Toei has no excuse for not giving FUNi the HD widescreen episodes.

I'm positive we'll see them on DVD, but for Cartoon Network, it's up in the air. Some shows on CN air in widescreen.

Wow really? Meh, I only saw those filers once long ago. Didn't bother rewatching them. Anyway I guess there are still some redubs of the past arcs. Oh and about the DVD before EL thing. Its very much true but there might be some people who can't afford the DVDs so I guess these fillers will be a small mercy on them^^

That's actually a great idea to put the earlier episodes on jet stream. Though they would probably be edited.

There's actually been quite a demand for "One Piece" on Toonami Jetstream, not just from the typical CN viewer, but from the fans who want an uncut dub. You can see it in some of the Toonami Jetstream comments and in the survey they did last year. Yes, it would still be edited, but if you consider unedited and uncut two different things, than a FUNi redub on TJ would technically be uncut.

Bobobo, DBZ, One Piece, and maybe one or two new shows . . . Toonami Jetstream could use some non-CN/VIZ shows, and those ones I just mentioned (especially what we're mainly discussing on this site) are the best ones to start with.

Well, One Piece was called "The next DBZ" from early on, and from the history of the show compared to DBZ, it's matching up almost perfectly. Licensed by shitty company, edited shittily, licence revoked from shitty company by Toei, FUNimation gets license. Next step is "show becomes hugely successful." I have no doubt that OP will do better in the upcoming years, especially as it goes on. We just have to give it a while.

It's not exactly a perfect correlation - OP has competition from Bleach and Naruto, it's not exactly "innovative" like DBZ, and most of all, it's got the smallest internet fanbase of any mainstream titles.

Most likely, it'll be more successful than Conan was or while it was in 4Kids' hands, but it won't touch Bleach, let alone Naruto or Death Note. OP will forever be in the shadow of those other titles.

From my experience, those are usually the two main reasons. =/ Some people think the artwork is too terrible to give it a chance.

To be honest I bet that one reason that One Piece does not have a lot of English internet sites is because of the 4Kids dub. I have seen a lot of sites that are not English for One Piece. I think that with a new dub One Piece will reach more people.

4kids dub was definitely a factor on why it took me a while before i start watching it…

i started from around zoro vs mihawk in the 4kids dub...thought it was cool, kept watching...but finally stopped when i heard the "p-ew man"...and the other cheesy puns

then a year later, i read the top anime list from animenewsnetwork...i found out that One Piece is pretty high ranked...so i tried it and got hooked

IMO, the artwork was weird, but unique , its actually one of the reason why i watch one piece

You might think so, but the average and median anime viewer seems to disagree. I've noticed that most of the people who like OP don't have "general" tastes, they've got a lot of diverse favourites and like OP because it's a blend of different and familiar.

The anime newbie hates OP, which is a permanent problem we won't be able to overcome.

Number one reason is design. The second reason is the anime's "serious" style that doesn't mesh well with the design. Thirdly, the humour is hard to get into, and unless people are familiar with Kenshin they won't like the weird fights as much as Naruto.

Because let's face it, most OP fans have seen DB and Kenshin and OP uses ideas from both of those to great effect - Naruto and Bleach are DBZ copypasta. Kenshin fans liked Kenshin because it had a Japanese setting and was protrayed as "realistic", not necessarily because of the fights.

If people liked Kenshin's fights, and DB's adventure, they like OP. That's a pretty narrow pool of people.

For a while I didn't really get how people didn't pick up the series because of the art style, because when I first checked it out I could definitely see the "Dragonball" influence, and look how popular that series turned out in America. I personally never really found the visuals "weird" unless the artist purposely wanted to make a certain story scene weird. I just thought it looked like a colorful adventure cartoon.

You know, this has probably been asked before, but I know people have asked what the fate of "One Piece" will be in the U.K. and Australia. What about Canada? It pretty much stopped running when 4Kids gave up on production, and they didn't get very far in the episodes. I don't even think they got to the ending of the Arlong arc. If FUNi and Toei are interested in re-entering the series in Canada, then I think that's another good reason they should start redubbing the earlier episodes once they finish the new episodes Cartoon Network has ordered.

Something I really don't get is why people say something like this. It's almost like an attempt to undermine a generalization, but the admission of being non-standard is inherently self-defeatist. :wassat:

Of course there will be exceptions - I'm one of them, OP was my second manga afterall. But I'm not the average Joe Schmo English-speaking casual anime viewer (a misnomer really, since there's no such thing as a casual anime viewer).

YTV is trying to break off of being a letch from CN/AS, even if it'll incur a loss for them (GSD). It's an uncertain future.

They called him Sirkees in Pirate's Carnival. The bit with Mantra is good, hopefully G. Zass will be change into something less… dumb. Keep giving us the good news, man, and keep up the good work!

I like to think that the fans helped (I gave a whole folder of things), basically anyone who talked to FUNi at conventions.. I think that way because then maybe it does pay off talking to FUNi because they listen and will try their best.

I don't get the whole need to do G.Zass Burgess. When I first went through the series, my immediate thought was Hay-Seuss (the Spanish style pronunciation). Of course, that could be from living in the Southwest, where seeing someone named that is not odd.

Yes, she'd be absolutely perfect. I hope Vic Mignoga gets a big part too, I'm a big fan of his work. I think that he shows just the right amount of emotion to be Usopp (the scene when he challenges Luffy for Merry comes to mind)

Vic comes to mind for me because of his singing ability, so we know the Sogeking song wouldn't be a problem. Plus, after hearing his voices for Ed and Ikkaku, we know he has good range.

Wow, you're right. Now that I think about it… That is pretty damned suitable for Usopp. I hope FUNimation chooses him to take Usopp's part.

Also, Vic is a pretty good singer as well. Just like Usopp. So that would work out pretty good as well.

Yeah Laura Bailey is really hot from what I remember from the $1.99 Fruits Basket dvd, that I still got. I always had a feeling she would been prefect for Robin, when I'm reading the One Piece manga. I kind of hear her Lust voice.

I think it's appropriate to ask what (that has been revealed to us) has gotten changed? I enjoy the fact that mantora was corrected to mantra, but I'm curious to see what else has changed.

And again, for the Zoro/Zolo thing, if they try to pronounce it with the rolling tounge for the　ロ part of his name so it remains ambiguous, then I'm fine with it. I just have a problem with the hard 'l' sound. Not like you can do anything about it Mato, but you might be able to suggest it to the higher ups. It's not that I care, it's that the pronunciation of "Zolo" bothers me. Gunfall is fine though, since I don't think there was a clear romanization of that.

On another note, the G. Zass's Japanese name is pronounced the way we refer to the biblical character, not the Heyzeus way.

Well basically, think of all the new names and terms that appear in Jaya & Skypiea. We went through them all and asked for fixes/changes for everything that we felt needed it. Yes, including ALL the Blackbeard pirates Things are looking good. BUT I need to stress that we still gotta get clarification for lots of things. Sorry if that's still too vague. I can't exactly paste stuff in here. I'm very very happy with this news though.
