Acting Thread

This is a thread for any members who act, have an interest in acting, or whatnot. This could apply to stage acting, screen acting, voice acting, professional acting, amateur acting, or any other form of acting there is. Pretty much everyone has had to act in one form or another at some point in their lives, so I thought I would make a thread on the subject.

Even if you don't have any sort of experience acting, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread. Or if you are experienced in acting and have a story to tell or have advice to give, that's great, too.

Personally, I'm more into voice acting myself, although I have some minor experience in stage acting.

Really? That's quite neat, considering how deep his works are.

Female voices can be rather hard to do, for people who aren't females. Certain males can do it, but sadly I am not one of them. Though I did get cast once as a female character in a school play I was in a couple of months ago. I was the Wicked Witch in a production of Wizard of Oz. It was quite fun. I must compliment you on the effort, especially if you went for breathy and not the standard "all females have high voices" approach I've seen so many do.

To be honest, I've done both.
Whenever I wanted a character to be taken seriously, I went for breathy, though I'm still a little displeased with the results (not least of which in that my acting is really bad):

The high-pitched thing, on the other hand, can fit a situation pretty well if you get the right mood.

And there is one other 'high voice' thing I did that I didn't mind, but I don't think anyone wants to hear me voicing 'those' people, lest I look creepy.
So basically, I like doing it both ways, though I'd prefer if I managed to get them to sound more…professional.

Have done some acting myself in Junior High and High School. My last role was of a mother figure from Iakovos Kambanelis' play The Backyard of Miracles. I always have fun acting but haven't done so for a while.. =( 'Xept if the sock-puppet show we did for an exam counts. We made the puppets, script and stage ourselves.

I have an interest in acting. I've been told my mannerisms are very emphathic and I would be good at it. Never had the courage to give it a go. I'm set on teaching. Nobody where I come from ever really makes a success out of acting.

I've done a lot of acting over the years (mostly school/camp plays,) and I've always found it to be a lot of fun. I'm not sure if this really counts because it's not completely acting-related, but right now I'm in musical class in school, so I've gotten/will get to do some acting during the year. Right now we're rehearsing 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and I'm playing William Barfée, so that's going to be a lot of fun.

I don't really have that great enunciation or vocal variation though, so I'd prefer to stick to stage acting instead of trying to do voice acting.

Already worked in plays, the first piece I ever acted was Hamlet (as the lead role), but that was when I was 18, since then I've always liked acting.
In 2007-2009 I joined a theater group that has made plays in the streets, was the best feeling in the world to me, we always changed the place we would do our presentation.

I'd LOVE to try voice acting, but my microphone is awkward and I'm never home alone these days… hopefully I can figure it out ;D
my voice is so strange, srsly.

heck, I can make it go opera high and even sing in a similar voice to the Go Compare guy ;D

When I was a little kid I did some skits with my music class for the parents, but other than that, I wasn't really big on acting.
What I've always been more involved with is singing.

I've wanted to do voice acting, but I just dont' think I have the right voice for it. If I could sing for character voices or soundtracks that'd be AWESOME though.

I've done some acting. I did a musical performance of Mary Poppins as 'Chimney Sweep number 6', played 'Background Pirate number 2' in my school's rendition of Pirates of Penzance, and I played Reynaldo in my friend's gender bent performance of Hamlet (and I must tell you it was weird because the only difference were the characters' genders, all the themes were the same).

I've also been attempting to get into voice acting (for an abridged anime series), but I'm too much of a perfectionist. However I am planning on creating a series of cosplay parody videos labeled "The Siler Diaries" (no not the bad guy from Heroes, the Sergent with the big spanner in Stargate SG-1, who always ends up in the medical area every episode he's in) and was based off of the 'Demyx Time' videos from JenxtheJinx.

And speaking of Cosplay, being someone who is a perfectionist, whenever I put on a cosplay I get so in character that one cosplay I did, the lethargic Jang Shinah from He's Dedicated to Roses, I almost couldn't get back to the happy, smiling, loud, almost hyper person that I am (and even I've been acting like that for four years now)

I did a lot of acting in high school and absolutely loved it.
I joined my college's theater group yesterday. They do mostly straight plays, which I typically prefer, so I think it will be an enjoyable experience. I'll also be trying out for my town's new community theater in the spring. A lot of people I acted with in high school will be auditioning, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I am a reasonably good actor. Our group had made quite a few short movies recently and for most of them I played the villain… I found that I enjoy it ENORMOUSLY.... and when I am acting, its like I am in a different dimension. I can do all sorts of embarrassing things and not care about them...

I'm hoping to be a voice actor at some point - I have a great vocal range (except when it comes to singing :<), but I'm not too fond of acting live. Which, admittedly, I've only done thrice, but meh.

Sanji's dream is to find the All Blue, Luffy's dream is to be King of the Pirates….well I dream to be a great actor. To me, acting is a passion. I know I'll never get very far in life if I want to be an actor, as it is a very competitive field, and I accept that. But I still want to get out there, to be in plays and make myself known. If I could get paid for something I enjoy every minute of, I'd be set. To be honest, I sometimes have lofty fantasies of being a rich, A-list Hollywood actor. Don't we all like to fantasize sometimes? :P Regardless, I do want to get into acting and I was in a lead in a short play last year and I hear I did great, and I'm also in an Acting class at school, so I hope to accomplish my dreams. I can't say how good I am compared to you guys, but if I ever made it big, you can bet I'll still be on Arlong Park to share that joy! And no, I don't expect I'll get very far with acting. I have fallback careers planned, among other things. I just know this is what I want right now.

I did theatre for years. Like, practically my whole life. Never learned to sing and I can dance fairly well. But I promise you, I can act my ass off.

I had to give it up for practicality purposes once I graduated high school. Perhaps I will get into it again one day?

Iam told to be a rly good actor and was part in about 4-5 plays when i was younger.
Always wanted to make it later a hobby of mine, but somehow i never came to it in later years..
