But we haven't seen him naked yet. :'(
But we haven't seen him naked yet. :'(
Lets thank God for that…we don't want Abs goin invisible and spreading his legs nude now WOULD WE?
Heh, how come the TB freaks get all touchy when people call the arc "filler" or "mini"?
Anyway, I think this arc's a lot of fun, though I wouldn't call it a favorite of anything. Odz and Kuma are the highlights for me. Moira himself is a pretty cool villain, but I can't say any of the rest of the supporting cast of the island really grew on me. There were some fun ideas, though, and I dug the overall vice of it.
Also, I LOVE Brooke, and I do hope he joins the crew… Even though I was really hoping Oda would write a scene where he meets Baloon, and then goes on the next world in peace... If he joins, that's obviously never gonna happen. Oh well. Also, I hope he's the last member to join. The crew's getting a bit too packed at this point, even though Oda's done an excelent job of fleshing everyone out and giving them unique personalities thus far.
I thought this arc was godlike from the beginning. Kuma never really did much for me, it's cool and all that he's there, but besides Brook, Ryum, Moria, and the whole zombie thing, the one thing that really pushed this arc into god-state was Oz. Holy fucking Ownage he's awesome.
I've liked this arc since brooke was introduced, he's funny as hell.
the whole halloween theme is cool as hell too.
TB still seems like more of a side story than anything else. seems like another whiskey peak to me. no real story behind it, just a fighting arc. it just happened they ran into brooke before hand to make this arc have any real purpose.

Ummmmmm Whiskey peak was the trigger for the entire BW saga…....entirely not useless at all. THis is definately going to have some tie in to a bigger story. In all honesty, the only TRUE "Side-Arc" was DBF....XP
ok lemme use a better arc as an example. DBF(sorry forgot all about that arc). If it moves past TB into a bigger arc you can call it more than a mini arc. the plot to TB is strawhats saving their own lives. they didn't go there to save brooke's shadow, he just happened to be there at the same time.
I find it funny that you can think of DBF differently just because they weren't fighting a shickibuka.

Did I mention shickibukai at all? Nooooo. And yes, they did originally set out intending to get Brook's shadow back. If Brook joins this automatically becomes more than a mini arc. As I said, the only TRUE mini arc was DBF, all the others have some form of tie-in.
I'd personally call whiskey peak and thriller bark "transitional arcs".

Well technically the Thriller Bark Arch started at Labboon. It just got a really long introduction.
I think it is like G7-Arc. A long introduction to the Avange-Ace-Arc…
I like Thriller Bark, but I dislike how the Big Four were made out to be these powerful pirates, then show mediocre abilities in battle. Kuma, Moria, and Odz have sort of made up for this though, but I want to see more of that Zombie General with the guns, and Captain John.

One does that have to do with what I just said? :)
And I think it's pretty far-fetched to connect both arcs like that. The main purpose of the story's to show the straw-hats kickin' ass and prove how far they've come.

What was that? They didn't turn out to suck, its just that the Straw Hats have grown so much that they're that much better.
and don't forget, Moria was one of those 4.
Also, I don't think we're going to see them again. EVER. In fact, I'm fairly certain they were crushed by Oz…....

G7?….......
Plus, I don't think avenging Ace will come for a while since BB is more of a Final Villian.
I think its suppose to be G8… Which isn't part of the manga storyline.

Ah, so it was a filler…...................I won't even dignify it with a direct response. Filler doesn't count...ESPECIALLY not here in the MANGA discussion thread.....XP
To me Thriller Bark is just like any ordinary arc. There's not much to really catch my full 'OH WOW! this is so awesome! runs off to school and tells everyone about the newest chapter' kind of feeling. Maybe it was the earlier pacing of the story that really threw me off, (early January until now). If that's how long a normal manga arc usually takes, then maybe its just because Im a bit impatient.
At the beginning, I also had that impression that Thriller Bark was going to be a filler arc, just like Davy Back Fight. But then, as it went on, I really started liking it. First, because Oda has finally, in my opinion, went through the "Ghost Ship" motif. Secondly, although I didn't lose the feeling of a filler the whole time (even with the addiction of a Shichibukai into it), it was really fun. Liked a lot the enemies (REALLY liked Absalom, and Ryuuma was a nice opponent with a DON for Zoro, after that ridiculous giraffe.. :P), even more the fights (it was great to see Usopp fighting all alone after so long). Seeing them all unite against Oz had the greatest DON in the whole arc (although I'm far from liking Moria as a nice main villain…hate those who flee rather than fight properly, like Enel :P).
It started to gain depth, with the entrance of Kuma (and the news he had brought with him), but, still, a very funny semi-filler arc, for me. :)
By "filler" most people mean "not made by the mangaka". Just want to point that out. (Meaning G8 is considered Filler, DBF is not.)
Enel didn't flee, did he? He got his ass kicked hard enough before he went to the moon.

Actually it seems that MOST people consider Filler to be DBF and such…..but it ACTUALLY IS stuff not made by the manga-ka/In whatever came second but not in what came first (Somtimes the anime came first)
Think they don't really consider it filler. They just don't know what word to use to describe the non epic arcs. (I dont know either.)

Well even if you did know it wouldn't apply to One piece because all the arcs are epic, even the fillers. I enjoyed the Rainbow Arc very much.
I chew up the pre GL filler and spit Apis on you hawkeye!
(yeah yeah i know Oda intended for that to be canon… but i still spit Apis on you)

Eh, most people I've talked to or seen on this forum seem to :getlost:

If anything Thriller Bark is more like the Drum arc then if Brooke jjoins.
@Crocodile15:
Do you mean G8 arc?
sry, confused…
I meant Water 7 Arc, the one before Enies Lobby. (if it was called like this)
Pretty long one for what the arc was telling us.
I'd say that TB became much more interesting, when kuma appeared and we saw, that mugiwaras without luffy are no match for odz with moria. But hoping that we will somehow get to know what exactly happend to Ace and also hoping, that the next arc will NOT be fishman island with the next shichibukai on it, I'd really like to see a Rescue-Ace-Arc, which would be similar to the Rescue-Robin-Arc, called Enies-Lobby.
So TB is like Water 7 to me.

Ummmmm, no, that would suck. To much buildup for BB to use him now :getlost:

If it was going to be the rescue Ace arc, they would have to go backwards towards Impel Down which is next to Enies Lobby where they just were.

Nah~
Cause I'd shoot myself if we had to go through another save the nakama drama we been through. I'd be much more happier to see Ace get ridiculed at the pirate summit after Blackbeard drags him down there to show that he's big shit.
