I'm with the people who didn't think that this 'joke' was funny in the slightest and that it was done in poor taste. I'm sorry, but maybe my sense of humour just isn't as puerile as what would be expected on TEH INTERNETS, but I wasn't laughing then and I'm not laughing now. If you think that I'm being a stick in the mud or a 'moron' because of that, to you I say "pfft". I have a sense of humour and I can take a joke, but my sense of humour is not akin to that of a particularly juvenile pre-schooler's and I expect the joke to be, you know, actually funny. Also, like Malintex_Terek has pointed out, the [at the time former] staff seemed to be going out of their way in saying that it wasn't a joke, and at the very least implied in their postings that Griffin was seriously power tripping 'for realz'. So forgive me for not automatically brushing it all off like paltry nothings and/or responding with infantile spam. If you seriously think that makes me a moron, that's your problem, not mine.

However, while I didn't think that this 'joke' was funny, neither did I flip the hell out about it. After I saw that the board was becoming something similar to what could be scraped out from under the sludge at the bottom of Narutofan's oh so illustrious barrel, I pretty much just left it alone and decided to wait until it sorted itself out. Whether or not it was a joke I figured it would get sorted eventually, and if it didn't then I'd just leave.

In any case, I'm not going to be all hatin' on the staff for this or act like OMG! THE END IS NIGH! because AP was effectively down during the duration of the 'joke', but at the same time I'm not going to be all "oh those AP staff, they are teh lawls! three cheers for them!" over this either. Yeah, it's over and it was in the past, but hindsight doesn't make the 'joke' any less un-funny or immature now than it was then, and I still feel that it was done in incredibly poor taste. Take that however you like.

I hope you admins are all happy. That was the worst joke ever. I'm certain I could of thought of better jokes. Turning this forum into a 4kids one and changing all the character's names to the dub ones and censoring everything. That would of been funny. Hell, i'f you made me, GearSecond and Dragon Warrior into admins, I'm certain that the three of us could of made a ten times better joke than this crap. Considering that the [at the time former] staff themselves were acting like they were in full on panic mode because of Griffin's alleged usurption of total administrative power, I don't really think that I'm OMG TEH DUMNESS because I actually believed what the [at the time former] staff was saying in regards to the aforementioned 'joke'.

How about randomly banning people for no foreseeable reason without bothering to tell them why or reassure them that yes, the staff was just taking the piss the entire time even though they were acting like it was totally serious, no, rly; hiding the bulk of the forums under the pretense that they and all of the posts contained within were deleted; and replacing the announcements forum with "GrIfFiNs PlAcE", or whatever it was called, which was completely overrun with the kind of juvenile – dare I go as far as to say retarded? – spam that you won't even find on the lowest echelons of NarutoFan or 4Kids?

When I got into the board, I found myself banned and I was shocked so bad, I thought ocean banned me but it was Griffin. However I have to sweep all of these embarressing comments I made against him under the past rug.

Well, I may have forgiven the leaders but I still don't like this joke and the leaders should have used their brains correctly.

I think it was because in part, being serious about it, was to propel the plan to make it believable, which is quintessential for any prank to work.

I am very much reminded of the "lesson" episodes from Arrested Development. Michael's attempts at teaching a lesson were never effective, as they were never believable due to various circumstances. George Sr. however, made you believe that each time, you had ripped off a man's arm.

If the same prank had been pulled, only it had gone according to their plan, but everyone was given enough blatant clues to know it wasn't real, would it have been as funny? Would it have been as epic? Can they really be faulted for trying to do something as a genuine prank and not a half-assed one?

(Yea, Michael did manage to teach a lesson eventually, but I'm making a point here! And referencing AD!)

I didn't think it was real, but I thought it was an extreme joke.

Until he went on his second and final banning spree, and then ocean announced it was real. I realized, if it's still a joke everyone's in on it, but it was going to extremes and I was getting sick of it, and was ready to hack and bring him out of his "power" because if it was a joke, it had gone too far.

The staff shouldn't feel that sorry. It was a good idea for a prank, if not a bit mean-spirited in nature. However, it was not their fault that things got out of control. Some members should have reacted better. It is now clear to me just how mature some of them are. Okay, the board's taken over; why not wait for it to be rectified instead of spamming the forum?

So, basically the whole thing was a prank gone awry. The staff shouldn't be sorry; they couldn't predict what would happen.

I thought this whole joke was pretty obvious when the announcement section was the only one changed. If someone truely hacked the forum, wouldn't they delete everything?

I also got to see what it was like to be banned. But meh, I found a way around the banning to at least view the forums (not logged in, though), so I got to see the rise of the chicken comics. Those were su-veet!

Well you do have to realise that the mods and such do have the power to IP Ban, so if it were permanent, I'm pretty sure they would have IP banned you instead…

IP bans are generally considered the next step once someone repeatedly comes back and continues their behavior. If they decide they still want to harass the boards then a subnet ban should be in order, although it's sorta like the buster call, I've never seen it done.

And are we allowed to pick our noses? Will we be banned for that?

I was just a little surprised I wasn't banned during this. Not saying I'm worth banning during a joke, it was just with the little ruining I did last April Fools day and that SuNa even personally sent me a message last month not to ruin it this year..

In my opinion, it was a good joke. Although I must say it was risky because AP is very large, things going messy was something unexpected.
But, do I care if Griffin was a jerk? No, I have life out of the computer, this is just somewhere to have fun. At least I came here to have fun.

Now, there are two types of users:

User #1
Serious looking guy. Personally, he doesn't like anything going out of order. Likes a serious and responsible staff, no time for jokes around here.

User #2
Funny chap. He sometimes awaits for something to happen, like a fine joke. When the forum is always the same, he gets bored, no wonder.

The staff tried to do a joke. You're not helping them if you're complaining all the time.
