There's some kind of festival here in the Philippines where crucifixion is for real. Has any of you ever heard of this before.
People say they do those things for thanksgiving and for asking favors from GOD. A lot think it's B.S…But the only problem is that the things they ask come to reality. Cancers disappearing in an instant. etc.
Crucifixion

Evidence of vanishing cancer please.
-
Roman BDSM.
How I love the Chaser's War on Everything.
-
So long as you take the person down before they asphyxiate, crucifixion is just a very, Very painful means of torture. Of course, there is the question of 'How to get them down without breaking their neck?' Well, I'm sure they have some method; they've been doing this for decades, from what I understood.

People say that it just a tourist attraction thing right now. But the government hasn't really banned the thing yet.
I don't think I've had any evidence from the cancer disappearing, just from what I heard on some newscasters and read on some newspapaers. I dunno, the thing's pretty weird if you ask me. It's even against my will for people to do that. But the problem is that people who have been doing these things, can we say, are proud of it.

I bet it's all Buddha's doing.
He's a sneaky bastard.
-
I liked it more when you talked about boobs.

Quick opinion: if people are really "crucifying" themselves to get miracles from God, they are not only missing the point big time but also in a sense spitting on Jesus's sacrifice.
But if you just "heard" about this, how do you even know it's not some crazy rumor?
-
There's been video of it, I can't remember where I found the link though.
Edit: Okay, actually I can. Here, news article and video.
-
ya, I heard about this practice on tv a long time ago. Not sure what to say about it. I agree with cosmic's words, but also, it is their choise and belief, and they are only hurting themselves in the end.
And Zephos, I dun wanna hear about that either. :P
-
-
they better believe in Jah. "oh great rastafarai, i will smoke that joint to show you how much i want my desease to heal". far better and less painful.
-
Yes I have heard of this crucifixion festival. They don't only crucify themselfs, they will also whip themselves, wear a crown of thorns etc. It is a very dramactic display of faith and devoution.
-
oh man, Crucifiction is a lame way to kill yourself tho, no matter what happens…you can never hammer in that last nail...
Anyways, seems like a weird festival, then again, people have bondage meetings and stuff, so it hardly suprises me.
-
Well at least it's in their will. I think there's a deeper meaning to why they do the crucifying stuff besides asking God for help. Some people say it's for honoring Jesus' sacrifice.

Corrected.

In my opinion, it's not really neccessary and somewhat ass-kissing.
And this whole thing may start a competition with people crucifying themselves to ask for help, then some other people start burning themselves for help from God until it's a giant self-punishment competition and no one will remember what they were asking for.

By hurting yourself?
How about doing poverty work and all the other stuff Jesus liked doing aside from dying. -
some people like to be different…. :P
-
I'm worried that emos might gain the cure for cancer.
-
Perhaps I'm on the minority here but if it gives them a spiritual satisfaction then I'm casually okey with it. Besides if I recall correctly it's more or less a half arsed version of real crucifixion anyway.
-
well, real crucifixion, is nailing through the wrists, cause if you were to nail through the hands, it would not suport the bodies weight, and the person would fall. But, these people ARE nailed through the hands, and supported on the cross with rope tied to their arms.
At least that's what I remember hearing.
-
Hmmm..Maybe it's a portrayal about Jesus and his sacrifice. I've never thought of it as an insult about Jesus' sacrifice before.
But then again the crucifixion thingy is kinda painful if you'd ask me. Most guys who do those things were ex-convicts that were transformed. So maybe they just love THE GUY too much that they want it to hurt. -
Pedophile priest crucifixion! (I need to stop listening to Christopher Titus). As soon as we know a priest has been laying his hands on a little boy; hammer, clank, clank! And the churches of America are taken a little more seriously.
-
Or they become a contradiction, but alright.
-
I think hurting youself, like whipping as some preists or more estranged sects do, is okay as long as it's not life threatening. It's a sign of humility yes, but it's also a reminder of what Christ went through.
Personally, I'm fine the way I am thx.
-
What kinda gets me is that God will listen to the self-harm people more than me.

Also, it could be seen in the same light as an elvis impersonator. Not as flattering as it seems.
i'm just pointing out that perspective though. I'm non jugmental over this, since I can see it from both sides. As long as I don't have to do it.
-
Kinda scary ifyou'd ask me. If I'm bored I might trydoing it.
-
I learned this when I was about 9 a few years ago when I was still living in Manila. Freaked me out.

From the Encyclopedia of Heresies and Heretics:
"Flagellant Sects**:** Medieval flagellants–persons who whipped themselves and one another in penance for their or a community's sins--occasionally formed groups that attracted the church's condemnation, even though flagellation was a permitted form of monastic discipline, either self-imposed or as punishment. Occasional outbreaks of group flagellation occurred among medieval laypeople during times of high social stress. One began in the mid-thirteenth century in Italy, following the plague of 1259; the Umbrian hermit Raniero Fasani has been credited with organizing processions of disciplinati who whipped themselves in public. The practice of self-flagellation spread to other countries, but was prohibited by the church in 1261…."
The article goes on for about another page and a half. I'm a little too tired to type it all up right now, but if anyone is interested in seeing the full quotation, just pm me.

They whipped themselves to get rid of plague.
Which did a fat lot of good when they died.

yeah. they're nailed through hands only.
the tradition isn't really the crucifixion. i hope someone mentioned that already. but a re-enactment of Christ's life. we called it 'Senakulo' here. so it is not really as barbaric as you guys might think. it's just like watching a role play, pg-13.
but there is this one practice where people whipped themselves while walking towards i don't know where. i've seen a lot of them in Pampanga. it's not a good sight. >.<
