@Beautiful:

Yeah, the manga is more like the original Japanese with names and such than the anime (through Viz that is).
-
So I'm watching the series but with Funi's uncensored DVD dub which is good…and at bad at some.
This shit ROCKS, loved He'ie's fights, the way he fucks everyone up is kickass.
Him & Genkai are my fav. characters, I like Genkai cuz she messed up that gay-ass clown.
Gonna start the fight with Tuguro & co. soon which is really gonna rock.
BTW which chapter in the manga does the Dark Tourney start from? -
Not sure what chapter, but I THINK it starts on volume 6. If you like Dark Tourney, just wait until the next arc.
-
^Cool. BTW does Toei really enjoy pissing off it's viewers? Ep. 54 was such a filler, and the fight between Kurama & Kurasu was badly animated at some points. Still cool fight, tho the outcome was kinda lame. Anyway it's He'ie's fight now so he should be able to kick some ass.
-
Studio Pierrot did Yu Yu Hakusho.
the more you know
-
Oh really? lol, well yeah that :P.
BTW are the movies (& any OVAs & specials) worth watching? -
I have watched the second movie, Poltergeist Report. It is pretty dark compared with the first arcs (says the man who didn't watch Shinobu Arc yet), Botan looks like OC, generic villains and has an awkward ending :/
-
Kurama vs. Karasu wasn't that bad at all. Now Hiei vs. Bui had plenty of QUALITY moments though.
-
In the Dark Tournment Finals, I always find the Kuwabara Vs. Toguro Ani's fight one of the most burtal fights I ever seen beside Kurama and Karasu.
-
Now Hiei vs. Bui had plenty of QUALITY moments though.
The first few moments of that fight were pretty awesome with Bui flinging those tiles and throwing his axe around, but then he took off his armor…....and.....yeah.
-
YYH was pretty much my first foray into anime fandom. There had been Sailor Moon and DBZ before it, but they didn't capture my attention like Yu Yu did. Though I have to confess, I still haven't watched the alot of Three Kings Saga, it just sounded very 'meh'.
I think what I liked about Yu Yu Hakusho was the fact that it was a fighting shonen anime; but unlike other shonen anime, it wasn't JUST about the fighting. There was character building, and emotion, and GUYS CRYING. I'd never seen male characters cry in a shonen before, and considering some of the shit they have to go through, you really should see it more often (this may be one reason I like OP so much).
Overall, my favorite character was Kuwabara, with Yusuke a close second. The backalley punk with honor (and lover of kittens), the so-called "weak dumbass" that can walk into battle alongside Hiei and the infamous Youko Kurama and hold his own. It's a shame the series ended when it did, I would have loved to see how his newfound powers would have developed after the whole Sensui ordeal.
-
I'm not particularly familiar with YYH, but, from what I do remember from watching it on Toonami a long time ago, the villains were lame, and Genkai was easily my favorite character.
The scene where she returns from the dead or whatever was awesome.
-
My favorite character from YYH was probably Doctor from the Chapter Black saga.
-
Yes, Genkai owns. BUT, YYH has great villans, so take that back!
-
I've only seen one or two, and one of them, Sensui I think, a multi-personality guy who I thought was really dumb.
-
@Really:
BUT, YYH has great villans, so take that back!
A muscle bound freak with a contrived backstory and a lightning demon with the same personality as every other demon.
Oh joy!
-
Yu yu had awful villains.
Save for fucking Raizen, who is arguably one of the most powerful characters in anime history, as when his stomach grumbles is shakes all of demon world.
-
The first few moments of that fight were pretty awesome with Bui flinging those tiles and throwing his axe around, but then he took off his armor…....and.....yeah.
Agreed, and DAMN did He'ie look Chibi-ish in the following episode! The later 2 fights were FREAKING DULL, I actually skipped forward a few seconds just to see some blows get hit in….and Toguro at MAX strength looked gay. Oh well I finished the Dark Tourney saga, gonna see how the next one's gonna be.
-
YuYu was a great classic series. The plot was kind of up in the air at times, especially during the tournament arcs, almost as if Togashi didn't really know what direction to take the story, but overall, it's a pretty entertaining anime to watch. The characters are arguably some of the most memorable in any anime.
Worst part of YuYu though-Toguro VS Yusuke, a battle that had been hyped up for 40+ episodes, then when it finally happens, it becomes an all-out DBZ-style slugfest between a street punk and Arnold Schwarzenegger on steriods. That fight was horrible on so many levels. The entire Chapter Black arc afterwards redeemed it though.
And I freaking hate when Bleach fans argue the fact that Bleach isn't based off YuYu, believe me it is. Ichigo's pretty much a punk rock version of Yusuke.
-
Yeah, Dark Tournament felt like another generic Shonen Tournament to me, though it did have some good fights and it actually had some character development. Then Chapter Black was just great, it's still one of my favorite anime arcs of all time.

I actually thought Hiei/Bui was worse in the DBZ comparison. We have this mysterious armor guy with an axe and I'm waiting the whole tournament to see what he can do…and he turns out to be some DBZ reject. Even if Younger Toguro's final fight was similar, at least somehow it was redeemed with stuff like "Kuwabara's phony sacrifice" :p
Somehow with Ichigo...I don't see him that much like Yusuke. The latter was a real punk with honor and dignity. Ichigo is just a poser by comparison, a nice guy who uses his fists occasionally.
-
Can someone explain to me how-
! Genaki came back to life? I didn't bother watching the 2 episodes prolouging the Dark Tourney arc mainly cuz they felt 'filler-ish' in a sense to me
-
Whoever won the Dark Tournament got to wish for whatever they wanted. Yusuke wished for Genkai's revival. They don't really explain how they make it happen; it's not even explained how they gave Younger Toguro a demon body that never ages(which was what he wanted when he won along with Genkai back then.)
-
I only read a few of the manga, I'm almost finished w/ 3rd season (I found all the other episodes in the best video website, veoh.com). I can't wait to see the next part (of course that won't happen until I finish the other series I started yesterday (If you want to know what it is, it's Samurai Deeper Kyo)
-
never watched the anime, only read the manga. the shittiness of its end shows you how HxH will finish.
-
@Jedi:

Save yourself the trouble by stabbing yourself in the skull.

Yeah, I heard the manga ending was rushed. While the anime ending was also sort of rushed, at least it gave some sort of conclusion.
-
Iv been reading Yu Yu manga online and I cant seem to find any place its been translated past Volume 17. Have people just quit translating it in favor of putting up the american version out of JUMP monthly? If anyone can help me find the original version translated many thanks.
-
I don't think people bother scanslating it anymore since Viz is releasing it, and it's an older manga.
-

Anime >>>>>>> Manga
-
I have a question. Does anyone know what happens in the final arc of YYH that is different than the anime? I can only find scans up to the very first chapter of the 3 Kings arc…

I've heard that basically they extend the length of all the major fights and add more to the tournament
-
I heard Genkai dies at the end of the manga and the 4 mains have to go on one more mission or something like that. The Demon Tournament in the manga basically skipped all of the fights I believe.
-
They have a final mission in spirit world, but it's basically a joke worth of a few more pages.
-
what happens?
16 G. Zass

Koenma's building is invaded and he's kidnapped along with Botan…then it explodes with Yusuke apparently inside, but he shows up at the beach in the end, like the anime.
There's no kiss though, and yeah, Genkai was dead...but IIRC they don't say too much about it, just that she's dead. -
Thought this was the most appropriate thread to ask this. Please don't flame me for asking this and if it's against the rules or if it's the wrong thread, I'll retract the statement but I have been searching around the internet UNSUCCESSFULLY and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know of any sites where you can watch Yu Yu Hakusho subtitled episodes? All I keep finding is the dub. Yes, I know the dub was awesome but I wanna watch 'em subtitled because I find it more comfortable to watch. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance.
PS Preferably online streaming. I hate downloading and hate torrents even more.
-
You could buy the DVDs (lol buying anime). Other than that, the only time I've found it with subs is in dual audio video files, which you can find on a torrent site or IRC.
-
It would be very hard for me to buy the DVDs seeing as I live on an island in the middle of a huge ass sea (try explaining the postage and packing to my parents) I really don't know how to use irc either. I guess I could try torrents but I'm pretty torrent phobic>.> Might as well give it a shot. Know any reliable torrent sites with the subtitled (or fansubbed) episodes? Anything so I can watch the original and understand it at the same time.

Any torrent site that has anime probably.

175. Don't think they're all scanned though. The anime is much better, anyway.

Yeah, I advise you not to read the manga online unless you want to wait up to 3 months for a new chapter to get scanlated.
-
Sigh Torrents are no good either. I only findd dub of them as well. Sigh, I think I might as well give up and watch the dub. Ooh>< thing is I watched the first 6 episodes of the sub on Veoh and now I'm hooked to it. However that guy hasn't uploaded any new episodes for 4 months now!
-
watch the dub its better than the sub
-
Though Yusuke screaming "KUWABARA!" Everytime in the first few eps. of the series can be a headache…
-
Thing is like I said I watched the sub first now I'm hooked to it
and really wanna watch that but seeing as I can't find an y other episodes, I might as well concede and watch the dub. -
Just thought I'd like to share pics of the new dvd season's funi has been puttin out recently up to thus far. And yeh, they have dubbed and original episodes if anyone is wondering, uncut.
