It's a mix of both. There's 52 cards in the new anime and Meiling exists but parts of movie 2 are rendered non canon so far. Or more likely it's "canon until contradicted". They flashed back to episode 70 so that's still canon but it's mixed with the ending of the manga because the bear Sakura made for Syaoran at the end of the manga is probably important. They sort of gloss over it mostly but it gets really confusing if you think about it.

Uhh….I hope that's a typo I just saw this episode.. What is a rape blossom field? Why are they singing so happily about it?
-
Probs in reference to rapeseed which has in large part been dropped in favor of the term Canola
-
I thought it was weird too but I've heard the term before. Purple Hermit is right, Canola is a type of it. According to Wikipedia it's from the Latin rapum so the original pronunciation isn't like the word rape in English.
-
Meiling was in this episode.
Second best character.
-
Ahhh. Okay that makes sense. I vaguely remember hearing that somewhere.
-
LOL, yeah. When I saw that, I thought they had meant to type "ripe" instead of "rape".
-
There is a fish who's Spanish name is "rape".

Quite a bit of interesting stuff in the new chapter.
! The people saying Sakura would meet her mom at the house were right. That was a great scene, going from memories to her ghost. Oh yeah and Record can not only be used as a camera but is similar to that one stand in Jojo part 5 that can replay memories of a specific area. That makes it a lot more useful than it was originally introduced to be. Nadeshiko seems to have at least some idea of what's going on, which just adds another person besides Sakura (and us) that do. Don't know what Eriol sending back Clow's magic circle means. I love the cross cutting (not exactly since it's a comic but it's similar) between Sakura going into the clock dream and what Akiho is doing at the time. And Akiho seems to be in sort of an out of body experience during the dream, though it was confirmed in an earlier chapter that she does sometimes look out through the cloaked figure's eyes. And even more hints that it's Akiho since it's her robes. This seems to be the first time she's actually seen the cloak in the dream. More vague talk between Yuna and Momo. Something's "resonating".
! Also Akiho apparently gets up when she's in that dreaming state and then later falls down when coming out of it. -
The series true villian: Mike from Portland, has brought in reinforcements this week it seems.
-
Everyone seems to like this episode because it feels like an episode of the original but it's basically a scene for scene copy of an original episode at points and seems like someone sat down and made a checklist of what should be in a CCS episode rather than taking advantage of Clear Card being a new thing. I haven't always liked some of the other episodes as much as other people but this one was probably my least favorite so far, though I did enjoy some parts of it.
-
I haven't watched it, but I'd be more interested if this was actually a full remake of the first one, instead of this "sequel but not really" like pokemon has done over the years.
-
Remakes almost never turn out well. The original series works well still and there's no reason for a remake. There was really no reason for a sequel either but so far Clear Card is pretty good and I'm interested in where it's going. It isn't a "sequel but not really" it is a fullblown sequel. It does have the time update but it's far from the only series that's done that and it isn't really a part of the story.
-
It depends on what attitude you are going in with.
If you go with "this has to recapture everything I felt when I first discovered it" that you are GOING to be disappointed.
Clear Cards works, at least for me, because it still keeps it central premise and theme intact: Joyful innocence.
-
It's nice to see Li getting an upgrade. But why does he seem so sad about it?
-
Rumor is that he is actually in control of the Sakura Cards now. Or he's just pissed he can't help his girl.
-
In control of the cards?
Also I don't see him being unable to help. He just did that. But he seemed annoyed or something he couldn't use an older magic method.
-
Like he is using them because she can't.
Again, just a fan rumor, but I think it is more the frustration that he can't help Sakura and sense the magic. The anime is showing he knows a bit more about what is going on, but Eriol is telling him to just let it play out.
But this is a legit kids show, and we shouldn't go in too deep with the hidden meanings.
-
Oh I see. Yeah it just seemed weird to me. Cause this show doesn't have that much facial detail so a lot of the silent stares come off as pretty vague. I wasn't sure if I had missed something. I don't think I ever saw the previous season of CCS so I didn't know what was really going on coming into this.
Also I was surprised they're just now in middle school! Why are these the most refined children? Lol.
-
It is very likely that Syaoran is using the Sakura cards but the problem with that is that the cards are still in the book they were in before. And Syaoran had no opportunity to get them. One theory says that Syaoran and Eriol cleared the cards out on purpose so the cloaked figure couldn't get them (maybe through a spell cast on the bear he gave back to Sakura at the beginning) but if he is actually using the cards they would have had to be physically replaced. So Syaoran and Eriol cleared the cards out/replaced them so the cloaked figure couldn't get them and that hole left by them not being there anymore is making Sakura's magic go haywire and creating the new cards. It's made even more explicit in the anime that she's creating them unconsciously.
It's all theories though since there's a lot of different parts that potentially contradict each other and it's hard to make it completely coherent.
-

Cardcaptor Sakura, in my view, gets a lot of its charm from the fact that the series portrays an almost perfect idea of childhood. Sakura and co all come from good homes with loving parents. Their teachers are supportive and dependable (a little too much if you get into the manga), and the adults are never portrayed as having evil or disturbing motives or actions (again look at the manga and Mr. Terada). The drama is not from interpersonal conflict, but more reacting to the world around them. Romance is always more of a courtly love concept, and everything is considered an adventure, but always innocent.
That may be a bit too much for someone people in our world because much of what Sakura lives in can easily be corrupted and used against children. I for one love that I can lose myself in a world where I am not going to get a ReZERO like twist, an Evangeleon monologue about the flawed nature of humans, or upskirt fanservice antics of other animes. Like I've said in other threads, this show is comfort food and it is the best kind.
-
It is nice to have a fully innocent series to watch in between my usual violence and wtfuckery. This show could traumatize so many of if it was remotely like ReZero or Madoka.
-
Clamp's written some shit (X was supposedly canceled because it was too violent for the shojo magazine it was in) but yeah, I doubt they'll put anything similar in CCS. Though I would like some actual conflict for once and hope the conflict in Clear Card doesn't amount to secretly helping Sakura like with Eriol.

I've been watching the original Cardcaptor Sakura and I recently saw the episode where she meets the old man who lives alone and invites her into his home and throughout it all I couldn't help but think "Stranger Danger! Stranger Danger!" But no, of course it was completely innocent (and he later turned out to be her great grandfather anyway).

Yeah, lately I've been feeling pretty maxed out on the violent disturbing shit. I think pure innocent stuff like this is just fine as long as it's legitimately entertaining.

X was the worst, but my first CLAMP series was Magic Knight Rayearth, and the majority of that series is straight-forward, then of course CLAMP hits you with a HUGE twist at the end. Which is where I learned how CLAMP works.
I don't remember any particular "twist" in CCS, so you could consider it CLAMP's vacation from the darker stuff.

Was XXXHolic, Clamp? That's the only other series I recalled watching. And I think some series about 4 guys who were…Assassins? Maybe? I dunno, it's hazy.

Yup, xxxHolic was CLAMP. A simultaneous series to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. And the better one, imho.
I . . . . don't recall any CLAMP series that's specifically about assassins. I think I know what you're talking about, but it's not CLAMP.

New chapter. It's pretty short though.
! Most of the common theories were right it seems. Sakura is creating the cards without knowing it and her strong magic is either currently going out of control or will in the future. Yuna is actually doing something directly finally too. I thought it was interesting that it cuts to Akiho after Yuna starts talking about the magic item he stole. It doesn't seem to be the pocket watch since that broke and then he starts talking about the magic object. So it's either the book or Akiho. I think it being Akiho would be more interesting but I think the book is more likely.
! Edit: It could be Momo too I guess but it and Yuna seem like a team like Kero and Yue. I don't know if they're specifically guardians like them but they're very similar. -
CCS is adorable on a stick, but I'm having trouble getting into this one. Maybe it's because I wish CLAMP would do a new series instead of a sequel, or continue a series that was left off. coughlegendofchunhyuangcough
-
Yeah I want Clamp to make something new too but I still think Clear Card is pretty good. I want them to make a non fantasy mech series.
-
Clear Card is fucking great.
Is it the OG Cardcaptor Sakura? No, but as far as decade later sequels go, couldn't ask for anything better.
Hell this is the only show where each of the 3 different endings (series, movie, manga) are all REALLY good.
-

Dunno if they'll go that far. For CLAMP the only non-fantasy series they've made is Chobits, and even that was like fantasy in sci-fi clothing. Fantasy is their bread and butter.
-
I wouldn't call Angelic Layer fantasy. It's the most sci-fi thing they've made. And by fantasy I mean like high fantasy type stuff like MKR. CCS for instance isn't the fantasy I'm talking about. Tokyo Babylon isn't really fantasy either.
-
New chapter out.
! I liked Tsubasa but I'm kind of iffy on any potential more-than-cameo crossovers in Clear Card. Not sure where Clamp is going with Syaoran being in the robe in this chapter but I kind of hope it's not Tsubasa related. It seems really likely though. The likeliest it's ever been. Also another theory confirmation, that the bear Syaoran gave Sakura resulted in the Sakura cards being protected by him.
-
Is anyone even still reading this? There wasn't a chapter last month (and it felt like a really long hiatus) but we actually might be in endgame territory even though before I didn't think ending it in 6 chapters was possible.
! Yuna's goal apparently is just getting more power, which seems pretty generic, so he might not even really care about Akiho and it's all an act, especially since Momo says having so much power in the first place messed with his personality. She also says that he needs to sacrifice something precious, and Sakura uses the word "precious" (it's not the same word used in Japanese in both instances but the same connotations I suppose) when saying that Akiho is her precious friend. So I think that's gotta have some relevance. That and Sakura and Akiho at the end of the chapter are sucked into the clock world at the same time for the first time in the series.
-
I haven't been reading it, even as a CLAMP fan, partly because I'm getting a little tired of Sakura and co. being like the be all end all of the CLAMP world. I wish they would finish some of their other works, like The Legend of Chun Hyang and Legal Drug.
