I was wondering, how long can Luffy actually stretch when he uses his body?
Because when I was reading the Kuro and Luffy fight Kuro stood on Luffy's arm for a few moments and there was no action of his arm like retracting or w.e.
Luffy's stretch.
-
-
Wrong section eh? I'm pretty sure Oda mentioned it somewhere, but it was meassured in Gomus.
-
Well, I think he meant how long he can keep something stretched- measured in time.
I'm pretty sure Oda never mentioned it, and I have no idea myself.
-
and here I thought this was gonna be another thing asking whether Luffy can stretch his penis.
-
Well If I get my answer you'll get yours buddy.
What do you mean wrong section??
-
8 Seconds.
Then Luke Perry gets his nuts stepped on by a bull.
-
I was wondering this for a tiny bit also before. Most of the time Luffy's stretch is like a rubber band, and once it reaches how far its gonna stretch, it immedietly snaps back. I think that is how it is supposed to be, whenever it doesn't is just a mistake.
-
Metalvirus: think you are forgetting gomu gomu no octopuss.
Luffy can most likely extend and hold his limbs extended for some time. (however its going to be a tremendous effort to keep an extended arm paralell to the ground (meaning holdeing it in the air) without any accelleration to or from luffys body due to the leverage principle)
it's just that most of the time there is no point in keeping his limbs extended so he pulls them back.
-
Hm, but for that it seemed like he simply…Actually I dont even know what the heck he did there.
This should be an SBS question. Someone needs to send a letter to Oda
-
We got the incident at Arlongs park too.. His head gets stretched out of the water seemingly without it beeing hard for the people to hold… suggesting there is no/little pull to try to get it back into the water. (atlest less pull then there should beif he acts as a rubberband. stretching him out that much would require a lot of force)
-
Basically the question here seems to be, how much control does Luffy have over his body?
I mean, his Devil Fruit power gives him a stretchy body. We know that, But it seems like he would be amazingly strong with out it, since he can lift really heavy stuff like Enel's ball of gold without needing to stretch. The advantages his body gives him in battle are all about stretching his body and releasing it in the opposite direction, giving him elastic power.
So, do his limbs only retract when he relaxes them? it would seem that way, as seen when he uses attacks like his Bazooka– he stretches his arms back, holds them there for a moment, and releases. So he appears to be able to control his arms, even when they are extended.
As to the Arlong Park thing, perhaps Luffy's body is much stretchier when he is totally relaxed, e.g. when he is unconscious? -
I say Luffy has quite a bit of control over his stretching properties. How he is able to twist hit body (for storm) or arm (for rifle) as well as being able to do other such things. Rather it is safe to say he lacks quite a bit of control over it he still has a fair chunk of control.
One thing I think it is important to keep in mind about Luffy's powers, when he stretches that isn't just an attachment which he uses, it's still his own body.

Do keep in mind that you're trying to apply the Laws of Physics to a mere fantasy manga.
I don't want to sound negative, but why make logic sense of it when it's fun to enjoy it as it is? -
-
XD love it, bushido. (I did a report on Stephen Hawking once. He's a pretty awesome guy. nodnod)

I don't want to sound negative, but why make logic sense of it when it's fun to enjoy it as it is?I dont need to… but it was a discussion and i think its fun to partake. i know im overanalysing things but Oda still tries to make sense of most things that happens in the manga. Since someone asked a question somebody should try to answer him yes?
There is nothing wrong in trying to guess if there IS some sense in the current topic is there?"don't kill my buzz, dude" =P
Mr Bushido: hehe best yomoma joke i'v seen in a while ^^
-
HAY GUYS, LET'S NOT DISCUSS PHYSICS..
WE'RE TRYING TO DISCUSS MORE PRESSING MATTERS…sheesh
<_< -
Seriously, tho… I think Luffy can hold it as long as he wants. ^_~
-
I believe that when Luffy stretches his arm out, it would normally just snap back. However, when he wants to, he can hold it in place with a little effort.
-
Bushi, have I told you how much I love public display of dorkiness?  I think you've just exceeded every dorks I've ever seen before. XD Hawking is pure genius/awesomeness.
Back on topic: I think the fact that Luffy can stretch out pretty much means that he has total (if not near total) control over his elasticity. No matter how much kinetic energy a piece of rubber has, it's not going to strect by its own; it needs something to pull it in opposite direction (ie. force exerted by something else). Luffy, however, doesn't. And I second the gomu gomu no octopus… that's his power's doing as well. Don't tell me you've never seen a rubber band go limp.

hold what? is anyone suggesting Luffy is incontinent at the age of 17?
:ninja: the out of context ninja was here :ninja:
-
The answer is YES.
-
Thanks for posting that, Bushi. After today, I could use a good laugh.
Based on what I've seen, I can honestly say Luffy can stretch farther than his own line of sight. So, that's it's probably more than 50 feet.

Remember when he kicked Wapol's ass on Drum Island?
Oh wow… whaddya know...:ninja:
-
Woah, that's some stretch.
-
He could please an entire village!
(With help from Robin.)
-
wow, that's friggin' amazing.
Its fun to wonder if we can make some real life sense out of magical fantasy manga stuff. :3
hrm, depend eh? lol, grand line size!
-
Luffy can stretch up to 72 Gomu-Gomu's(rubber rubber's, gum-gum's) but he wants to be able to stretch 100.

That was exactly what I was thinking about.

yeah, there was a question in the SBS that I'm sure that you all are aware of, but it's measurements weren't exactly what we'd know…
-
Yea, and I wasn't asking how far he can stretch anyway.
-
Thanks to that picture and the Pythagorean Theory, it's possible to know how far Luffy was stretching at that time if:
(1.) we know the elevation of Drum Castle
(2.) we know the distance from the base of the mountain to the edge of town.
-
Dont think we need to use the Pythagorean theory. the lenght he stretches is probably roughtly equal to (2) due to his hands (despite the optical illusion) probably still beeing on the same elevation as the castle.
