SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS

I looked for a topic but couldn't find one.

Anyway, this game is coming out in the U.S. tomorrow I think. I don't think I can get to the store tomorrow though, so I probably won't get the game until later.

I really liked the original for the Neo-Geo Pocket Color. I think it was probably one of my most played games of all time. I played it a whole lot back when it was new.

So, is anyone else getting the new one?

Oh, and this topic can be for strategies/decks and stuff when the game finally comes out.

Yeah, that seems kind of disappointing. I never use wifi (never bothered reading the thing about how to set it up) so I didn't even pay attention to that. But that does seem like a missed opportunity.

I was about to buy Pokemon Diamond yesterday, but I saw the pre-order box for Card Fighters (didn't even know it was coming out yet), so I decided to wait and decide before I bought either one.

Yeah, I've already heard about the glitch. I already bought the game before I read about it though.

I'm going to keep playing the copy I have though and hope that the glitch will be fixed somehow. Maybe if they make any un-glitched copies I could trade my cards over. I know there was a glitch with the DS Bubble Bobble game that made it so you couldn't finish the game, but fixed copies were released later.

As for the game itself, I don't like it as much as the original (don't really have time to explain my reasons right now, but I will later). Most people have a problem with the translation, but I honestly don't think it's bad enough to be worthy of mention.

However, the glitch is the major problem here, as the game itself is actually pretty decent (just not as good as the original - but it's still addictive and fun to collect the cards).

Back when the Neo-Geo Pocket Color was still around, I heard nothing but positive things about the original from my NGPC-owning friends.

I am definitely interested in getting this (along with a DS) but I'll wait until they fix the glitch.

Well, most of the people who liked the original don't seem to be liking this one that much. Personally, I don't think it's all that bad, but there are some things I've been disappointed about.

-The "Force" thing. It's like mana in Magic the Gathering and stuff. I thought the old one was cool because you didn't really have to deal with any kind of cost system to bring characters out. It makes the game play a lot slower than the original one.

-You can't move around like in an RPG anymore. Instead, you just select locations to move your character to. One of my favorite things about the original one was how you could explore places and find secrets (like the secret room in Resident Evil Mansion).

-The back-up/support system is different. In the original, it was cool because you could use related character cards as "back-ups" that increased the BP of your cards. There is a similar thing in the new one, but it's just not as cool. You just back-up cards of the same trait or something (like "yellow" characters with other "yellow" characters I think). In the original, I liked it because the back-up characters were always related in some way. Like Eiji and Zantetsu could back up each other because they were from the same ninja clan and stuff. You also had to experiment to find them all out (because some had question marks listed as back-up that would fill in after you figured it out). Like, SNK's Lee Pai Long could be backed up by Capcom's Vega/Balrog because they both wore claws. I just thought it was a cool extra touch for the fans. It seems that a lot of the small things like that are gone in the new one (when deciding who goes first, it just shows dice rolling animation - in the orginal it showed the Ump from Samurai Shodown point his flag to whoever goes first).

I do like the selection of cards in the new one though. There's a lot of characters that I'm glad got cards.

Of course, the glitch is still the main complaint I have.

How's the game's 'english'?

I don't get why everyone is complaining about the translation. I mean, it's not like the original Card Fighters had a great translation either. What were the cards "Tooptadon" and "Dregs" supposed to be anyway? And at least this new one leaves in the character biographies for the cards (they were too lazy to translate them in the NGPC one, so they just cut them out). The character biographies are pretty amusing to read.

I've noticed some grammar mistakes, but it's not like all out Engrish or anything. But then again, I haven't played it that much because of 1. exams, and 2. the glitch.

And there's still no word about the glitch from SNK. Kind of disappointing, because the game is actually pretty fun despite the flaws.

Well, SNK Playmore USA has said they will replace the defected copies.

But I've just been playing the Neo-Geo Pocket Color one instead. I finally got some of the really hard to get cards like Jin (can only get randomly from a trade machine) and Chizuru (can only get randomly from Versus mode with a friend).

I might consider getting into the NGPC game again, got any tips?
Also will purchase my 'non-defect' copy by Autumn just to be safe.

Well, my current deck is based around cards like Akuma, Yashiro, and Yamazaki. Akuma can KO a character, Yashiro can send a character back to the hand, and Yamazaki can freeze a character. I have three of each, so as long as I can go first I can usually win in 2-3 turns. I have three Krausers and two Zero Akumas (but still only one Geese). If I get to put one of those big guys out, then opponent puts someone out, then I put out Akuma, Yashiro, or Yamazaki, I can get a free hit in early on. Of course it has taken a long time to build a deck like this (110 hours or so is what my file says…it was already around 80 hours when I started it back up a week ago after not playing it for maybe five years).

As for good cards early on...well, I like Duck King and Saisyu for good C cards. I remember my old deck used direct damage cards like Grenade too.

I got an e-mail yesterday saying they are finally doing the recall for glitched carts. I'm going to send mine in soon. Too bad I'll lose my progress, but I wasn't very far anyway (I quit playing way back when I found out my game was glitched).

I've still been playing the NGPC version though (among other NGPC games). That was such a good system.
