So, an amusing incident made me want to create this thread.

Have you seen those makeshift metal headbands in Naruto that hardcore fans wear in real life?
      <(A picture if you don't.)

Well, about 50 or so students wear these in our high school during class hours. About a month ago however, those headbands were banned in our school, angering a bunch of fans.
And so, they formed some sort of group and went on what they liked to call a…rebellion. Those students, even the ones who didn't wear the headbands before, dressed up in cosplay like their favorite Naruto characters to school, and even started petitions. (Oi, oi, oi.)
This lasted for about a week before around 80 students got suspension for 3 days, going on their permanent record.
They weren't too happy, but it was rather humorous for the rest of the school for that month.

My question is, any job/school related experiences that have to do with Anime/Manga? Even ones you've heard about, by chance?

        What a pointless, petty rebellion… I could single-handedly wreak more havoc in my school than wearing a headband and starting a petition = =;

Er.... I had my manga confiscated once in primary school... WOO! REBELLION, MAN!!!
(Can't think of anything good at the moment)

Never any anime rebellions in my school. In fact, I don't know too many anime fans. Most of the students at my high school are into sports.

I can't think of anything as "Large scale" as your story, but I saw some Narutards back in high school wearing Konoha forehead protectors. But, not around their foreheads, since headbands were considered hats. But, I saw one girl wear it around her neck like Hinata.

There were some self-portrait paintings hung up in the art section of the school. One of them had the Homonculi symbol from Fullmetal Alchemist in its eye.

Back when I was still a Narutard, I wore a Sound Village headband around my neck. My friend's sister went crazy, and said she hoped no one would think I was in a gang since "The Sound Ninjas are a gang". Then, my friend Steven saw me wearing it around my head outside and told me "You look like a Ninja Turtle!"

Man, I'm glad that Narutard phase didn't last long.

              Rappin' Chopper:

"Yo; I was a reindeer livin' out in 'da snow! But then this old geeza' doctor brought me into his home! After healin' my wounds, I felt real phat. Then, old docta' Hiruk gave me this blingin' hat! My family beat me, shunt me, but it's all tight. Because I'm doin' my doctor remedies all night. I look like freak with my Human Human fruit. But now I'm with some gangsta' pirates who like to steal loot! All the girls like my blue nose. Yeah; it's the way that I get the Record scratching. Usopp's the guy with all 'da glory. He's my main man with all his tight stories. Zolo's Santoryu skills are on ice. You betta' watch out, or you gonna get sliced! Sanji's the cook servin' up the main dish. Don't mess with him, unless that's your wish. Luffy's 'da captain with the straw hat! His Gum Gum skills are real real tight. Vivi's the princess of Alabasta. Now we gotta head there, and we betta' do it faster!"

I was once drawing a picture of Luffy in art class. The kid next to me says "Hey, is that 'Narto?'" Then my brain asplode.

That is the most thrilling anime/manga-related experience I've ever had in school.

Does your high school have uniforms? If not, I can't really understand why they would ban it.

Public Schools are histrionic about anime and shit and how they're bad for you while colleges like Harvard and Princeton have anime clubs. Like my school, they don't like animation of any sort. I don't know if it's the lack of Asians or whatnot, but people shouldn't be suspended for something like this.

In Oregon. The place doesn't even have any Anicons.

I was quite surprised, actually. There's about 2000 students in our school, (And on top of that, it's known for it's shallow and jocky students) and the anime fans are usually quiet and mostly huddle in a corner. >.> Outcasts, mostly.

Nah, no uniforms. Although you would think so…if you're wearing anything that's not in style, you're an automatic outcast.

When I was in high school, they banned all Disney & Looney Tunes shirts because they were considered "gang related"! WTF!!!

Also, I would always get detention for wearing satanic death metal tshirts… ah, rebellious youth.

My school has a strict uniform policy, so we don't have that problem. I have however seen some people wearing Naruto headbands (And I've even seen some Naruto jackets) in public places, which makes me very tempted to crochet a real quick Usopp wristband or redo my Cabaji scarf (The first one I made was so big that it was more like a blanket. Oops.) to try and out-nerd them and prolong the whole "Pirate v. Ninja" thing.

There haven't really been any anime/manga related incidents worth mentioning at my school. It's just one of those things that a handful of people are into and no one else gets it so they just ignore it.

My friend used to wear that jacket that kakashi wears at my school with a headband and no one said anything at all.

Even after I had jokingly told people he could easily fit a couple of knives in his jacket and headband.

Some schools like to nitpick over different accessories while still allowing their students to wear basically what they want for the most part. If I remember correctly my high school has a ban on wearing hats in class, spaghetti strap shirts, certain flip-flops, too short shorts, etc.

Seriously though.. A rebellion over some stupid headband? o.O
I really have nothing to say about my anime/manga experiences in school. Most of the people at my school either like anime or they don't, and most of those who do would never act out against the adminstration just to wear a headband.. (They're crazy but not THAT kind of crazy.) If anything my experiences in school relating to anime are relatively normal…

I know I've told this story before, but it seems to fit in here. I worked at a movie theater last year and we'd get a lot of job applications when we were hiring. I handled one girl who dropped an application off wearing one of those Naruto headbands, which I thought was odd, but figured maybe she was downtown anyway and just decided to drop it off, or maybe didn't know the ettiquite about dress even when just dropping an app. off. Didn't think much of it until she came in to interview… wearing the same headband. I had to snicker to myself in the back. I see her around town sometimes, always wearing the headband, and I have to wonder what the tanline on her forehead must be like.

If you spoiler me, I will eat you with tater tots.

All the Narutards at my school have that kind of stuff, It's either Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, or Naruto but mostly Naruto. My friend has a notebook filled with weird webcomics and her(and her friends) fan art of Gaara(SP?) and she has a sand village head band and she wears it around her waist like that blond haired sakura girl. I also see some kids with shirts, jackets, keychains, and some stupid kid (Kinda a friend of mine in a really stupid kinda way[Don't ask]) once brought a small kunia so he could make some holes in his gloves/pants (Stupid satanic metal fashions).

I can understand if the clothes is a bit revealing but really, its just a goofy fad. Xp

As to my school having a similar experience, none. First my school really lacked in the anime fans department. The most you would see would be patches and keychains of Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist on the girls backpacks (very few btw). That and the elementary school kids playing with Pokemon and Yugioh cards (which were banned after a while).

Second, my school was ruled with an iron fist. No one dared to go against the dean or the school's director. We wore uniforms and the dress code was extremely strict. Without a doubt if the students started wearing those headbands, it would have been banned.

And I admit, my little cousin is one of those who wears Naruto headbands. She wears it like Sakura though so it's not that bad.

Also, I would always get detention for wearing satanic death metal tshirts… ah, rebellious youth.

                                          Really?
If our school would have had a rule against T-shirts like that, about half of guys in my school would have got detention every day.

I don't remember anything like that "rebellion" happening in my school. Sure, there were some people who were into pokemon, for example, but who didn't get into trouble because of it or anything… They just draw them at art-class or something. One guy always draw anime-characters in his test-papers and homework. He once got some extra points because of them, since the teacher thought they were cool. (However, he failed the test anyway)

I recently modified my geology note-book look like a death note, but I doubt no-one even noticed it, and even if they would, it wouldn't really be that weird.

Honestly though, I would never cosplay in public outside of a convention...

Well, I don't think there's anything that's as obvious as a Naruto headband for OP fans. Even the most dedicated of us wouldn't wear a Franky speedo (well, maybe for a Smoker P.O.P.), and most wouldn't wear a straw hat.

The closest you get to OP attire is Franky/Arlong shirts.

Honestly, I watch Bleach with my best friend during Physics (Laptops kick ass. XD). Aside from a few stares of interest, nobody really minds it. As long as you aren't some mouth-breather who approaches the jocks and shrieks, 'OHMIGOD NARUTO ONE PIECE KAWAIIIII,' nobody really minds it. Everyone in my school (despite the undertones of superiority from both sides) sorta stays in their court and never bullies the other, and if they do, it's a big thing.

My school had once a problem concerning anime/manga. It was in the time when Yu-Gi-Oh was a smash hit, and some Evangelist organizations of my town thought Yu-Gi-Oh was more other "devil's conspiracy" to lure the children to evil… maybe because the monsters looked too scary or macabre rather than the usual Pokemons or Digimons.

Anyway, those organizations won, and any stuff related to Yu-Gi-Oh were banned from all the schools. Well, just for a long while.

I would definitely wear a scarf like Cabaji's. My first attempt at making one (Luls, hand-made OP accessory) kind of failed because it was way too huge. Then again, I wear scarves almost all the time, any time of the year, so it wouldn't be all that unusual for me.

I definitely wouldn't wear any goofy OP stuff if it was completely out of the ordinary though, although I have a pretty broad definition of normal attire.

Hmm, don't really have any stories like you guys, but there's one thing about our library that's kinda pathetic. There's a good amount of manga, and I think that's the only reason anyone bothers to go in there to check something out. I mean what's up with that? People outta try reading books. Yes, books. Yeah I've checked out a good amount of manga there, but for Christ's sake, I actually bother to check out books (not anymore, since it's almost the end of the year).

This all sounds pretty funny. I can't see why people would care so much. I've always felt like Halloween is the time to wear those sorts of things.

She wrote names of manga characters she hated with ways she wanted them to die, and her teacher thought it was an asassination schedule.

Nothing anime-related has ever been banned in my schools. But, I remember in elementary, South Park shirts were banned. This was when it first aired. It think I started it, since I came to school with the "Oh my God! They killed Kenny!" shirt, and was sent to the principal's office.

Back in high school, I was practically the only one who liked anime/Japanese pop culture. In Grade 10 near the end of the school year, I brought a video with Megaranger (Power Rangers In Space) and wanted to show the class where Power Rangers came from. I just wanted to show them the opening to the series but the teacher decided that we would watch 10 minutes of the show. The video was raw, no subs or dubbed. From the start, everyone laughed at the language and after we were finished watching, I got comments like

"Did you know that 'chi-chi' means penis in Japanese? They could be saying that."

and one classmate stretched his eyes and asked "Why are their eyes like this?"

I wish I didn't bring the show to class.

I've seen several Naruto shirts, a (yes just one) FMA fan, and one kid reading manga. Some of my friends watch anime because me and my other friend (he's asian, go figure, we had to start it ;x) got them into it, most people who know us know we like that stuff.

Oh yeah, my little sister (10yrs) got a headband, I totally wore it once. Ninja style.

Well, you could sell it to a Tom Baker fan. 😄

I definitely wouldn't wear any goofy OP stuff if it was completely out of the ordinary though, although I have a pretty broad definition of normal attire.

The thing is, there's very little that's both attainable and too out of the ordinary. Yes, people would stare if you had Don Krieg armour, but where are you going to get that?

Narutards wear headbands because they can get headbands. We're left with either home-made goods or Arlong shirts.

                                                                            [Edit]

You can get any sort of anime/manga merchandise you want there. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a vending machine selling life-size inflatable gyojin pool toys (and if there isn't, it must be done). In most of the English-speaking world, you can't get Chopper hats without spending a fortune in postage

She also at times wears a necklace with Link from Zelda on the front, and occassionally wears a necklace with a chibi character hanging off of it.

You can get any sort of anime/manga merchandise you want there. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a vending machine selling life-size inflatable gyojin pool toys (and if there isn't, it must be done). In most of the English-speaking world, you can't get Chopper hats without spending a fortune in postage

You're saying you can now get Naruto headbands in the US?

                                                                                    Who'd have thought.

Either way they're cheap as shit (one's I've seen in the past have been like $20 which is cheap for licensed merchandise) and I'm sure wouldn't cost must postage since they're lightweight. Shipping from Japan is only hellish when you try to send big stuff.

No matter where you go, there you are.

There was this one time when one of my brother's friends who I know was on the school newspaper, actually wrote an editorial that pretty much bashed anime, and long story short, the negative backlash (in the form of a letter around the school and in the paper) was responsible for spawning an anime club at my high school.

Looking back at it though, that backlash was kinda justified. He labeled anime "Japanese gutter slime" when all reviewed was the 4kids Yu-Gi-Oh dub.

Of course, this is all back in high school.
