Spider man three coming out "earlier" in china than US

UPI) – "Spider-Man 3" will open in China the day before its North American premiere, a Chinese film importer said, to head off pirated copies flooding the market.

Yuan Wenqiang, president of China Film Group's Film Import & Export Corp., said releasing "Spider-Man 3" in China first – during a peak movie-going season surrounding the weeklong national holiday that kicks off May 1 -- showed Hollywood's respect for the importance of China's audience to Hollywood.

"It will be almost a day-and-date release because of the time difference, but China will see 'Spider-Man' first," Yuan said.

Hollywood studios are choosing to open anticipated blockbuster films in China on or near their worldwide premiere dates to thwart piracy efforts, Yuan said. Despite government crackdowns, pirated DVDs of first-run movies are widely available on China's streets for less than $1 a copy.
As international day-and-date releases have become more popular, the openings for U.S. films released in China, instead of trailing U.S. opening dates by months, have moved steadily closer to simultaneous release

so basically china gets to watch the spider 3 movie before we do not fair…lucky chinesse people

I heard about this. I guess it would just make too much sense to release it in the country it was made.

Wait, what? They're trying to crack down on pirating by helping them? How would releasing it there first do anything but get it on the streets faster? If I'm missing something, can someone please correct me?

But yeah, I don't care all that much, since our release date is right near there. It would be different if they released it in, say, April, then I'd be mad.

I guess China only considers pirated copies ones from the originally showingin another country, and not chinese releases?

I guess they figure if people get a chance to see it in the theatre first, than they won't pay a few bucks for a subtitled videotapes version later.

Well I wasn't intending to see the film the day it's released, so to me it frankly doesn't really matter if China or the US gets it two weeks earlier.
