Me and my school's anime club love this series ^^
-
I've seen this at the store, looks like an interesting anime, might check it out.

The guy who provides the voice for Leeron, the gay mechanic, is formerly Vash the Stampede from trigun… I almost cried.

Sprinkles revival powder
Okay, I just stumbled upon a clip from the movie, so I'm going to post it for those that are curious. It's a re-doing of the scene in episode 11 where Simon took out the Genba, with some changes. For the unaware, the first movie covers the first half of the series, and ends when the crew discovers that Teppelin is a Gunman. Instead of taking them on one at a time, here the Generals combine their Gunmen (with Viral standing in for Thymilph) to provide the climatic battle. You also get to hear Cytomander scream like a little girl. Please ignore the woman in the beginning.

one of the most coolest moves ever…still

I've been looking around but haven't found a thread for Gurren Lagann and I didn't want to deprive this sight of a great anime so here you go.
Gurren Lagann was created by Gainax (FLCL & Neon Genesis) and has 27 epiosdes. I own the first four disks of the anime and personally think that it is a breath of fresh air with its beautiful colours and atmosphere. Any fans out there?
-
We had QUITE a large, thread, actually:

So I've heard that the subs for the new Gurren Lagann movie is out. How is this movie anyways?

Well, it's a lot better than the first one, that's for certain. For starters, there wasn't anywhere near as much recycled footage from the series here, thus making it more than just a copy-paste of half the TV-series like the first one was for the most part, and the pacing is also a lot smoother, making the overall story a lot more comprehensible. (Though I don't seem to recall them ever fully explaining what Spiral-power was…) That being said, there were a couple of things that bothered me; For starters, the last movie ended with Team Dai-Gurren defeating the four generals, which here happened before they made it to Teppelin. In this one, the battle for Teppelin is over less than five minutes into the movie, meaning that pretty much the entire battle is skipped. Lame. Also, there was a fair bit of coolness cut out, most notably Simon punching some sense into Rossiu. The fact that the secondary Team Dai-Gurren-members don't die could be taken either way; we did lose their awesome death-scenes, but it also allowed them to get a couple of awesome moments in the final battle. (With one exception:
! Kittanstill dies.)
And speaking of the final battle… _HOLY FING SHIT._* I'm just gonna have to spoiler-tag this because really, if you haven't seen the movie, you really don't want this spoiled.
! The Anti-Spiral actually destroys Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and is about to kill Simon when all of the Team Dai-Gurren members start materializing their own Tengen Toppa Gunmen from the broken pieces, eventually forming an entire army of them led by Simon's Tengen Toppa Lagann. Then the Anti-Spiral throws his Infinity Big Bang Storm and Lordgenome absorbs the energy and gives it to Simon, like in the TV-series, and then all the Team Dai-Gurren-members' Gunmen combine to form Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. And if you thought TTGL and the Grand Zamboa were huge… Let's just say that suddenly, they don't seem all that impressive anymore. So of course, the Anti-Spiral powers up his mecha to the same size, as the two of them both launch a Giga Drill Break at the other, which is literarily so powerful that it distorts the entire freaking universe they're in. The fight also concludes with a fist-fight between Simon and the Anti-Spiral. Did I mention that the final attack is animated like Luffy's final attack in the sixth One Piece-movie?
…So all in all a pretty epic movie, though one that really shouldn't be seen unless you've already seen the TV-series, and I still think that the TV-series as a whole was better. -
Cool I'll give the 2nd movie a watch then, thanks.
BTW I thought it was known that Spiral= evolution and transcendence/advancement.Think of a spiral that just keeps going up and up, transcending/piercing the limits and you'll see why it's considered so powerful.
The anti-Spiral are just the opposite of this concept.
-
Damn, I want to see this movie. I meant to buy the actual DVD from Japan like I did the first one, but I just don't have the money for that. Anyone know if this has been released on the internet anywhere?
And damn, thanks for your foreshadowing Vegard. This is the first time I actually skipped reading a spoiler tag to avoid spoilers of the ending.
I was hoping that the the final battle against the Spiral King would be a separate movie, but it can't be helped I suppose.
Btw, how is the animation/art? Any new music scores?
-
One thing I read is that it has more naked Nia…and a possible Nia rape scene >o>
Chopperrules, check out Tokyotosho.info. THey usually have subbed stuff there a day or so from their release.
-

! Nipples too.
GAINAX used to be pretty famous for those, but it's too much for TV-TOKYO apparently.
-
just watched the second movie and damn, this series always exceeds my expectations
the recycled footage was getting kind of old when the extended final fight kicked in and made everything better
i didnt really think you could make a battle on a more epic scale but they managed to
the nudity was rather unnecessary though… -

The new animation is pretty much on-par with the TV-series, except for one scene which is done entirely in CGI, but there's a good reason for that. And I only noticed three new pieces of music, (not counting the ending-theme and the Sorairo Days-remix played over the final battle) but they were pretty awesome.

No way… Call me a bit pervy but there's just something about Nia. But lol, I didn't think we would ever see [hide]nipples[/hide] even in Gurrenn Lagann.
I heard Yoko's final outfit is even skimpier than in the tv version. :wassat:
And will do, thanks for the tip.

Thanks, was just curious if it would all be recycled music from the series, but I'm glad to hear there are at least a few new pieces.

This movie just ruined the ending to the TV series.
I don't think I could possibly go back to the old version after seeing this.
-
just watch the second movie and holy shit thats posibly the most epic thing ever made and i totaly agree that just ruined the what i thought was perfect ending of the anime its like how i loved the first series of full metal alchemist but after reading the manga i cant fully enjoy it
-
So how is the dub? Are the VA's really good like in the subs? And are the movies dubbed?
-
the dub is pretty good i'd say
the movies are not dubbed yet . don't know if they are going too -
I'd call it below average, but it at least makes a decent attempt to not sound like every other friggin' BZE dub out there. Except, JYB is still present, which is a major negative IMO.
-
So is it worth buying the sets then?
-
I started this show about a week ago, I'm up to about episode 10. This is the second manliest show I've ever seen, beside One Piece. And it's the most concentrated source of inspiration (Twenty-seven episodes. Twenty-seven. And it still makes a lasting impact) in any anime I've ever seen. In terms of the plot and the art and the storyline, it's all really generic stuff. But the show as a whole is still pretty damn good.
-
I weep at the awesomeness of the last fight in the film. I challenge anyone to find a better battle scene than this.
-

My love for One Piece knows no boundaries, but even I have to say TTGL is untouchable in that department.
You're only at ep10 and already feeling this way, wait till you finish the series. You'll grow a third testicle.

You ain't seen nothing yet.
! Akagi, Kaiji, Mazinger Z, Shin Getter Robo, GaoGaiGar, Aim For The Top! Gunbuster! Aim For The Top!2 Diebuster! etc.

Noriko and the Gunbuster versus 12.000 space alien insectoids. Head on.

Hypothetically, where would one find a torrent of the second film with subtitles?

Wow, you need to post more.
AP needs more people of your caliber than meta loving "lulz" seekers.
-
Well, he didn't include Giant Robo OVA in that list, so that was a slight negative on my coolness scoreboard.
-
Perhaps he hasn't seen it.
If "Mazinger Z" = "Shin Mazinger Shougeki!" I'd imagine GR would fit in nice and cozy with his lineup.

Yeah I haven't seen Gaint Robo yet. Or Big O but yeah AP needs more manly shonen. Real manly shonen. Or seinen, of course.

Eh, sorry, but I doubt any of those can possibly top the sheer insane epic awesomeness that is the
! universe sized Giga Drill-clash at the end of the second movie… and if there is, I'm not sure if I even want to see it, as I'm afraid anything exceeding that scene would be so awesome that my brain wouldn't be able to handle it, and that I'd literarily die from over-exposure to pure awesomeness.
…I do plan on checking out GaoGaiGar at some point, though.
-
that is a stupid point. just watch more manly anime already jesus fucking christ.

There have been equally impressive scenes in most super robot shows, notably a good number of the ones Vliegmans listed off. GL didn't invent epic SR scenes, it just introduced them to a new generation of anime watchers.

Make this an oath sworn through courage.

I loved GaoGaiGar. Guy/Gai has the same voice actor as Viral's.

I've been a die-hard robot anime fan since probably before majority of people here were even born, (started watching them when the first Gundam was on air real-time, back in 1979) and even I consider TTGL to set a new high standard in nekketsu Super Robot genre.
(Yes, even more so than Aim for the Top series, GGG FINAL, GR OVA, and G Gundam)
It felt like Gainax was finally stepping out of the shadow of Eva and going back to its roots, by revisiting Gunbuster forumla and taking it to the limits.Vliegman's "just watch more manly anime" doesn't apply to me. Been in this ani-ota field for more than three decades.

That standard might be raised yet…

I come close to a heart attack every time I even think about that.
-
So last night I watched the compilation movies and I really liked them but had some gripes-
Movie 1- THis is prob. my fav. of the 2. While I was a little upset at them removing the introduction of Kittan and sis' it kept most of the fights, even though it rushed the battle against the 3 generalsMovie 2- WHY DID THEY CUT DOWN THE BATTLE AGAINST LORDGENOME FOR?!!? FUCK'S SAKE YOU HAD ENOUGH TIME TO SHOW THE MECHA FIGHT AND YOU CUT IT THE FUCK DOWN?!
Other than that final battle was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.Gotta say rewatching the series makes me think differently of Yoko and Nia, and appreciate them more. I just wish Yoko wasn't so….skimpy wearing.
I plan to get the DVD/Bluray of the movies but I gotta ask- Do they contain 'extras' that show the full introduction of Kittan and sis' along with the full battle against Lordgenome?
-

If there were, it would have been subbed already.
Btw, anyone here kinda disappointed with the Super TTGL design?
