I have alot f experience with drawinng manga.
I can sketch and ink (Black and white)

      But then it hit me.

      What about graytones.

      They appear in many manga.

The most reccuring one would be Jojo's bizarre adventure.

They have tons of graytones in there, and many of the earlier works were done in the 80's, so they didnt use computers.

My parents told me they were just fine lines, and they're NOT!

Anyone have any ways to produce solid graytones without computers?

      It would be much appreciated….

You have to buy sheets of tone, and like cut and paste it on there or some shit.

I don't remember much about it other then it's hard to do, and much easier with a computer.

              just as they sound.

in manga, there is black white, and in some cases, GRAY

In the 80's and 90's there were a ton.

              Nowadays its pretty rare.

Read some Jojo or death note.

Some of the chapters are almost completely gray, with varying shades.

Well using Photoshop, adjusting the brightness/contrast can help.

it's called screentones. lots of manga use that, even today. in shonen jump, there's reborn, d.grayman, to love ru, mx0 and few others that are screentone heavy. one piece doesn't use much screentone because oda has said that he dislikes screentones, so he prefers to keep their use to a minimal.

shoujo manga, however, are very screentone heavy for effects. check out some shoujo stuff (nodame cantabile, for example), and you'll see how they use screentones for lots of effects.

I just recently got a app called Manga Stuido EX 3.0, it has over 3,000 screentones which you're able to overlap as well as modify right there in the program to get infinite possibilities.

As for doing them the old fashioned way, as warp said. There are sheets you buy.

                      Photoshop is easier.

I can just use black at a lower opacity.
