I just stayed up most of the night repainting my katana… god, I forgot how time consuming & painstaking that shizz is! My katana have been through 3 conventions, so there's considerable battle scars. Now I just have to repaint the sheath for Wadou & the swords are like brand new!

the manga version doesnt strike me as beeing fuzzy to be honest, also arent the sleeves supposed to be shorter? and perhaps a bit wider? (im not saying you have done a bad job or anything. i cant cosplay for my life)

Maybe Bushi has longer arms than his roomie? Then that would work out just fine. The fuzziness of the material made me LOL'ed.

@Gorlom: My roommate is 5'8" & chubby… I am 6'2" & semi-slender. My arms have about a 3-4 inch reach on his. Also, try finding a zebra pattern fabric that isn't fuzzy... it's damn near impossible. Also, thanks for your real thoughts on it... ^_^
And no, I'm not going to have the orange head thing... I'm out of money and it's FREAKING JUNE IN TEXAS!!!! It's like 90-something degrees out! I'll be dying with the robe alone... also, look closely in those manga panels. Where's the orange head wrap... :shocked:

Ah, the Zoro Alabasta robe. In my mind, that's got to be the most difficult to make of all One Piece cosplay pieces. And I have much respect for any cosplayer who can pull it off. So congrads to you, Bushi. That blew my mind.

Sweet!!! (nice work on the robe – especially the contrasting hems and edges. Your custom paint-job on the three swords rocks! -- especially the differing forges -- great attention to detail.
To be perfectly honest, I've always hated that orange head wrap, so I'm glad you're ditching it. hahah! It does however make a hot looking scarf, when draped loosely about the neck, so if you do ever give in to peer-pressure and create one, wear it THAT way instead.

I agree on the head wrap. When Monty did Alabasta Zoro, all he did was make an orange scarf. With out it, it would have looked like something was missing. But yeah, he didn't bother having it as a head wrap, and at one point when we couldn't find it, we just bought orange fabric, folded it, and it looked just fine XD!

Ahhh the Alabasta Pimp coat, takes me back. Yeah it came out nice and I actually prefer the Fuzzy animal print as opposed to when people copy the anime where it is less of an animal print and more of a diamond print. It always looks a lot nicer with the zebra print which is what I think Oda was really going for. I am sure you will make a great Zoro and I love the earings.

I was arguing with a friend of mine (she's in my cosplay group) about the fuzziness. She says that fur is a cosplay "faux pas" almost as bad as satin. I'm like "HELLO, IT'S A FUCKING ANIMAL PELT!!!!"
"But desert cloaks aren't furry & they flow freely" to which I replied "Yes, but once again, it's a ZEBRA skin, with fur attached". "But in the manga it's not furry…" DEAL WITH IT!!!
I love how it came out and am DAMN proud of it. I'm not in the know when it comes to uberleet, fashionable fabric stores... Hancock's & Joann's is all I know. This is IDENTICAL to the manga. When I make a costume, I try to make it look as close as physically possible... who cares if it's a tad fuzzy.
I APPLAUD YOU, MONTY! You get three swords up!

well, I would tend to think like your friend, but i haven't seen the costume in person eather. And if it looks good, it looks good. besides, your goal is not for it to be perfect, it's just to be recognised as what you are dressing up as, and having fun. So, with that point, if you want fuzzy, then go with fuzzy

I do like that you went for the fuzzy print, I didn't think anyone would dare to use something like that for this type of costume, but you'll pull it off well!

Hell it looks better than the people who spray paint the print onto a bathrobe…yes I have seen this done.
The only suggestion I would offer and it is something I wish I had done on my coat and might still fix at some point is. You might want to think about lining the inside in black. It would look a lot nicer in pics and if you look at some of the covers where this costume is colored you can see the inside and it is black. Other than that I am sure the costume is going to look great and even without, its a small detail that I think would add a lot to you pics. I know it bugs the hell out of me when I look at my old pics.

I agree with Seta and madgophermm5 – without the orange scarf it wouldn't have looked quite right (even though Zoro loses the scarf just before his fight w/ Mr.1). And yeah, if you've got the time and enthusiasm to do it, you might try lining your coat in black. If you use a soft cotton for the lining, it might make your coat a little bit more comfortable so you don't overheat so quickly in it. But it looks great as it is -- lining would just be icing on the cake.
All the time you spent repainting your swords was for good cause. In these pics -- especially that last one -- they really shine, just like the lacquered sheaths of authentic katana would. Yubashiri looks especially good in that last picture (the one of you holding the enormous axe-sword-whatever it is)
Fun choreography in the pics too. Was it Neko who posed everyone? I think I remember you saying something like that in the A-kon thread ... The battle with the two Tashigis is my favorite of the posed pictures (excellent Tashigi costumes both, by the way), but the battle with the three Sanjis is a close second. And the close-up of you grabbing the shirt of one of the Sanjis is classic as well. Perfect facial expressions and body language from both of you in that one.

Yeah, that was a good costume, and I liked his Skypiea costume as well, which I think was in the A-Kon thread, not this one. He's got the right body to cosplay Zoro, and the right hair too, so that was neat – but no matter how good all the rest of that looked, one thing kept distracting me ...
