I don't intend to post on here, but there were too many YYH posts in the Bleach section. Now you have somewhere to go
YuYu Hakusho
-
-
awwww its the greatly superior YYH making your Bleach look inferior
and a side note, anyone notice how much some of these character parallel JJBA characters
Yusuke and Jotaro are like identical
Kuwabara and Jean
Kurama and KakyoinI found that kinda odd.
-
Jotaro is a lot cooler then yusuke, by far.
Genkai could be an older version of Lisa Lisa.
Also to start off the thread I am going to say that the
Sensui arc > anything else in the series.
-
I agree with Tal. YYH>>>>>>Bleach. Not that I hate Bleach tho.
I wish the final arc of YYH wasn't rushed tho. It would've greatly benifitted from additional length. Still, I loved the final chapters/episodes of the series. My second favorite series after DB/Z

Final arc was great…..until yusuke proposes the torunament. Then its happy go lucky tournament fights until the end.
I dont know why people compare bleach to yu yu hakusho. I dont see the comparison besides the main character in both being delinquents.
I think yu yu is undoubtably better than bleach. Bleach is horrible now, and before it was just your definition of generic shounen manga. It was entertaining, but by no means was it anything memorable.
I agree with that warp......in the manga. but in the anime, the dark tournament was better. I mean it was just a timeless arc. the peak of the series.
I didnt like the conclusion of the sensui arc. yusuke's demon was just deux ex machina. and after the whole arc being less about fighting, it seemed unfitting that the arc ended with all the fighting.
not to mention sensui having some kinda disease and all that other stuff he said at the end, seemed kind of irrelevant.
-
Seems like a lot of people here are into comparing Bleach and YYH. Allow me to not conform to that.
I love Yu Yu Hakusho. Its the first anime that ever actually purchased. I'd say my favorite arc was the Dark Tournament. Very well done in the anime.
yusuke's demon was just deux ex machina and after the whole arc being less about fighting, it seemed unfitting that the arc ended with all the fighting.
Look at it this way, Yusuke himself was pissed that the last arc ended the way it did.
But yeah, the whole Sensui having a terminal illness thing did come outta no where…
-
Bleach <<<<<<<<<<<<<< <yu yu="" hakusho<br="">Oh was that posted already?</yu>
-
Well i didn't really read the manga But I did watch the anime. And I thought it was great except the final arc.Even for shonen it had alot of action
-
I actually haven't read the manga version of the senui arc ^^. Though YYH is one of the only series I like better in the anime.
That, sure, Yusuke's demon thing was a little DeM, but it looked cool so I was good.
That and one of my favorite lines in all of manga came from YYH. It's the line where Hiei says that he's gonna bring Sensui to hell and throws the dragon flame* at him right after yusuke "dies."
Man that line was just so…I can't desribe it it was so cool XD
- = what was this attack called again. I went by "dragon of the darkness flame", but that was Funimation's title so I kinda forget the manga title ^^;;
-

QFT, Yuyu is probably the only anime i think is better than its manga counterpart. Mainly after the fight against Toguro, when Togashi laziness became evident.

Ensatsu Kokuryuha, i guess
-
Ah, the good old days.
Yeah, YYH does own Bleach, nowadays it seems Bleach is just DBZ with swords (Although YYH had some pretty DBZ-esque moments too)
I agree that Yusuke's demon form was pretty DEM, but the ass-whooping that followed made up for that.
-
I like Flame of Recca better than YYH :X
I really used to like YYH….until it became a tournament manga. I still can't understand how people can say "ZOMFG ITS OVER 9000X BETTER THAN BLEACH" when it pulls the same crap....earlier.
(NOTE: I still like YYH and Bleach, I just feel like I needed to add that for everyone else)
*Also, the #1 thing that pissed me off about YYH was that damn Hiei. WhyTF couldn't he tell Yukina that he was her brother AFTER he killed Sensui? (I'd really appreciate if someone could answer that)
-
YYH is more badass and has more style
period
who cares if it follows classic archtypes if it rocks and kicks ass while doing it.
-

Because its ten times more creative and carefree?
And has a personality while doing it?Rather than the circus of deadpan cliches that is the Soul Society?
I'm talking about the manga myself. Which I prefer muchly over the anime.

eh? Recca was a tournament manga too at one point.
I will say recca had a better ending tho. Manga wise.
Anime was total garbage.
and reason we say yu yu > bleach is because yu yu's best was alot better than bleach's. I mean come on, it basically used the same arc structure TWICE, and of all arcs they choose the one that dragged the first time to re-do., except remove all the interesting characters. just bland main characters(I always found ichigos group to be rather boring) and even worse enemies. That is what turned me off the series.
but thats why I dont see why people compare the two. I see no real similarities in structure.
-
Elder Toguro was the most bland and awful villain I've ever seen.
-
Personally think that YYH is all over the place with its arcs..both in a good and bad way. The whole "Ghost"-feel of the first arc definately makes it stand out, even though we know Togashi was doing a different genre at first before making it a fighting manga. Perhaps my favorite parts are the early Spirit Detective cases (the three items, Genkai's Tournament…also include the first Toguro arc) and the Sensui arc (where Togashi was free from the tournament factors that bogged down the middle and end and created some really fun powers and situations...even though the whole "Demon Blood" crap nearly ruined it). I like bits and pieces of the Dark Tournament (Koto and Juri..what more can I say), but somehow found the final Toguro battle more anticlimactic compared to some of the other battles. And the final arc...well, I guess I wasn't into it even before it became another tournament..but the ending (at least in the anime) was beautiful in tying everything back to the beginning.
-
@Cap'n:
Elder Toguro was the most bland and awful villain I've ever seen.
Yes.
but ichigo is the most generic shounen main character you can find. I mean everything about him and his main group is just bland and uninteresting.
So I see your 1, with 6.(I include renji)
-
Who said anything about Bleach?
I don't really care what people think of it, since it has been in a bit of a lull, but I just wanted to point out how shitty Toguro was.
I mean his design is BUFF MAN IN BAD 80'S SUNGLASSES.
And his SUPER POWER FORM looked like someone shit him out.
His talk about I'M ONLY USING 5.03333333333333% OF MY POWER and so forth was probably worse than Freeza and other mid-late Dragonball villain.
Then it turns out D'AWWW he's a good guy after all.
Retarded.
And from what I remember for however much SENSUI THE BADASS was showcased and built up, after his convoluted backstory is cleared up he's dispatched in 2 seconds.

haven't even hit the DT yet and I agree
YAHARRRRR LOOK AT MY MUSCLES UPON MUSCLES

OK seriously, the YYH vs. Bleach comparisons are just getting out of hand. Whats the point? Just read/watch whatever the hell you want. :getlost:
clap
Yeah, Yu Yu Hakusho….
I think that the Elder Toguro would've been a lot cooler if he wasn't so under-used.
And I don't believe it was ever really covered about how he became a demon as well. Or my memory is just foggy...
-
I believe he sold his soul for his eternal youth/demonhood-ness. Something that was only mentioned in conversation.
-

LOL, your posts never cease to be funny
Sorry for assuming you were comparing it to bleach.
I didnt mind him that much. I mean the anti-villain characters occur in EVERY series.
His power was straight to the point. Just brute force. I mean its just preference really. He obviously didnt bother me as much as he did you.
and he used the "wish" granted to the winner of the tournament back when he and genkai won it to get his demon body.
-
and he used the "wish" granted to the winner of the tournament back when he and genkai won it to get his demon body.
I knew that, I was reffering to the Elder Toguro. (The short, spindly, strechy fingers guy. The younger one is our 80's muscle man. Which I think Carter had confused with earlier)
-
Oh. Right it was a wish. I think he wished for the same thing as his brother.
-
Oh, sorry, I meant the younger one, though the older one sucked too.
ANOTHER thing that was retarded: Bui vs Hiei
-
Bui made me chuckle.
Actually….I remember kind of liking that fight. Even if the anime had some "quality" moments to that fight.
-
The dub was the best, The first dub ending and the openings were brilliant!
-
@Cap'n:
Oh, sorry, I meant the younger one, though the older one sucked too.

Damn son. Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate!
You act like its the first series with shounen cliches. or the only one. XD
I mean we are both fans of kinnikuman. I think fights cant get more ridiculous than that.
-
The best part of the dub was the Kuwabara vs. Elder Toguro fight.
A bunch of cut up leads leading to:
Kuwabara: ARGH SMASH YOU
Toguro: please don't ahhhhhhh -
Spirit Flyswatter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it turned out he wasn't dead.
-
one thing I thought the anime did wrong was the amount of blood kuwa lost when younger toguro pierced him. Talk about overdose.
The explanation was "he missed my heart". I was waiting for someone to say "Dude, you lost like 3 gallons of blood before coughing up another half of one." but no one noticed that.
There was no blood in the manga, like he pierced pressure points or something.
-
because he didn't want to?
secretive loner types are always like that.
-
The manga was ok for me but I prefered watching instead. ( though I like reading HxH then watching it.)
I thought Hiei didn't want to tell Yukina because of how he was.
-
@Cap'n:
And from what I remember for however much SENSUI THE BADASS was showcased and built up, after his convoluted backstory is cleared up he's dispatched in 2 seconds.
I think the Sensui battle lasted a bit of time, maybe not as much buildup compared to Younger Toguro but it was a satisfying battle. My wish was that they could have showed off the powers of his other personalities outside "the orator", "the tough" and "True Sensui".
As for Elder Toguro…well, he was "almost dead"...but the fact he was eaten and took over the body of that Gourmet guy...yeah, sort of happy about what Kurama did but I think Gourmet got the short end of the stick.
-
@Cap'n:
Oh, sorry, I meant the younger one, though the older one sucked too.

You seem to hate almost everything about YYH which makes me wonder why you even read/watched it for so long.
YYH is probably my favorite anime, I really got into it. I enjoy animes where I really connect with all the characters and where each arc flows into the next one. All of the villians have many great dimensions to them as well, I enjoy this anime quite a bit. And I've enjoyed the manga too, from what I've read, though I think the anime improves upon it.
And on another note, with the dub, I enjoyed the voices, but as it progressed they really fudged up the script, the Sensui arc was completely "altered" to where it hardly made any sense. So I would say I definately prefer the sub, I do like the original voices better and the original script. It makes me glad that FUNi has such good subtitles.
-
So I mention 2 or 3 things I dislike about the series, and that means I HAET EVERYTHING about it? I don't get it.
-
@Cap'n:

It doesn't, but to me I've heard you say
"Bui, he was stupid"
"Toguro Brothers, gay"
"Yusuke being a Demon was the stupidest plot twist ever"
"Yusuke vs Toguro was a bad DBZ fight"Usually when there's that much I hate I usually wouldn't like something, but I guess you're just different.
No worries.
-
@Beautiful:
You seem to hate almost everything about YYH which makes me wonder why you even read/watched it for so long.
I'm in that boat because the series has aged somewhat poorly and I'm not really into anime/manga anymore in general.
One thing: the Dark Tournament. I LOVE shonen tournaments, and can still stand them despite how obligatory and typical they seem. But I'd never be able to watch the DT episodes again, there are like 60 of them filled with ugly forgettable characters in ugly forgettable fights. The culmination of which being the boss battle, with a decent Kurama fight, Hiei the Hackneyed, and Fingers vs Frying Pan. I really hated the ending of that one until I realized that it's no more ridiculous than anything else in the series.
I still remember the series having its moments, though. The anime was great given the half assed art it was based on, and the first four volumes, with Yusuke as a tough otherwordly detective instead of Goku Lite were really interesting. Even as the reborn son of a demon I guess Yusuke's fights were pretty good, though.
-
YuYu Hakusho was the one that made me into the anime/manga world. I love this series, especially the anime counterpart. It sucks however I didn't watch the rest after the episode where Kuwabara fights with Elder Toguro, due of Cartoon Network took Toonami off from the daylight schedule.
-
This series' focus was always changing! First it was episodic, so that Yusuke could come back to life, then it went into some detective story, then into a tournament fighter. I haven't read past the DT arc, so I can't really comment on stuff beyond that.
I dunno, my interest in the series was always fluctuating. I liked the first four/five volumes, and then the Dark Tournament bored me for the most part. It had a few cool fights, but overall I wanted to get it over with. Urameshi vs. Toguro was a somewhat fulfilling end, though. I'll have to finish it sometime…
-
I kind of agree with Rixter; it felt like the story was kind of all over the place. I always enjoyed the spirit detective stuff at the beginning, and I always found it weird that it mutated into "TOURNAMENT FIGHTING ARCS!!!"
I'm in that boat because the series has aged somewhat poorly and I'm not really into anime/manga anymore in general.

Though I did enjoy the series for a bit, I have to agree with Bucc here. I enjoyed bits and parts of the Dark Tournament, but it was mainly the fights with Suzuka's team. Other than that, most of the characters were pretty forgettable and so were their fights. The mad scientist's team or whatever was pretty much the epitome of the term "throwaway character."
Oh, the reason I rag on Bui so much; the thing with his and Hiei's auras fighting each other was probably one of the stupidest things I've ever. seen. It especially disappointed me because I thought Bui looked awesome, and he was the one member of Toguro's team I was really looking forward to seeing. Then he throws his armor off and goes super saiyan.
Even though Flame of Recca started out as a pseudo-YYH knockoff, I think it handled things much better (especially the tournament arc).
Oh, and I'm sure the manga is preferable to the anime, but I was amazed when I picked up a volume and saw how mediocre the art was.
oh, and I probably still seem like I HATE T HE WHOLE SERIES!!! But I just wanted to reiterate that I really enjoyed the arc up to the tournament, and going through that long thing kind of sapped my interest in the series.
-
Speaking of DBZ influences, the one thing I didn't really "like" at the end of the Dark Tournament was that the ending had the typical "revive all the good guys at the end of the saga" thing with Genkai. And while I did like that Genkai had a pretty decent role in the Sensui arc, I felt that it still could have worked without her and would have made her vs Toguro a bit more memorable if she died and STAYED dead.
Though at least they gave a fairy respectable reason as to why she was revived other than "WOAH WE WISHED HARD ENOUGH"
-
Great! A thread about YuYu hakusho!
YuYu Hakusho has always been one of my most favourite series, especaily the dark tournament arc!
Although I have to admit that it has its quirks, but it still a great series.
-
I agree with the Genkai thing. She didn't need to come back.
Kuwabara, however, was way too retardedly awesome to die.
-
I really enjoyed Yu Yu Hakusho. It was a little different than some of the other shounen titles, but still had all the qualities inherent to the genre. Then again, all successful shounen series are like that. I do agree that the quality of the story went down as the series entered "Tournament Mode"; I liked the detective angle of the early story arcs much more. I also enjoyed the early part of the Demon World arc- before it went into "Tournament Mode", too. I must disagree with Carter however- the Elder Toguro (the short, skinny one) worked out great as a creepy bad guy because he looks like a midget Michael Jackson-or at least he did in the manga- and he had a weird, insane laugh. Plus, he killed people semi-randomly. What else does a villain need?
-
I felt Flame of recca's tournament arc too was handled better…..EXCEPT the final fight.
All of the recca final fights save for recca and kurei's, I felt were superior to the yu yu finals(Kurama fight was good, but I have to agree that the but/hiei aura's were a little much, and why younger toguro basically threw the fight I will never understand)
but when Recca went "Everyone get out. Im about ta blow this bitch up." to which he emptied the stadium before proceeding to blow it up. Then the final fight became "who can dig their teammate out of the rubble the fastest" and a fist brawl after that.
A little anit-climactic imo. Yusuke vs toguro was far superior imo.
Joker vs. Kogenei might be one of my favorite anime fights ever tho. heck Joker may be one of my favorite villains.
Recca semi-finals were pretty bad too(magenta or whatever's power)
-
I dunno, I've just seen the scrawny little psycho creep thing done a million times.
The worst part was when he tried to come back later.
edit: What?! The brawl between Recca and Kurei was fucking awesome. Seeing Recca kick his ass with that final punch was much more satisfying than blasting him with Nadare or whatever.
And I loved Magensha and his team. I think the only "meh" part of the tournament for me was the Uruha-Oto (Neon's team).
-

Magensha's team was cool, just magensha…..
I just didnt like his ability. The whole dimension thing and fuuko taking him down from the inside, Idk, just didnt like it.
when he used the nadare-kakuu(old man dragon) combo. Just ruined the pace of the fight for me. I mean they had to evacuate the stadium and then you just see lasers going everywhere as it blows up. Then they dug them out and they fist fought. Kinda lame imo. fist fight was ok, but the pace had been ruined for me.
