So. Just saw episode 4. Yeeeep.
I really, really wanted to like the artstyle switch for the episode, even after hearing all the criticism, but until the last couple scenes it just didn't click. The worst part about it, though, was the dumb filler plot that seems like it was ripped straight from Toei. I mean, it had some cool moments but… geez. Too much of a departure from the last (great) three episodes.
3's gattai scene and muda-ing was ingenious, though.

Four was terrible in my eyes because it introduced the Sixteen Face Ganmen. It was established in episode three that the more faces a Ganmen has, the more powerful it's supposed to be, and thus far outside of Gurren-Lagann with two true faces, Enki with one face and a fake, Byakou with two and Sayrune with three (?), the Sixteen faced Ganmen is a total continuity break.
Not to mention it was weak and could combine as well, while previously only Lagann could combine with other Ganmen.
Plus the "I'm hungry" weakness was very un-manly.

The four generals names seems to be mix of the DNA terminology, and the 4 base elementals of alchemy.
It's not so obvious unless you spell it in Japanese, but all four of the generals names consists of: first half of the name being based on DNA terminology and second half directly taken from the elementals.チミルフ = チミン (Thymine) ＋シルフ (Sylph)
アディーネ = アデニン (Adenine) ＋ウンディーネ (Undine)
グアーム = グアニン (Guanine) ＋ノーム (Gnome)
シトマンドラ = シトシン (Cytosine) ＋サラマンダー (Salamander) or サラマンドラSylph, Undie, Gnome, and Salamander are elements of wind, water, earth, and fire, respectively.
To top it off, the four generals Ganmen are most likely named after the four guardian beasts of chinese myth.
Thymilf's Byakkou = Byakko (白虎) the white tiger
Adiane's Seirune = Seiryuu (青龍) the blue dragonExpect Guanine's ganmen to sound similar to "Genbu", and Cytomander's to sound similar to "Suzaku" (or any other commonly used name for phoenix).
In other words, they crammed all these populary used symbol of "four" and mixed it all in. :heh: huh?

Who really made the episode, though, was Viral. Then Kittan.
Simon's EMO is starting to annoy me…I guess my prediction was wrong, it'll settle down by next episode. Still, it was really bad!

OK saw eps. 8 & 9 and let me tell ya-
! This series just went downhill for me; WHY THE FUCK KILL KAMNIA?!?!
Seriously he was pretty much the ONLY reason I watched this thing and they kill him off as early as Episode 8?!?! Fucking dumb, plus 'Punk-ass Simon' from Ep. 9 was freaking gay, and DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON NIA. If I could I could blow her head up with a shotgun then keep firing till NONE of her freaking body remains!
At any rate, I'll keep watching this, but will DL more eps the end of this month. -

Although lots of people dislike Evangelion (which I haven't seen all of yet), I think Gunbuster was a pretty good series.

Wow, Nia's voice gets extra high and squeaky when she's upset. I can just imagine her seiyuu's head exploding, because that can't possibly be someone's normal voice.
While she is plenty moe, Nia offers a variety of fresh perspectives without being head-bludgeonly annoying due to a degree of naivity to her surroundings.
This series has been much better than I ever thought it would be.

Well, I'm finally caught up now.
! Kamina's death scene was brilliant, but it wasn't until I saw episode 9 that it struck me how well done it was. Stuff like that is literally what legends are made of, and while Kamina was awesome in the first eight episodes, from now onwards he just seems larger than life. Although Nia seeming to take his place as the new source of morale is a little unsettling. At least the ED just got ten times cooler.

I think I'll do that too…this episode was 100% win until the union sequence, which should have been 110% epic but the music and Simon's Engrish ruined it.
Then, right after that, it went back to being 100% epic again.
Literally, at first I was all :w00t:, then :blink: , finally :ermm:.

Engrish doesn't bother me so long as it's coherent. "YEIS, MAI LORDO" comes to mind (haha) - but Simon's Engrish was just…well, the word I used somewhere else was "foul".
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one a bit disappointed at the sequence, but still, here's hoping more great stuff to come. Garmon's birth was relatively good, here's hoping Garlock is even more epic.
Also, Nia stuff.

I don't know. This episode was cool, but it wasn't all what it could've been.
It didn't have all the energy it should've, and the sound: music and voice acting, were lacking.
Some of those parts/frames with Simon were badass but, I'm not blown away at all.Also, for some reason, and even though it was the same animation, the giga drill something wasn't all what it was the first time it was used.

Eh, after watching the sequence about a dozen times…I'm fine with it. I will agree that in the end it doesn't end sound like him at all, but whatever. Maybe I'm just easy to please. There's going to be plenty more opportunities for Simon to show us his newfound Gar side and I can't wait.

I agree with Ruwyn, it does get better as one watches it, and Advent`'s version doens't sound too bad. Still weak, but permitable - I'll just go and say Simon hasn't quite gotten a grasp of the Gar deal yet, but he's got three episodes to show his stuff.
