so, wait, i still don't get the point. it REALLY was a joke? ok, that just looks like the baaaaad comedy shows on tv where they say "look, we burned your car, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!" or the even stupidest little programs where they throw fake dog shit on people in the street and saying "it's fake, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!"

I liked taboo's comment about egnoring the troll. Think about how uneventfull that day would have been if everyone just egnored AP and griffin for that day. Everything went back to normal the next day.
Instead, all the silly members got excited and had some fun, and all the serios members whined and complained. So, the serios members got all annoyed at the silliness, and the silly members got annoyed at all the complaining.
I like AP cause it is a well controlled environment, where I can enjoy having interesting conversations with my friends here. Yet at the same time, AP is easy going and understanding, and want us to have some fun too. I enjoy being silly sometimes.
In the end, it is Ocean's board, and if he wants to have fun and mess with AP for one day a year, then he has the right to. Either join in the fun, or egnore the silly board for one day. And if it really is a problem for you, maybe there is another board out there, where they don't believe in april fools cause it's dumb.
some of the best things to come out of that day were people accepting it and having fun. like zephos pictures, or bad beat's comment in this thread :P

just try to make the best of the situation. try to learn something from it(and this board)…like dictatorship is neither good in real life nor in the internet. or that if someone pisses you off you have the alternative to just ignore him (on the internet at least) and vent your spleen without hurting other people's feelings.

Well, first the staff was so like "rofl, lets give control to Griffin to scare the users with an April's fool" and then Griffin was so "MWAHAHAHA, I'm the master who bans everyone I don't like" and then the user were all like "OMG, IT'S A KFC CHICKEN DICTATOR" and the staff were like "Oh shit! Griffin wents wild too early and we can't do nothing 'cause we are banned and don't want to ruin the joke" and later we were like "NO MODS! NO RULES! LET'S SPAM!!!" and then we had some fun and today is everything back to normal…

Its truly the end of the world.
I guess to all the forum trolls that visit forums hourly or daily it was. To others like me who just drop in occasionally it was not.
Seeing as this forum seems to have problems every few months/weeks with either sql errors, host changes, crashes etc. I don't see how staging another forum problem is suppose to be funny. And the way it was handeled, and with all the posts from the immature users, it just further reinforces fears that this forum to is slipping into the childish and immature community that most forums fall prey to.
Just because someone say's sorry for a bad decisiion and is forgiven, doesn't mean that the faith in their judgement is not shaken. Like in all communities, the tone and actions are set by the examples of those in authority. So it comes as no shock after learning the admins mindset durring this incident, (and the idea that banning members is funny?) that so many members did and continue to do nothing but spam posts and flames.

I just lurked while the madness was going on. I was shocked, appalled and amused. Seeing as how so many people were randomly banned, I decided to wait it out until order was restored.
I forgive you though! AP is the only place I can discuss One Piece with other interested fans. Are you sure that Griffin can be trusted? He did f-up the site pretty badly. Then again I'm not a mod or admin, so what do I know? XD

But whatever, I don't need or expect an answer, as I doubt i will ever bother to read it. I've expressed my opion of what I thought of another forum crash as a joke. And it seems this thread is about argueing if it was funny or not. Not expressing your opion on it.

We have a lot of members here, and of course they're all free to talk about how they reacted. So of course, you're going to get replies that seem similar.
What you need to keep in mind is: there was no permanent damage; aside from bad timing and some unexpected responses from some members here, the staff had the situation under thumb the entire time; we realized our mistakes and ended the prank early, and apologized. Some members thought it was funny, and some didn't, and that's fine- it's expected. They think you have no sense of humor, and you think that they're all immature. Neither is entirely true, and that's fine too.
And it seems this thread is about argueing if it was funny or not. Not expressing your opion on it.
Arguing and 'expressing your opinon,' is essentially the same thing.

When I first saw this, at my friend's house, I was like "OH GOD WHAT IS HE DOING?! XD", it was pretty late in the joke when I was there.
After a few min I didn't laugh at all, but to be angry at that? Why? The posts of the other people made up for that, it was funny.
I also found people saying "Dude, we got the joke already, stop it's not funny anymore" pretty amusing. I mean, of course it won't be. The users make it funny like they make Arlong Park… Arlong Park. I thought those acted like kids, actually, for taking it SO serious.
The OP forum was there, and by searching your posts you could find the other forums too - AP was still here all along, and people were bitching at one forum. =( -

This is possibly the only Anime board on the internet worth visiting, where everyone can be civil. Compare this to Narutofan or Gaia, fer'instance and APForums is a haven of sanity. Therefore, when I log on to see an Administrator acting like a child and going nuts with his forum 4 days before April Fool's, that's when I start wondering why the hell he's an Administrator in the first place. That's why ultimately, I cared about what was happening with the forum, and even if it was a joke, this sort of shit still makes me wonder about the future of this board. If our Admin is gonna pull stupid-ass jokes like this on a sane board, then why should I even be here?
Second of all, before you all go "Zulen u hav no live mad abot baned from teh internetz", yes. Yes, I was angry that I was banned. I was absoloutely furious. I try not to think of the internet or this forum/its members as a game but rather no different than real life. You all are real people, and I consider the majority of you my friends, and since I have nearly no ties with you all outside this board, that's what got to me the most. You're free to flame me on this, but it's just how I think.
Thirdly and lastly of all, I still don't think the Staff even understands what they did was stupid. Too many people in this thread laughing at it because they weren't even banned. They were able to laugh at the joke, they even had their own board. However, some of us were just stuck outside the board, with no contact, and even if we did contact them, they would most likely laugh at us and call us stupid for falling for a "joke". Frankly, I think that's retarded, and the worst part is, even though the first post suggests the Staff extends their "deepest apoligies", a closer look will unveil them still thinking the forum took it too harshly. "Jeeze, it's just a joke, we're still sorry though". I thought this forum was better then that, and I never expected the Admin to act like this, but apparently, I was dead wrong.

Well, at the time it was happening I assumed that anyone who was banned was in on the joke. That seems like the normal way to do this kind of April Fools joke. I never even considered they weren't told until later.

No, we weren't told. Not even hinted. It came out of nowhere, and there wasn't even a way to browse the forum once you were banned. It was really retarded.
Furtermore: it just said "You have been banned for the following reason: Bad Attitude". I got no explanation. Just was told I had bad attitude towards God knows what and was banned.

Yeah, but I couldn't figure out how to log off, since I had set the forums to log me on automatically every minute. And deleting internet passwords didn't work either, and I ended up deleting a bunch of shit I needed.

I tend to systematically ignore it, or I'm not here and ignore it naturally. When the tardism was going out of control I think everyone at AP got a little more hot-headed than we should have, but now that I'm sane I've got to say the class division on this board is really only polarizing the pleasant environment.
AP was always great because there were mature, educated people here, which was the primary reason I registered here. But, even with my interest in OP rapidly decaying, that doesn't mean I won't stop coming here; afterall, I haven't seen Pokemon in five years but I still regularly go to a Pokemon forum.
But, all the mature members of AP either leave the forums altogether or refrain from posting in the open boards, since they can't take the influx of tardism. Instead of filtering out the tardism and sending the idiots back to KF, Narutofan, Gaia, AnimeSuki and ANN, we're letting them in en masse.
I still haven't caught up with OP for technical reasons, but I'm less interested in the manga right now since I've grown disillusioned with Oda's writing style and I'm disgusted by the rampant, ravenous tardism going on in the Manga forum.

Well, certain people on this board could still keep in contact/discuss stuff even though Griffin head many of the forums; I didn't lose any of my permissions with him around, and I doubt the SM folks, did, either. So, I'm suspecting they were just treating the whole mess as business as usual.
But, I've got to say while I see merit in what you're saying, AP isn't really the place for that kind of community anymore. You really should find another forum and just come here for OP. :|
