I can't belive that Kamina died he was the best character on the show it's Asuma all over again
Goodbye Kamina
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Except Kamina had the spotlight and 8 episodes of development.
Asuma has about 25 pages of depth and personality.
Do not degrade our divine lord and eternal captain.
edit: jesus christ this wasn't even a year ago, when was I such a fucking douchebag.
-
Gosh, I'm still hung over this. Even after two days.
What incredible manly spirit. Maybe Kamina pumped enough of that in Gurren to have a ghostly echo appear someday in the future. ;_;
-
I hope he shows up again like in Star Wars.
"SIMON,USE THE FORCE!"

Okay, I'm not caught up still and really I didn't care that this was spoiled, dunno why. I just wanna say this post totally makes me forgive you. XDD

^Nice.
Just finished watching 8 episodes and I love it to death! God Kamina ruled.
adds Kamina to the list of great mecha heroes who left us WAY too soon
Right up there with Roy Focker of Macross.! R.I.P. Kamina - Ten Feet Tall of Awesome
You Rocked and Rocked hard. You Owned and Owned all. -

Heh, I remember that thread. My contribution was Taiga screaming.
-
IF they pull off something like the father-son kamehameha in DBZ,I'd like to see it.
Ghost of Kamina + Simon: GATTAAAAAIII!
-
sigh I hate it when great characters are killed too early. I mean, I'm not overly surprised that somebody great like Kamina died (when they're that awesome, they usually do), but episode EIGHT!? Can't even give the guy a full ten episodes!
And I'm gonna go ahead and be the girl that I am and say that I'm disappointed that we won't be able to see any further romantic development between Kamina and Yuko. goes and reads shoujo to console herself In all honesty though, I wish they had kept Kamina around a little while longer so we could capitalize on the potential strife between him and Simon.
The question is: Can the series survive now that Kamina has left us? Will he return in ghostly form, or get a terrible deus ex machina revival? Will poor Simon be able to bear the burder of the show on his little shoulders?
I haven't gotten this teary-eyed-sniffly since Fruits Basket. Although it's a different kind of teary-eyed-sniffly.
-
That is actually one of the reason I'm glad Kamina is gone, HimxYoko which I don't approve of.
Kamina was too cool for women, a romance would have just slowed down his awesomeness. Now, SimonxYoko, that works.
-
Isn't he a little young for Yoko? I mean, I think he's still going through puberty.
Besides, poor Yoko is gonna be trapped in "my-lover-died" angst for a goog long while now. Judging by the preview, Simon's gonna be heavy on the angst too.
-
I thought Simon was 14, and honestly don't see Yoko as much older, don't let the big boobs fool you, I'd say she was around 17. And since when was Kamina Yoko's "lover"?
-
Well, close enough. Point is the guy she cared about just got whacked. I'd say that's, oh . . . . at least three to five episodes worth of angsting.
Hmm, I guess I underestimate Simon's age since he's short . . . . .
-
Yeah, I don't understand the heights in manga and animes.
They either make them too short (Examples: Simon, Renton) or too tall (Examples: Ichigo, and several others)
Well….I'm 16, almost 17 and I'm pretty short myself. (5'4-5'6..tho I feel shorter)
-

i vote for the deus ex machina revival. he HAS to make a flashy entry again before the end of the anime.

Simon -> Garmon -> Garlock
We'll live, I'm sure.
On the deus ex issue, I read an interview about the director of the series (not sure who he is, I'll post this when I get home) and I have full confidence this show will be 100% excellent even until the last episode, since it's all been planned in advance. This contrasts Geass, which was being made on the seat of its pants (proverbially).
-
that episode inspired my sig…
and yeah this show is like CG's antithesis.
-

Ugh, no. I never liked Yoko to begin with and since she's the indirect cause of Kamina's death, I have all the more reason to dislike her.
If things play out correctly, Simon's going to have a true love by next episode, and it's someone I can approve of.

It's two.
-
Why two? Is this anime only 13 episodes or something?

That's good to hear. A deus ex machina revival would ruin the death, but I still kinda hope they have a "land of the dead" type thing cause I REALLY want to see Kamina again before this thing is over.
It's like what seperates One Piece from other generic shonen manga, in a way. Oda has nearly EVERYTHING planned out in advance, so we get solid continuity and a higher level of storytelling. Garp is an excellent example of this. Who saw that coming!?
Random note: Y'know, we should've known that Kamina's goose was cooked in episode 2-3 when he resolved the issue with his father. Knew that was over too fast.
-
the series should end with a look to the Land of the Dead and Kamina and Viral are still duking it out.
-

I don't think will. I'll probably liek her personality but not her looks. Damn lolis. Why do main char always get stuck with one
I liked the thought of SimonxYoko before but now it'll just mean trouble for Simon.
And i'm glad Kamina is gone. No more shadow for Simon. Too bad first mins of ep 1 happened.
And 2 eps of angst? Oh right 3 stages of Simons development, so stage 1 shoudl be over soon.
-
Why two? Is this anime only 13 episodes or something?
Dunno. The next episode will deal with Simon still trying to cope, and the episode following that should have him finally get past it.

Oh heck yes, it would be EPIC if Gurren started fighting by itself. Oh, here is the interview with the dude. His name is Kazuki Nakashima, and he's the "series composer" (?) and script writer.

Most hot-blooded Gar pilots in mecha anime die glorious deaths, so Kamina's was written in the stars…but so early, yeesh, what a surprise.

Though a loli, I still prefer her to some who doped on elephant hormones.
-
Oh man oh man oh man. Episode 8 was probably the greatest thing I've seen in some time. It felt like my soul was on fire by the end of that episode.
-
Just saw the 8th episode
Giga drill breaker has to be one of the most intense final blows Ive ever seen in anime history.
also the tone of the series is really going to change without kamina.hopefully not for the worst but i just ccan't picture the show without him.Im wondering how everything will play out.His death really surpised me.
Ive seems the love relationshipsfrom gainax don't seem to end very well.Which I think is a good thing

OK, so I saw up until Ep. 7 and meh, Ep. 4 was crap, Ep. 5 was lacking mecha fights, Ep. 6 was fanservice shit galore, Ep. 7 was cool.
Still I want some longer mecha fights damnit... -

Anime's 26 eps. 3 stages. You're pissing people off on Animesuki and you don't know that :ninja:
You're just … weird. But i knew that already.
-
I just started watching episode 1 yesterday, Not bad. Is Kamina voiced by the same Actor who plays Zoro?
-
so Kamina's theme song is Officially We Will Rock You / We are the Champions
-
Simon is emo and psychotic. Hopefully Nia will straighten him out.
-
damn no Kamina tribute other than the cloth
-
Ahem, don't kill me but IMO Kamina's death is good for the series. I don't say I'm happy Kamina is dead(I got upset), but during first 8 episodes he took all the protagonism: with the initiative, with action, with leadership …even with girls! Now Simon will grow and will become stronger.
Now I have a question: Will Simon be able to control GurrenLagann?
-
Obiviously since he did in ep. 1..
-
Well, this time I expect he'll be into the body and not into the head.
-
You should watch ep. 1 again. I'll leave it at that.
-
Man. Ep 9 was intense. Crazy Simon is Craaaaaaaaaazy.
-
Ep 9 was cool to get things moving but, fairy princess? GTFO!
Don't think I'll be able to stand her long, and the OP makes it look like she's gonna be a regular on the show… -

Don't think I'll be able to stand her long, and the OP makes it look like she's gonna be a regular on the show…Apparently, Gurren-Lagann isn't just a '70's throw-back super robot show.
Here's how the spread goes.
Arc I: '70's super robot homages. Over-the-top hot-blooded action, self sacrifice, and manly tears.
Arc II: '80's super robot homages. Larger-than-life drama, new/lost love, villan characterization (blurring the lines), complex ideals.
Arc III: '90's super robot homages. Not sure of what to expect.
Arc IV: ??? (probably GAR)Each Arc is ~eight episodes in length, except the last one which is two.
-
Why do people hate Nia already? She's had like 10 minutes screentime. Calm down folks.

They miss Kamina. Personaly I think Nia is moe as hell.
-
@Advent`:
Nia is moe as hell.
You're not the only one, but for some reason she doesn't piss me off like 95% of all other "Moe" characters do. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because she's helping Simon by fostering his inner Gar?
Ahh, reminds me. Incoming Gurren Koma.

From 4chan.
I recently returned from Gainax's Gurren-Lagann panel. I didn't bring my video camera this time, so I'm typing this from memory.
First, they showed the episode one of Gurren-Lagann without subtitles, but I'm pretty sure almost everyone there had already seen it fansubbed. After the episode was over, Hiroyuki Yamaga said, "If you want to see what happens next… I don't care, watch a fansub or something." So there you go: WE ARE FULLY AUTHORIZED TO DOWNLOAD GURREN-LAGANN. Then, people could ask Yamaga about the show.
Some of the important statements follow:
-Because of the bad reaction to episode four, there will not be any more experiments with the animation style.
-The planet Gurren-Lagann takes place on is Earth in the future.
-The mole pig stampede (one of Yamaga's favorite scenes, and mine as well), the crazy-looking animals, and the Gainax cameos were not scripted the way they ended up, but were the results of the animators going crazy.
-Apparently, in Japan, "boys like drills".
-If it is popular enough, Gurren-Lagann may be picked up for a second season after its initial run is over.
-And, finally, someone asked, "Is Yoko really 14?" to much laughter and applause. Yamaga responded that "As the series takes place underground, time may be measured differently. So a year underground may be different from what we consider to be a year." That was met with the most cheering I had heard at the panel yet. Personally, I think it's the best non-committal answer I've ever heard.
WE GOT THE OKAY TO DOWNLOAD FANSUBS!!!
-
Gainax will forever be enshrined in my burning heart as one of the most awesome anime studios in history.
Fudgin' MEGA-WIN!
-
What happens with that girl? Her eyes are strange. Is she human?
Oh,oh, Yoko's become jealous. And the android of the end is awesome.
-
Holy crap. I mean, holy CRAP.
The first episode was spectacular. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series.
edit: Second episode was good, not as jaw-dropping as the first, but I still love this series.
-
Hehe I actually beat you in reaching an anime first Rixter
Just wanted to point out one of my accomplishments XD
-
Why do people find the first episode like one of the greatest things ever?
I thought it was alright.
-
why was there a big applause for the yoko answer?
-
I don't know. Which answer?
