Oda-sensei 's first claim to fame and time getting real attention as a manga artist was winning second place in the Osamu Tezuka award right? I was just wondering who won first place and where did their manga career go? Are they a famous mangaka or did they just disapear?
The Tezuka Award: Who beat Oda-sensei?

It's probably the Kenshin mangaka, Oda's sensei.
-
First time I heard of this and Im very curious too now.
I really hope its someone that Oda looks up to. Haha Im pretty sure you all know who I mean. Or possible the guy who wrote Rurouni Kenshin.
I just hope its not Naruto's or Bleach's Mangaka (not that I dont like them, infact I like them quite a bit but just not nearly as much as OP)

It could be Akira, cause Oda's a big fan of his too. I doubt it's the FMA guy, though, since the anime is more popular.

I seriously doubt Akira was made in 1994. Wasn't it made in the 80's (maybe even before then).
Also the Fma manga ka is a woman

It was a comic contest. I don't really think the winner has to have anything to do with Eiichiro Oda themselves. It would be interesting if it was Hiroyuki Takei or something since he and Oda worked together after that. But I doubt it.

I thought it was the Hot Step award and he got first place…

I think they meant Akira Toriyama.
Oh, and Hiroyuki Takei did win some kind of Tezuka award for one of his one-shots I think. I just don't know if it was the same kind of award. And I don't know when he won it (I read that Oda won his award in 1992).

He's probably won several awards, but he clearly came in 2nd place in the Tezuka one. It says so in his US SJ bio and in the Wanted! Collection he says 'I co-won the Tezuka award' for Wanted!

Well… Kishimoto and Oda are friends, right... Then again... Tite Kubo might pull a fast one... I hear rumors that he is allied with Yoshio Sawai. :) The plot thickens.…..

What year was it?
edit: the listing I found only goes back to '97, nevermind.

Yeah, all accounts i can find of the award in regards to Oda is that he won it. I couldn't find anything about him coming in second.
edit: Oh, the "jun-nyuusen" award we won was apparently the second most important, so there really was someone else.
