The underrated characters thread(Spoilers beware)

Well I am bored right now, and since Carter was too lazy to make one, I'll make one.

So this is pretty much the total opposite of the overrated characters thread (NO SHIT!).

I can think of a couple characters, who come to mind:

Matsuda (Death Note): Sure this guy was an idiot, but he doesn't seem to get enough credit with the fans. He was a definite help at the end of the series.

Aizawa (Death note): I have always liked this guy, and a lot of people really haven't noticed. He really helped towards the end of the series also.

Kakyoin (Jojo's bizarre adventure): Once again, he really doesn't seem to get noticed by anyone, but was a huge help in the end of part 3.

Enel: A lot of people only think of him as an overpowered person with an unbeatable devil fruit (except in Luffy's case of course), but he was a pretty brilliant fighter.

Sensui: Man this guy was awesome, and barely gets any credit.

So yeah, Who do you think is underrated?

One Piece: Every character from the Skypiea arc (just about).

especially Joker and Domon from FoR, and the cast of G Gundam

and I don't include JJBA is because its mostly cult following in the online communities

Dr. Kenzo Tenma.

Inspector Runge: This mother fucker is the closest to pimp that a balding, logically-obsessive detective can get.

Roy Revant: Excellent 'father figure archetype' that doesn't have cliché interactions with the female protagonist; he really does hate her for half of the series.

Fukurou & Kumadori: The two most creative CP9 [design-wise], yet most people write them off and only blabber on about Lucci, Kaku, and Jyabura.

Gedatsu: Probably one of the most unique characters, if not the most unique, in One Piece. It's a shame that he had such a small role in the plot, but he at least had his own Cover Story.

Gally from Gunnm. Beautiful design, awesome personality and background, kickass fighting abilities, and she's the heroine of her manga without being a mindless bipedal pair of tits. Yet I've probably met two people online who knew who she was.

Buggy from One Piece. Too often disregarded as just a buffoon. Well he is a buffoon, but also much more.

The entire Bastard!! cast. DS of course, but Abigail and Gara are also pure awesomeness.

Calgara and Norland from one piece. People seem to hate everything about that flashback, while I find it was one of my favorite parts of the series. I was delighted to see Calgara make an appearance in the wii game.

Tousen from Bleach. You always here fancries for Aizen and Gin, but Tousen seems to have NO fanbase, despite taking friggen Grimmjaws arm.

Vaccum chick from Ryoudan in hunter. Idk why, but I really like this character and her ability.

and I disagree with the G gundam statement. The only people who didn't like G gundam, were the hardcore gundam fans. If you ask people what their favorite gundam series was on naruto and dbz boards, 9/10 people say g gundam.

T-Bone. In a world of One Piece naval officers that are corrupt or overly serious, it was nice to get a breath of fresh air. Alas, he's overlooked by longer lasting opponents.

It's not about being interesting, it's about being underrated. Goku is only really stereotyped when you fail to consider he invented the damned stereotypes. He deserves much more credit than he gets.

In speaking of Dragonball:

MR. SATAN (don't care how damn popular he is, it's not enough)
Mr. Boo (Almost the entire Boo saga is completely disregarded by some people, and this guy gets thrown out with the trash)

Yu Yu Hakusho:

Kuwabara (only character I ever really liked in that series, really, yet completely ignored by fans)

Uh-huh, but I don't think Goku is underrated. He's right where he should be.

It's all about what underrated means. So Goku doesn't get enough credit as he deserves? Tell me why, because I don't see any reasons to say he isn't rated right where he belongs.

There's got to be hungry, naive, dim-witted powerhouses that predate Goku. But I'll wait for Greg to confirm or deny my claim.

Oh, and almost all characters from Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo are underrated. In the U.S. anime fandom that is.

I agree with most of the One Piece characters mentioned

I don't know if its just me, but I've noticed the post-eclipse Berserk group Guts travels with gets pretty underrated because they don't measure up the the Band of the Hawk characters or such.

Everyone Strawhat who isn't Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. If these three were on such a pedestal, then the Luffy and Usopp fight wouldn't have happened like it did, nor would Sanji beat Luffy constantly, even jokingly. It's my personal opinion, but I think this crew is more equal then that.

Krillien. Goku has overcome countless challenges, trained to levels that no human can possibly dream of, and has fought the strongest fighters across the galaxy. Yet, Krillien sleeps with the hottest blonde woman in the series every night. Who's the real winner here? (jk)

Agreed with Tenma, Runge and Fukurou. Tenma is great, Runge is brilliant and I really enjoyed watching Fukurou vs Franky. That was awesome and hilarious.

Bellemere-san - Has gotta be hands down the baddest chick in OP. Loved everything about her.
Funkfreed - Can you even call it a character? But it's quite unique and appeals to me more than Mr. 4's weapon.

Nina - Felt Ayu got all the attention although personally I thought Nina was a better character

Wolf's Rain
Hubb - Appears rather wimpish and spineless but in the end, comes off as a real, true man.
Quent - Initially comes off as a bad guy, but eventually you see much more than that.

Was going to mention him, but I wasn't familiar enough with the Grayman Fanbase to know how popular he was.

He was actually one of my favorites personally, so I didn't know how the rest of the fanbase felt.

Despite attempts from the author himself to pull the story away from him, it always came back to him.

Now…when you have a forum of DB fans, it's easy to discuss within DB who is most 'underated'. But in talking about all Japanese animated series in the US, when you consider the kind of crap heaped on DB these days, that means it falls on the head of that which embodies the series, Goku.

I'm aware that even seeing a picture of him will throw so-called fans into a shit-storm of complaining and whining, not wanting anything to do with the series.

Therefore, as the poster boy for a series that constantly gets shat on, Goku.

It's hard not to feel sorry for him. Besides, Aerosmith was a great help for the group.

Funny, DB still has notable respect and a loyal fandom here, and possibly it has in the whole Latin America as well. We even got a deluxe reprint of the manga recently.

Speaking in more underrated anime/manga characters, what about most of Negima cast. People rarely mention them.

Gaara. He gets lumped with Neji for being a turn-coat. ALL his fights are good, the plot always shifts when he's around, and the guy is very interesting.

Rat-Trap from Beast-Wars and Beast-Wars in general. Recently, however, the show has garnered a small but loyal fanboys on youtube.
