I've seen alot of talk over who will be the next crewmember but i decided to approach it in more of a logical manner, what's the role of the next crewmember gonna be? i remember luffy was obsessed with getting a musician before sanji could that be the role of the next crew member?

Well I said it a quite of times already. I think that after the carpenter, the next crewman should be a helmsman. OK right now all the guys took over the role occasionally but I mean they would need one of the best if not THE best helsman in the world. After all this is the dangerous Grand Line and there must be a reason why only Gold Roger made it through Raftel. So even if you have the best Navigator you´re nothing without a very good helmsman.
But maybe I should try a different approach, let´s just asume that they weren´t on a boat but on a Space Ship. They would have the captain, the marksman, the navigator, the cook, the doctor, the archeologist for surface missions but who the hell would be supposed to fly that damn thing? There´s no pilot. So I guess to make it to Raftel (and even more further) they need a good helsman.
Other then that I had a little wild theory on what kind of crewmate (besides the musician) would be missing. And though many of you might disagree I think some kind of priest wouldn´t be that far off. Back in the days in the real world every ship had some kind of priest on board. And even on some pirate ships there where some kind of priests thought there were a little more unorthodox of course.
At least I think that further in the series the Strawhat´s will have to deal with some higher power when it gets to the origin of the Devil Fruits so maybe a character who´s familiar with it wouldn´t be that bad. Besides if anybody thinks that a priest wouldn´t be funny then just take Miroku from Inuyasha as example. Though he is not One-Piece-funny he´s certainly a humorous character. And I think that Oda can come up with an even better religious or should I better say spiritual character…Oh and by the way, if we go back to my space ship theory then this guy could actually be a counselor. Just a thought.

Helmsman could work, more so than a shipwright as i don't quite get why they'd need to travel with one fulltime, i mean how often does the ship take on damage which usopp can't fix?
Besides what would be the dream that the Helmsman would be following? saying that what would be the dream that the musician is following, finding the perfect drum.
My other theory is that we've seen an array of ethnicities (or atleast hair colours) in the ship; ginger, black, green, blonde, brunette, could the next one bear an afro? i'd either say Afro or Bald head._

I actually meant some sort of medicine man. Someone who´s there for the mystic aspect. I get your point with Nico Robin, but she still is an archeologist. Very often, otherwise they wouldn´t need the carpenter they are looking for now. But since you´re not up to date with the manga I don´t want to spoil it for you. But since you´ve seen the anime up to ep 229 I guess you already know that the Strawhats are looking for a carpenter to join them, which will happen once this mega arc is over.

Now there you are asking me too much. If I would be that creative to think of an adecuate dream for a helmsman, then I would already start to do a manga myself.
But seriously, maybe we could take race drivers (be in Formula 1, Nascar or whatsoever). They´re biggest dream is it to become the best driver in the world. And maybe it could be something along this lines though it had to be a lot more explored why he want´s that (i. e. following his flashback idol) and how exactly it makes sense in the One Piece world. Aren't there already more than planty of similar discussions under different topics ? Oh well, like Ivotas I've also said many times that I would like to have a helmsman. A shipwright is already guaranteed and for a musician, Franky's enough for me.

I think the nineth crewmember is going to be somebody the Strawhats aren't in dire need of, but a great help nonetheless (like Ussop, Robin and Zoro).
Personally I think they need somebody who knows information about people/places in the Grandline, like a criminal dirt-digger or something. Robin is somebody who would know this sort of stuff, but her role seems to be only that of an archaeologist/translater. The Strawhats entered the Grandline knowing nothing, and although Luffy likes to travel without thinking ahead, it might be something that comes in handy. But then again, One Piece might not be as exciting. :mellow:
Something's been bothering me about the shipwright thing. It seems likely that Luffy's going to recieve a kick-ass new ship from Franky that will be able to withstand any dangers in the Grandline (or something along those lines). If that's the case, would there be any need for a carpenter? It would only mean less work for Ussop.

Just download CDisplay to view the manga, then download the scan volumes. It works much better than reading it off the MSN groups.

Seriously just discussing what other´s have said will never give you the excitement like reading the real deal. It is just awesome. Though I agree with the other´s that it is quite troublesome to read each and every chapter of the msn groups, it is still better then nothing if you have no other chance.

If you can access zips, you don't have to worry about IRC. Just go to StopTazmo. All One Piece scans are the exact same scans of each chapter.

I was just saying that there's no point in discussing about something you haven't read, and that it doesn't help to ask a question that was already answered months ago (where to get scans). You've only been here for a few days, so you probably don't know how many members join and ask for scans.
