Grindhouse: A Rodriguez/Tarantino Double Feature

So, who else has seen this? I can't really call it a movie, because it's really two, with some very… interesting fake trailers.

Also, the first fake trailer for "Machete" seems like they're actually making into a movie now...

Well, I just got back from watching it, and it's the most fun movie I'd seen in my entire life! From Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" which is a zombie thriller, to Tarantino's "Death Proof", which is a film with pretty much no plot. It's the most fun you'll have watching a movie and I will guarantee it!

It's meant to be really fake & cheesy… that's the whole "style" that Rodriguez & Tarantino were going for. And the Rob Zombie trailer for "Werewolf Chicks of the SS" (or whatever the name was) was freakin' hilarious!

I don't know… it's like they were trying for the coolness of Axe-Hand Morgan's character design, but didn't quite connect. I can imagine walking will be a real pain when the rifle goes off.

Honestly, IMO, Quentin Tarantino is like giving a 12-year-old boy a $30 million budget and telling him to make a movie. I saw the Kill Bill films. If he made one movie it would be a spectacular novelty, but when he keeps making them, it just seems like he's stereotyping himself after a while.

Axe-Hand Morgan? He's a lame wussjob compared to Ash from the Evil Dead series (chainsaw for a hand).

But yeah, if you watch this movie intending to take it seriously, you'll hate it. I just came back from watching it, and I loved it, but that might be because I was intending it to be a glorified spoof of the ever-spoofable grindhouse genre, and I was right.

I always thought that the axe was about the coolest possible bodily attachment. After all, if you have a chainsaw, but run out of petrol, you're in trouble. A gun sort of needs bullets.

I loved the movie, the style, the general atmosphere radiating from the picture and sound while watching, especially the fake trailers. I'm still thinking about Machete, and I know NOT to fuck with the WRONG MEXICAN!

I especially like how Death Proof had no real plot and the entire movie set up that fantastic car chase scene at the end. You just don't see movies like that nowadays. I hope Rodriguez and Tarantino do another movie like this.

Yeah, I learned of that last night, Hobo With A Shotgun has just about a silly a title as "Snakes On A Plane", and is just as funny to watch.

I enjoyed that so much, I haven't seen such a fun movie in so long! Planet Terror was badass, Rodriguez really had fun with this one I could tell and Death Proof kinda surprised me with the end. Proves once again that Tarantino is a genius. Just when you think the movie is gonna be slow and with lame characters… it just explodes with awesome towards the end.

And now I hear Harvey Weinstein is trying to get the movies split for a re release because they didn't fare to well. The reason it didn't do so well is because it was marketed like shit, the advertisements were horrible, and it wasn't until I got around to reading ABOUT the movie that I wanted to see it.

Harvey Weinstein thinks they did poorly because of the length, which was also poorly advertised. I didn't even know it was going to be 3 hours 11 minutes until about 2 days before after I decided I was going.

I loved the over the top ridiculousness of the first one, but I have to admit the second one dragged for me.

Maybe it was because it was Saturday before easter and I was tired from church and cooking and family stuff, maybe the movie was just too long but I don't know, I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. Also the character development went on too long in parts, especially since they killed off the characters anyway.

But umm, I dunno, it was definately worth seeing, but the second one just felt a little off for me.

Death Proof was slightly flawed, Tarantino could've cut a good 1/3 of the dialogue and given us alot more Stuntman Mike and it would've been infinitely better. It was still really good though, and that ending was classic! The whole theater was cheering.

Planet Terror was just plain awesome from start to finish, Rodriguez really got the Grindhouse idea, while Quentin took it and added his own Tarantino-ness to it.

The overall expirience is just great though, definatealy an amazing movie(s).

It's best not to think about that since it honestly isn't explained. It's supposed to imitate the B movies of yesteryear. The ones that weren't quite good enough, or high-budget enough to make the big screens. Except Planet Terror was QUITE high budget it seems, LOTS of CGI and special effects.

What I loved most about these movies is that they really showed each director's style and blended really well with the Grindhouse genre.

Planet Terror was, like most of Rodriguez's films, very comicbook-like. It was loud, overexaggerated and just plain fucking awesome. Most of the aspects of that movie (Like Cherry's machinegun leg) were not realistic at all but. WHO CARES. Seriously. Just accept that its not going to be accurate in anyway to real life, its just fun. Plus you gotta admit, her spinning around and shooting all those guys and seemingly never running out of ammo was pretty fucking cool. XD

Now, Death Proof, at first I was thinking I wasn't going to like it. Like I said before. My thing with Tarantino movies, there is always something that I absolutely love about them. The music, for one was excellent. The car chase scene was just amazing, especially the nice little twist at the end. My god that was too awesome!

After seeing this a second time, I think I did enjoy Death Proof a lot more, but I still think Planet Terror was badass.

Dont was just excellent. The fat guy was eating babies!
Thanksgiving was the second best trailer for me. The girl jumping into the knife was hillarious.
Planet Terror was the real winner though. Rodriguez(the actor) was amazing. He was a friggin ninja killing those zombies in the hospital. Rose McGowan acted her best here. All the Charmed fanboys will see this. Of course seeing Michael Beihn was a great treat but the biggest surprise was Fergie in the movie! The only unnecessary thing in the movie was the zombie balls.
Death Proof would have been better if they would have gotten through with a lot of the dialogue faster. I think Tarantino has a foot fetish though because Sydney Poiter has her feet zoomed on a lot. However the ending was perfect and Kurt Russel was godly.

Seriously if you dont see this you will be missing out.

Just saw this last night and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I hadn't really wanted to see it much beforehand, at least in the theater, but I'm really glad I did now. I really, really liked it and it's been a long time since I laughed that much in a movie theater. I have to say, I almost walked out part of the way into Death Proof, since I really don't get off on seeing innocent people die horribly and I just could not fathom why a friend of mine (a certified zombie-holic, no less) grudgingly admitted she liked it more than Planet Terror, but the end was so incredibly awesome, I understand completely now. I seriously, seriously enjoyed myself through the whole thing.

Rodriguez's movie was okey at it's best, I guess. It had few neat ideas but I have never been a big fan of this type of things. I haven't yet watched Tarantino's movie though.

I saw Grindhouse and thought only the first part Planet Terror was awesome, really good stuff, but then the second part rolled its way in and I was so bored and it was just dragging on and on then it ended. My ass hurted from sitting so long. Anyway I reccommend just watching the first part and then leaving unless you're into the second one more then the go see the other, not both.
