Has anyone here played Rogue Galaxy yet? I got it yesterday and haven't had the chance to play it. I've seen mostly positive reviews, and of course, you can't go wrong with Space Pirates and a 17 year old pirate boy and his dreams of exploring the galaxy (Sound familiar?). Without spoiling anything, can anyone who has played this give their opinion of it?
Rogue Galaxy?

I've been wanting to get this, I haven't really heard anything about it but it looks great.
-
I got it like 2 months ago, but I'm not far at all (been too busy). It seems pretty awesome so far, though.
-
This game proves that the PS2 still had life in it.
It's a really great game with a solid cast of characters. Also, it's gorgeous to look at, sometimes I'll take my ship to the Rose Nebula and just stand around. (It's a place in space where NOTHING happens, but you can go out on the deck of your ship and look at the space and it's very pretty)
Also, the real time battle system works very well. The number of random battles you enounter can be tiring at times but it's nothing to complain about.
And the story is no award winner for originality, it's got all the typical anime/shonen/Japanese RPG story elements to make the player happy but at the same time it's got enough original elements to keep things interesting.
To be honest, this game reminds me ALOT of Disney's Treasure Planet…....only this one is actually good.
-
So far it vagyely reminds me of Skies of Arcadia, which isn't a bad thing by any means.
When I last played, I killed some frog thing on oogabooga planet. And the girl with the arrows looks like she'll join later.
-
Got it, beat it. But there's so much stuff in it. Customization alone is huge as hell. Great game though. All I need to do is finish the Ghost Ship: Extreme one more time to get another Royal Fruit. Need one more Dark Emperor for that insect thing.
-
Its a great game, but chapter 8 and 12 are looooooooooooooooong. And sometimes the storytelling just plain blows, but man the final battle is EPIC.
-
Rented it yesterday. Played it all morning, 8 hours in at the Rosencaster boss fight. I need to level some more.
This game is fricken awesome thus far, one of the best games I've played. (So far, at least.)
-
Yeah, I just beat it a week ago. The last boss was a DEM, really… they could've done better with that. But yeah, I really enjoyed it.
Currently, I'm working on maxing everything out and getting the Ghost Ship Extreme done. The bestiary is going to be a pain in the ass to max out...
-
Good game. Lame story/characters (it kind of reminds me of the 3rd Shadow Hearts game) but the graphics and design are great, and I love games with a hundred different facets to the gameplay. Still maxing out my best weapons for all characters before I fight the final boss… Have cleared out all the regular-game bestiary, revelation flow, bounties, etc. Also, I have been waiting all my life to play a game with a gay robot named Steve.
-
… hahah a gay robot? as in happy? because i cant see how a robot can be homosexual...

Let's just say Steve was made to be way too stereotypical. His English VA even makes him sound like C3PO. And he loves his creator a bit too much (and vice versa)… He also has this move where he smacks his ass.
One thing in particular that was amazing was the attention to background detail. On Alistia in Particular, the backgrounds were just amazing. I'd just take a moment to swivel the camera around and take a look. And the music was top-notch, though the VA was lacking. My ears bled everytime Kisala had an emotional moment, her voice actor was kind of bad.
However, Steven Jay Blum was top notch, as always.
-
@Fire Fist:

Exactly! Haven't you guys seen the Simpsons episode with the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con?
"Plus, tag-team robot wrestling! It's the mighty robots of Battlestar Galactica, versus the gay robots of Star Wars!"
A quick shot of C3PO getting his head pounded by a Battlestar Galactica robot is shown; as the robot pleads for help from R2D2, the wheeled robot makes a few characteristic noises of refusal, and is accordingly cursed in a rather effeminate way -
One of my friends keeps talking about this game, and it seems like it might be the kind of game I like. So I'll probably get it eventually.
Lame story/characters (it kind of reminds me of the 3rd Shadow Hearts game)
I thought Frank was cool though. Personally, I liked Shadow Hearts 3 a lot, although I'm aware that many others don't feel the same way. (It might have something to do with the fact that it was the first one I played though, so I don't see it in the same way as the older fans.) Not trying to derail the topic or anything, but I at least have to mention how Frank made me laugh out loud several times.
-
Great game and worth getting. Too bad I'm coped up with my Revo to play this gem.
-
If you haven't already, CK, you should really play Shadow Hearts: Covenant. If you liked Frank, you'll love Joachim. His weapons and mannerisms were pretty much what Frank was based on.
SH3 was fun, but I have to agree with Stephen about "lame characters." I loved Frank, Mao, and Natan (GUN FU mixed with his straight bluntness), but most everyone else could go to hell (honestly, I want to say I liked Ricardo, but his goofy abilities and SEAN SCHEMMEL prevent me from doing so). Shania was pretty much one of the most bland, worthless characters ever. Why did this game need two injuns anyway?!
The villains and story were also crappy as well. You go from killing Rasputin (SH2) to fighting The Penguin and his two mallrat bodyguards, and preventing them from filling the world with "bad feelings."
However, Frank's, Mao's, and the He-Man Sushi sidequests were awesome.
ANYWAY, I still need to pick this game back up. I'm still in the middle of the jungle, after beating the electro-frog. Maybe when I'm done tying up loose ends in .hack//GU vol 2, I'll get back on it. Oh, and I like the characters so far (well, Steve and Simon in particular).

Yeah, I still need to get that game, but haven't gotten around to it.

I liked Frank, Natan, Mao, and Ricardo. I thought Johnny was okay for a main character (since I'm usually not a fan of many rpg main characters). He wasn't a favorite of mine, but at least I didn't dislike him a whole lot.
One thing that I liked was the setting. I thought it was pretty unique for an rpg, and I liked being in a time period with all the old style gangsters and that stuff. Oh, and the gameplay itself was fun too, and I liked the sidequests.
-
I loved the 1920's setting. The 1910's setting of SH2 was great as well.
-
I plan on getting this game eventually. I need a real-time RPG to add to my collection so this would make a nice addition.
@Carter: Is that .Hack/GU any good? I plan to buy that too.
-
Personally I really like .hack//GU, but I'm a huge fan of the franchise so I'm probably not the best person to ask.
-

I saw a review of it on TV and I was very impressed with it. Looks like my type of RPG and I like the premise of an MMORPG that's not really an MMORPG. Besides, I trust your judgement. But anyways, I'll probably ask you more about it later in another thread.
So, on with the topic
-
I've considered this game too, but for all it's praise it depends on if it's anything like Dark Chronicle.
If it is, then no way.
No story/likeable characters/exiting world/imaginitive battle system, and they call it an RPG?So, any of you guys have played both?
-
I played both, Daz. I was totally engrossed in RG but DC bored me to death…well, the fighting's 100x better and more fun in RG, and the chars are much much better(even though they aren't spectacular). Tons of sidequests, abd the planets are really fascinating and diverse...although dungeons can be a littl repetitive (Mother's lair epecially...)
I say try it, you won't be disappointed.
Regarding the last fight: KInda DEM, but you have to wonder what the hell "those who came later" were doing since the last time you saw them....and the ending is all kinds of stupid. What a letdown.
-
I am DL it's OST as I type.
…and I FINALLY actually managed to understand the fucking Factory after having spent 30 mins to make an item damn fuck iT!
Almost done with the Quarries and I managed to get most of the characters' strongest weapons.
One thing I REALLY hate is the Barrier Break Shot weapon, I mean seriously if my PS2 weren't as old as Jesus I'd be switching characters and weapons without having to wait for the whole loading thing. -
Got this game on Saturday, and I just finished chapter 12. Seriously, this game is addicting. For me, it's like a mix of .hack, Dark Cloud, and Star Ocean.
-
I'm just about ready to take on Mother… Finished all the monster reqs for the regular game, finished all the bounties, #1 in the hunter ranks, all the factory items, all the rare items, got all the unique swords for Jaster but haven't mastered every one yet, and got most of the characters best equipment.
-
Final fight's kind of a letdown, but the Ghost Ship Extreme is fun (albeit a bit too long). Took me about eight hours to get up all 100 floors. The final boss is tough, too. But the Royal Fruit totally makes it worth it. the Dark Emperor is NECESSARY to win the S-class Insector Tournament. And the S-Class Tournament Mark 2 is ridiculous.
-
I traded this game away before I could beat it can anyone tell me the ending.I've played up to chapter 11

Wow, that Avatar is the scariest thing ever. Photo-realistic Usopp…
Anyway, here's the ending:
! After they get to Mariglenn, they get attacked by a swarm of beasts, so they have to use "The Big Guns", a giant cannon on the bow, to blow away the monsters. Then these robots that look like Ragnar come and escort them to the castle. The Queen, Kisala's mother, explains that Mother is the source of all rune and must be defeated. They go through the forest and fight a giant lion boss, which turns out to be Kisala's father, and he explains you need Drigellum, the power from one's heart, to defeat Mother. Then he dies, and the group goes into Gulza Sanctum, where they gather the Drigellums, who are forged into a sword by the Chancellor. After that, they go through Mother's Liar and fight Mother. Jaster goes Millenium King again, and it turns out that Mother was his former court Magician, Ezarbella. Round 2 happens, Jaster splits her in half, and then when everything seems over, Valkog and crew comes along and they get sucked into the rune and become some freakish super-ship. Everyone fights it and the drigellum of all the people on Mariglenn manifests, making the ultimate sword. They defeat the ship and it sinks into the lava.
! Then, everyone leaves the ship and they take Kisala to Mariglenn, which is now in present time, and they crown her princess. They leave, and then it's down to Jaster, Dorgengoa, and Zegram. They plot a scheme to kidnap Kisala, and then Jaster has an epilogue speech, which says, "That day became known as the biggest theft the Dorgengoa Pirates ever pulled. They were never seen again." And the game ends. -
thanks
generic just like I thought
-
Took out Mother tonight and now I'm working on the Ghost Ship. FFA is right, the last battle is kind of bullshit. 10 un-save-able battles in a row and 8 of those being solo in a game like RG where you have very low max HP and thus always have a danger of dying suddenly is pretty much fucked.
On the other hand, all of those fights were really easy.
-
Wait till you get to the Ghost Ship: Extreme. Everything is so overpowered there, and it takes so long to finish sincee there's 100 floors. Every 30 levels there's shops where you can buy healing items and such. Though you still have to conserve because most things there do alot of damage. Like "Fire Fist" said though, the Royal Fruit is worth it since it enables you to get the strongest insectron, Dark Emperor. The final guy's "White whatever its called" it's hard as hell to beat without one.
-
I'm actually at the final battles of the game and with Jaster at Lvl. 65 or such, but damn is his battle retarded!
I need to finish that shit, get into the Ghost SHip and get some other stuff finished =_=.
