Chapter 456 "Demon from the Frozen Land" Discussion

@joekido:
The chapter is kinda disappointing, there is no flashback sequences. This chapter is pure and simple and strieghtforward, yet I hope in the next chapter we get a brief flashback on Oz. I would like to see what he did 500 years ago.
Let´s see, we got all that in one single chapter:
- The salt thing about which I like that Oda even bothered to give in an logic explenation
- The bit of Brook/Thriller Bark backstory plus more on the shadow thingy
- The question that Franky asked Brook plus the result of it
- Brook meeting up with Ryuma
- Morias talk about Kaido
- Seeing that Absalom, Perona and even Hogback speak about their ambitions which is cool to see come from somebody else then the main antagonist
- And last but not least 900!!!
And you seriously are disappointed because there´s no flashback? Even more senseless to be disappointed to not receive any backstory for somebody who´s been introduced on the last page.
Plus is this northern continent the Red Line? Is it borderd by the North Blue? Is there an eastern, wastern and southern continent? I hope Oda explains this soon.
Isn´t it clear that there is only one continent in the OP world which goes around the world and is called Red Line? What northern continent are you refering to?
-
This was an awesome chapter! Oz(900) looks cool,Brook vs Ryuma, and Franky crying XD,I bet in the next chapter that when Moria puts Luffy's shadow in Oz he will say "I NEED MEAT!!!!" XD
-
Anybody really itching to see what Captain John and Jigorouh of the Wind are saying on page 14? The spaces are blank, and it appears they might be saying something rather important.
-
The scanslation is out already. Check the text there. ;)
-
Finally saw the chapter through the online viewer and I all I got to say is….
GODDAMN!!
#900 really IS huge! Also, he does kinda look like Saul but then again looks can be deciving.
-
OK. So you most likely don't lose your battle abilities when you lose your shadow.
Your fighting abilities are just copied and given to a zombie. Which sucks for that zombie getting Luffy's as his techniques all involve his devil fruit.
This means it is a good chance that Luffy will be awoken and fight OZ. So Luffy has to defeat himself in that zombie body. Zoro will be found and have to beat himself as well.
This sets up the perfect time for Gear 3 to be shown off. Seeing as how OZ is a friggin huge behemoth. Makes me wonder who will beat Moria and co then… Maybe the zombies will rebel and beat them then in turn are defeated by the Strawhats.
-
**I think it would be cool if Moria isn't defeated by Luffy. I mean, if Luffy does fight Oz then it would be a really tough battle. Oz is going to be stronger than Luffy (at least when he doesn't use gears) once the shadow gets implanted into him. And that Kaidou character seems interesting. Wonder if he's good or bad and if we'll ever see him
And I'm starting to think Donflamingo is going to play a role a little different from the regular arc villian. It's just odd that Moria and Donflamingo have such close bounties (even if frozen). Unless Donflamingo is really that much stronger than when he became a schichbukai.**

"Sigh" I do like the chapter. Anyway I meant the northern continent were Oz is found. Fullbody even says in chapter 44 that there is a continent called Micqueot in the northern continent. While it's not the same place, I am left to wonder, how wide is the Red Line? Well there be a detailed map of the Red Line?
-
This chapter was amazing, I have nothing but admiration for Oda that he put a "logical" explanation to the salt thing. Amazing.
Everyone seems to have forgotten Hildon. Remember him? That guy? He'll play an important role.
BTW:
It would be pretty funny if Luffy, Zoro and Sanji woke up after those 2 days only to see the smoking ruins of Thriller Bark, Nami sorting Perona's treasure and Chopper patching up everybody else. Luffy would be dissapointed that the Zombies are gone.
Best. Thing. Ever.
Already picturing it. Even if it doesn't happen, I'm making it happen. The salt seems kinda cheap though, the way we're all thinking about it.
Just throwing salt on 'em can't do the trick.
Three reasons:
- FAR TOO SIMPLE (Yes, that is an increadbly valid reason although the next two will explain the "real" reason)
- Brooke DID know about the salt 5 years ago, that's how he caused so much damage. Hogback and Absalom are terrified that he's back because of what he knows (the salt's power) and how much damage he did last time
- Brooke CUT Talerean. It was bad-ass, (see my avatar) but it also had to serve a purpose. If you could just sprinkle the zombies with salt, he wouldn't have been driven off last time. (Maybe he ran out and got beaten up? Nope, not the way they show him beaten. He tried to fight Ryumma after beating up a bunch of random zombies with a salt coated sword, but Ryumma was too good.) No one is too good a swordsman to avoid salt being thrown at you.
Now complain about my theories.
-
Am I the only one thinking here that Brooke will have his flashback now?
Would be great to see how this fella was looking like when he was alive…

rofl I love this post
NO FLASHBACKS = WORST CHAPTER EVER
-
skarlath your theory is disgusting and vile, looking at it makes my eyes bleed. It' stupid and makes no sense and it's stupid. Just die. I want to vomit on your face you pathetic excuse for a person.
-
Remember that Oda has a technique which he has already shown here. He slows flickers of an overall flashback. Moments in time such as Prof Clover for Robin then goes back to the main story for a bit. Then we have a big flashback. I think we can expect Brooke to have the same.
-
You know, this chapter really raises the question: What the hell is zombie #900, and did he come to be?
Again, this isn't a small arc anymore, something like this can effect all of the One Piece world. Hogback seems to be able to make small changes but the zombie bodies are mostly original. So, what is this zombie? A super giant or something more?
-
Brooke clearly said that you throw the salt at zombies after beating them, so I guess they have to be weakened for it to work.
-
My idea is that 900 was like someone who possibly fought Gol D. Roger. Luffy is probably going to fight Oz, and beat him. I personally don't like Moria's design. Im basically hoping that Oz just rebels and murders Moria or something.

I said I was KINDA disappointed, and when said KINDA I did not MEAN I was EXTREMELY disapppointed! I LIKED GODDAMN CHAPTER ANYWAY!!!
Next time you want to enjoy kicking my ass, do it right.Dammit, amuters, dammit. :getlost:

Jesus do phallic symbols really irk you that much?
-
Okay, I see that after your shadow is extracted, the body is allowed to be returned to his ship. Now of that person dies so as the shadow so the real body getting exposed to the sunlight and get crumbled to dust, the zombie would stop working, has Moria ever gotten worried about that? If Luffy was exposed the sunlight then number 900 will stop working.
-
Maybe he thinks they can't get out of the triangle? It's possible for the really strong, he puts them on a ship and locks everything up so they can't escape.
-
the ground under Brooks hand in the one panel flashback is black… is he casting a shadow in that panel?
Brook was falling from the sky in 464, seemed to me that he might have gotten beaten. Is it possible that Brook has already fought Ryuuma once this time around? The way Ryuuma is waiting for him expectimg him to come and how (atleast i interperated it this way) Brook either knew where Ryuuma was or that he would face him soon, makes me think that Ryuuma is the one who tossed him out to Franky and Robin.
To me Moria is 3 times the hight of his subordinates standing around him (not counting the three midgets that woke him up) yet people that estimates Moris hight in feet dont seem to take this into consideration.
Onigiri is a riceball right? (apart from beeing Zoros demon slash) that is supposed to contain salt right? If the shadows is "purified" when tasteing salt, why is one of the suprise zombies thinking that Onigiri sounds tasty? (when Zoro attacks him)
-
It's like if Zoro were to challenge Mihawk again. You kind of expect things like that.
-
@raj:
Jesus do phallic symbols really irk you that much?
No? I wasn't specifically talking to you either…
-
I actually think that Ryuma will be used as a device to cement in readers minds who is the superior swordman. If Brooke is yet again unable to defeat Ryuma then that will leave that battle for Zoro. By having Zoro defeat Ryuma who house's Brooke's fighting style but is stronger, will allow Brook to join without causing controversy regarding Zoro's dream.
Besides Ryuma looks like he has a perfect sword to gift to Zoro as he is defeated.
-
So… Only the Baka-trio and Brooke are left on the island! Seems interesting! I really really really hope Nami, Usopp and Copper get some serious action this time!
(However, I do think that Sanji, Zoro, Luffy and the others will come back for the final fights)
-
@Cap'n:

Hey you there's no proof that Zoro is ever going to challenge Mihawk again carter.
-
Again, this isn't a small arc anymore, something like this can effect all of the One Piece world.
I thought it was confirmed in the chapter thread that this was a "Mini arc?" Someone said that next week's chapter is supposed to have a Colorspread for this mini arc?
The salt seems kinda cheap though, the way we're all thinking about it.
Just throwing salt on 'em can't do the trick. Now complain about my theories.
Well I don't think the salt thing sounds cheap. The Zombies move by the power of the Devil Fruit, Since salt holds the power of the ocean, It sounds like Seastone to me. It does seem you would have to beat the Zombies first then sprinkle the salt but Brooke did Tell Franky and Robin to pour it in the Zombies mouths. LOL! Good luck against any Zombie fighter worth it's Salt(That was a joke)!!!.
**@Polygon:

Alot, of people were speculating that Doflamingo was not going to be an arc Boss because he was going to have a lower bounty than Moria. Well I guess those speculatOrs have seen the Light. Hope they didn't get their shadows stolen, because they just got burned (another joke)!!!

Whats with the Flashback obsessions BABY.
-
I'm actually impressed with the way this chapter turned out. There's a thousand different ways the fight could have been outlined. I've been worried up until now that this arc might be lame. I know it's just speculation, but the Mugiwara top 3 will have a hell of a time fighting their shadow (Luffy's battle will be EPIC). Tip of the hat to Oda for continuing to keep the series inspiring.
-
I think this chapter was the best in a long time. Which means it's really fucking ucking king good, because I think pretty much every OP chapter is good.
-
I thought the chapter was average at best. A well-rounded chapter full of important information for future battles.
-
A couple of points for you guys to ponder.
1. The Demon Oz could not have fought Gold Rodger, because Moria says Oz died 500 years ago.
2. Moria says that a man named Kaidou defeated him once. Who is Kaidou?
3. Oz looks like a tough MF. I'd hate to have to fight it. They're lucky he's a zombie, and not alive (or is that worse?)
4. Largely impotant, the translation has Brooke saying at the end of his encounter with Ryuuma "Its come back- right at my feet!!!" What happened there? Did his shadow come back?
-
No? I wasn't specifically talking to you either…
I know you weren't, but I posted my reaction to what appeared to be your belligerent disdain for Mr. Gecko's design, referencing the fact that many people here have pointed out he looks like a penis.
-
Am I the only person who likes Jigoro more than Zoro?
-
No, his short bit in this chapter was oddly appealing.
-
First off. I cannot believe NOBODY SAID THIS YET.
PAGE 17:MORIA LOOKS LIKE A FREAKIN PENGUIN.
Now that i got that off my chest, i gotta say the salt thing is sweet. Sounds like an easy way to get rid of those armies of zombies leaving the ones strong and smart because those guys are probably gonna be a lot harder to put salt into their mouths. Its not like they'll just open their mouths and say "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" This will be interesting.
ZOMBIE 900 scariest thing to date. I know someone put in the spoilers that a long long time ago in the Baratie Fullbody mentioned wine coming from a certain northern continent. Plus there are a lot of "places" up there. So this is gonna be sweet seeing.
Looks like during or before Brooke vs Ryuuma there's gonna be gasp a Brooke flashback. Go Brooke for Straw Hat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's great for the crew.
Thanks BF, and thanks to trans, but i was wondering if there was a full translation of the raw chapter since the one posted here was from spoilers and those usually miss a couple of lines.
Oh yea, Kaidou random generic theory, go Na/Uso/Cho to show their stuff…blahblahblah.
-
firefistace, about our conversation earlier.
if anyone reading this hasn't read up to chapter 395… potential spoiler:
in chapter 395, professor clover talks about the ancient civilization that made the poneglyphs to send the message to the future about their enemy, the world government. and that place, that houses the rio poneglyph, is a country that he almost mentions before being shot. if that's not raftel, i'll eat my shorts.
i can't find it, but i could swear someone has actually said it's in raftel, too. i don't see why i would make that up in my head.
-

Why does everyone think that just because a member may potentially join the SH crew they MUST have a Flashback? Especially considering the fact that Brooke ALREADY told us what happen to him five years ago at Thriller Bark? Why ask for a Flashback of Brooke getting his @#$ kicked by Ryuma when you are goiong to see the rematch right now?
What is up with the Flashback obsession BABY!

there's a pretty good scantalation here.
-
there's a pretty good scantalation here.
Thanks.
@Superstar, there's gotta be some flashback though. Franky asked a question which was answered and left Franky in tears and Robin happy. There's gotta be something. Plus flashbacks make chapters like this better
-
900 is infinite barrels of win. What race would he have been originally? I think that he was originally a giant, but I think Hogback may have taken some attributes from a Sea King to give him the horns and lower jawed fangs.
But, let's say he is unaltered, just zombified, (highly unlikely, given his stitches, but let's run with it), what race could possibly give him such size, as well as the horns and fangs? I doubt he's a fishman, nor does he look much like a giant. To me, he looks more than a little bit demonic. May he be a demonic entity, if indeed he was of a demonic nature, would it be completely ludacris to assume he may have a possible connection to the devil fruits?
4. Largely impotant, the translation has Brooke saying at the end of his encounter with Ryuuma "Its come back- right at my feet!!!" What happened there? Did his shadow come back?
In the Bludshock scanlation, he says "Come back beneath my feet" to Ryuuma, presumably he is telling Ryuuma in a threatening manner to give him back his shadow.
Anyway, who wants to bet that Perona, Absalom and Hogback will be taken out by Nami, Ussop, and Chopper? It seems so obvious…
-

Yeah, and I guess Zoro and Luffy are going to TAGG TEAM Moria!!! Who is wit me…hoot...HOOT!
-
Yeah, and I guess Zoro and Luffy are going to TAGG TEAM Moria!!! Who is wit me…hoot...HOOT!
How about this instead. The weak weak trio takes on mysterious 3. Oz crushes Moria with his foot. Then Franky, Robin, Sanji, Luffy and Zoro take on Oz. I really want to see the mugiwara's work together instead of just having seperate fights.
-
Yeah, and I guess Zoro and Luffy are going to TAGG TEAM Moria!!! Who is wit me…hoot...HOOT!
Yea.. no.
OZ looks suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuweet!
-
In the Bludshock scanlation, he says "Come back beneath my feet" to Ryuuma, presumably he is telling Ryuuma in a threatening manner to give him back his shadow.
In the immortal words of Fat Bastard, "Get in me belly!"
-
brook say come back to my feet to his shadow not ryuma
-
Damn, that was one fine chapter! Easily one of Oda's finest spreads to end a chapter. Oz is a frigin giant's giant! Luffy's shadow will f 'up Thriller Bark in no time with that body. Moria will probably regret this.
-
To the people complaining about the salt thing being too easy…
You have to remember that the salt has to get in the zombies mouth. You don't just sprinkle it on the body. It's the mouth...THE MOUTH!If they had time and the knowledge beforehand, Usopp could have made salt pellets, and have become the zombies worst nightmare. He would only need 900 pellets, and with the crew watching his back...Ah well, it's more fun this way.
