GOOD material, based on Adams' original ideas and script drafts. It was actually quite nice to be surprised at what happened rather than simply following along with the book's plot in my head. And the visuals were gorgeous. I could never really get into the TV series because the SFX just weren't up to par, but now with CGI and the Creature Shop, all the surreal places and beings could be realized.
Anyway, to sum up, uh, rave review. Anyone else seen it yet?

It's quite lame really, last night I was pushing hard for me and a bunch of my mates to go see Hitchhiker's Guide. But sadly the majority vote when to xXx 2: TEH NEXT LEVEL
I didn't particularly want to see it alone, so I just skipped out.

I'm quite sceptic toward the movie. The trailer I saw felt, well, less intelligent than the books.
-
Damn, I want to see this. I hope it either stays in the US theaters for a while, so it'll still be around when I get back, or it comes out here really quickly, so I can see it in theaters before I leave. If, after all this time, I don't get to see it in the theater, I'm gonna be a SAD panda.

LOVED the movie.
Extremely funny especially the self-discovering whale.
"Hello ground!" -
They left in the scene about the whale? AWESOME.
I really want to see this. I'm a big fan of Douglas.
-
Did they keep in Shooty and Bang Bang, the lovable liberal cops who shot at Zaphod? And what of the "Beware of the Leopard" bit in the beginning?
Meh, I'll probably see it anyway since I like the guy who does Marvin's voice (and played Metatron in Dogma).

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IT HOMAIGAWD. Going on Monday maybe. Stupid final paper being due in Lit…
-
I saw it this afternoon. I thought it was great from the beginning up until Arthur and Ford boarded the Heart of Gold…but then all of a sudden, WTF? They completely changed so much of the story. It wasn't a bad movie, but it took my brain a long time to recover from all the deviations. I may enjoy it more a second time just so I'll know what to expect and what not to expect.

I saw it, it wasn't that great. Pretty good but forgetable. Some parts were just lame, too. Can't recall which (like I said, forgettable -_- ) Overall I'd give a 6.5 or 7/10. I must say, though, it was visually STUNNING. And Marvin was great. Never read the books, though.
-
The books are brilliant. Couldn't say the same for the movie, though. Although the visuals were very good. There were some parts that they got right, others they failed miserably.

A friend of mine (who has read all the Hitchhiker books) said that it was a good movie, just as expected not as good as the books and not a movie she would rave about. But she said it was good enough to keep her from tearing her hair out in frustration.
But she did said that Marvin was absolutely brilliant. Well, it's Alan Rickman, how can you go wrong?

I don't know… from what I saw of the previews, I was wondering what book they were basing it off of. Hardly recognized a thing. Nothing looked like it was supposed to. And as bad as I think it's gonna be...I'm still gonna go see it. And take my towel with me when I do. 'Cause I'm a nerd.

To be quite honest with you…I just saw it with Monty. I haven't fallen asleep during a movie in a really long time, but I did during this one. It really felt like a movie that should have been geared at 10 years and under. There were clever moments that were funny, but over all, it just did not hold my interest at all.
I have never read the book in its entirety, its one of those things that my friends have always talked about and quoted. I've always wanted to read it, and now I think I'll definitely give it a try. From what I've been told, and from the snipets from it I've read/had read to me, it seems like a very clever and enjoyable read. I unfortunately did not get that kind of feeling from the movie.

I left. Why couldnt they just leave it as penguins instead of chairs. It sucked

I really enjoyed it myself; the actual Guide itself was pretty awesome. I also loved the Vogons. I also loved the depiction of the Improbability Drive.
I don't have any complaints about any of the actors. Slartibartfast and Marvin came off especially well and I also liked Rockwell's depiction of Zaphod.
As far as the script goes, I was pleased by how much of the book's humor translated onscreen. I think it was a fine adaption of the book as some of the more memorable scenes were kept intact.

Oh my god, a few, maybe 6 annoying 14-16 year olds came running into the theatre yelling "Hey everyone i hope you remembered your towels" While it doesn't seem that annoying in writing, watching these people in front of me made me want to kill myself. It goes on my top 10 most annoying moments ever.

Just got back from seeing it a bit ago. It's odd, I liked all the actors and a lot more of the book translated to the screen than I thought it would, but through the whole thing I just got the feeling I should have been enjoying it more than I was. I really can't put my finger on it. I loved the actors playing Zaphod and Slartibartfast particularly, and I liked the new material they added in and whatnot, but… I dunno, something just wasn't clicking for me. I didn't hate it or anything, but it just wasn't as funny as I found the books.
