Not to diss Final Fantasy IV or anything, but I really don't see the need to remake a game that is still on shelves. Sure, there were bugs, but those were fixed in the european version, so anyone who wants can import it. Where's my dragon quest 1-6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana 1-2, or any of the other not-forgotten-but-unremade square and enix classics?

Final fantasy IV… again
-
-
I dont care if I have this game on the GBA.. I heard about this on nintendo and still want it
Cecil, rydia, and Tellah look cool! I love to see how the 4 elements AND golvez and zeromus look like
You think V and VI will go DS too?
also..I cant read japanese, but does it show a release date? -
I agree that it seems way too soon after the last version (and isn't it going to be released for the PSP soon enough after I and II anyway?), but, god dammit if I'm not excited since FFIV was the first Final Fantasy game I played.
-
Awesome, I was waiting for this after III was announced.
-
If they plan to do something like this for FFV, then I'm a happy camper.
-
This is actually pretty cool. I have FFIII for the DS but haven't played it yet, but this looks nice. At the very least they're whoring out a game in the series besides VII/XII/XIII. Here's hoping Nomura doesn't redesign the cast to look something like Setzer in Kingdom Hearts II.
But you know what's infinitely more awesome than this news? The guy posing as the Jump Pirate.
-
Yeah, that guy's in just about every spread advertising a game or something.
-
But won't this be the fourth port/remake of this game? I'm all for remaking old classics (I'd really like to see the Dragon Quest series remade), but it just seems like a waste of time and money when there are four other versions of this game (including the original).
-
seems to be the third
SNES,GBA,Now DS -
seems to be the third
SNES,GBA,Now DSThere was also a remake for the WonderSwan Color. So that's four remakes/ports, and the original version.
-
No one bought Wonderswan so that one doesn't count
-
Square spent (wasted?) money on it, so it does count, whether people bought it or not. :P
-
Also the PS version in Chronicles.
-
Hot diggity damn! If we're going to go through the Final Fantasies again, I won't complain. That main reason being, of course, the possibility of Chrono Trigger being remade as such. And if that were the case… I would either shit myself or die in triumphant laughter (sounding like Kefka and Lavos' love child while doing so).
-
FFIV is probably my favorite after FFIX so bring it on
-
Um actually, this is the best thing SE has done since FFX.
Remaking a FF that doesn't suck? Ports are one thing, but a FULL remake? They officially have my interest.
This doesn't excuse their total lack of commitment to fans on the Square front (Enix is doing fine) but it's a way to start making up for it.
-
FUCKING RIGHT. This game gets no attention. I'll be there the day it comes out.
-
Incredible! Next to Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, this is probably my favorite RPG of all time! I can't wait!
(here's hoping those first two on my list get remade sometime soon…)
-
Well I hope they remake 5 & 6 like this too, it'd be cool. Already have 3 and I'm planning to get this one also.
-
Comparision shot.
+1 sales -
Huh, I wonder if they'll include the extras in the GBA remake (the extra dungeon). Come to think about it, I never beat the game… and the guy who I let borrow it already did...

Comparision shot.
+1 saleswow! Now only the names from the SNES version became the names for the DS.
OCtomammoth was Octomamm in SNES!
-
Well I hope they remake 5 & 6 like this too, it'd be cool.
Shhhh! Don't even say it. Then SE will realize people actually want it. Then there will be NO chance of it ever being made.
-
Even though we've seen FF 4 released several times now, and even though I bought the PS1 port and the gba port, I plan on getting this.
FFIV is like…..up with FFVI as the two best in the series. And like someone else said, it's nice to see them milking a game that ISN'T FF7 (we've got 11 other games to think about, and Cloud's face is one I've grown tired of looking at)
If they plan on doing this with 5 and 6 as well, that'd be amazing, and I have a feelin we'll see them soon enough. I'm really surprised that Square hasn't tried to push FFVI on us as much as the rest of the franchise (even 1 and 2 have seen more releases here than 6!) even though 6 is immensely popular and loved by fans.
I can't wait to see certain scenes in 3d, like the airship escaping from underground, the shipwreck with Leviathon, the destruction of Rydia's home, the spoony bard scene!!!!!
And look, Ultros!
-
Hell, if they keep making them I'll keep buying them. I liked the FFIII remake for the DS, though I never played the original obviously. I really liked the look and feel of it, so I was hoping they'd do it with the other early generation games.
-
I played the PS port, and I have to say that game's pretty damn impressive. It's not as good as VI IMO, but it's still beyond great. A 3D re-make is something I thought Square-Enix would never do, but they went there. Like some people already mentioned, I too hope for a re-make of Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger. Seeing as SE is on a re-make rampage for the DS and PSP, it's not entirely impossible.
-
If this gets released in English, u bet I'll get it, just look at the Octomammoth!
-
I hope they leave in some features they did on the GBA port (or so I heard, I never got it)
Like being able to change party members, and get old party members back.
And Tellah being brought back to life is mandatory, I think
-
^You forgot keeping the line, 'Spoony Bard'.
-
@Freeman-12:
^You forgot keeping the line, 'Spoony Bard'.
I was wondering when someone would bring that up.

Pretty much how I feel.
-
I didn't get really far playing the PS version, so most of the game should be new to me. Still, it'll be great to see 3D versions of chibi characters, and hearing what they do to improve the background music.
I'll shit a brick if SE decides to do a re-make of V.
-
Man, after III I was hoping they'd remake IV, V, and VI for the DS as well. This is excellent news, can't wait for it to come out.
Spoony bard in 3D will be epic.
-
Shhhh! Don't even say it. Then SE will realize people actually want it. Then there will be NO chance of it ever being made.
That explain why there hasn't been a new Actrasier? :silly:
-
Wow, Cecil looks terrible.
Still looking forward to this, FFIV's my second favourite after VI.
-
Sooo there was supposedly a big CG cutscene trailer for the game at the Square-Enix Party last weekend. I have no idea how long it'll be until it's put on the internet by SE or some guy who managed to sneak a camera into the showroom, though. I hope there'll be more than just an opening CGI in it, unlike the III remake.
-
That explain why there hasn't been a new Actrasier? :silly:
Nah, that's because the taste of Actraiser 2 is still in everyone's mouths. ^O^
-
Godly… I can't wait for this...

I assume the same thing happened with Chrono Cross?
-

Looks like it isn't just going to be the original game with 3D graphics.
-

Didn't stop other companies from releasing sequels to crappy games (though I've never gotten to play the second game). Third time's the charm, right?
-
Neu! scan
!
-
cool scan! Rosa,Cecil(or is the one with the dragon head Kain?) and Rydia look cool.. who the guy sitting up by the DS sign?
-
Wow, the graphics are looking pretty tight. The Dark Knight Cecil still looks a bit like a dominatrix, though.
-
Not gonna buy this. If I want to play FF4 on my DS, I'll pop in the GBA cart. FF3 remake looked and played like shit and this doesn't look any better.
-
Really? I haven't bought a single DS game during this year but I thought I might lay my hands on that remake some of these days. I guess not then.
And this remake, well, I haven't completed other FF games beside VII and VIII (and soon VI) so… scans looks cool?
-
The FF3 port played like shit partially because they didn't do a whole lot to improve on the clunky gameplay of the original. They did add in a few dumb "innovations," like having severely reduced stats for 10 or so battles after changing jobs.
But I loved the way FF4 played before and 'm looking forward to this. It's one of my favorites in the series.
-
The FFIII remake was underwhelming gameplay-wise because at its core it was just a straightforward Famicom RPG. It looks like they're actually expanding on a lot of stuff this time around. Don't know how it looked like shit though; it was a big achievement on the DS and this looks to improve upon it.
I just noticed that the remake's logo has Golbez instead of Kain. If the new content is going to expand on him then I'll be very happy.
-
The DS is simply not capable of good 3D graphics. I would much rather have nice 2D graphics than shitty 3D graphics. The game build itself was also sluggish and clunky. Coming after I had just played 1-2 GBA (which were extremely smooth and fast), the 3 remake was slow and awkward. The second screen was basically wasted. 4 has better gameplay than 3 for sure, but in terms of the presentation I don't see any reason to bother with the upgrade, for the same reason that I didn't think there was any point in buying the 1 and 2 ports on the PSP. Why bother?
