How does one draw from one's head

Lots of practice drawing from life and references, and studying the figure + perspective/foreshortening. Unless you only want to draw unrealistic static blobs.

ah, this thread shot right out at me. I can draw. yep, I can, but I can not draw from my head. I can not come up with charicters, or story lines and put them to paper. I give credit to people who can do this, as it is a tallent.
I guess you would read a lot, or study other media, to get ideas. Create from what is around you. Taboo's little weekly comics come directly from life situations.

if you want skill, then you have to practice drawing every day and understand what flaws that you see on paper.
However if you are in it for creativity, experiment a little. See what works and what doesn't.Most of all find something that inspires you. I remember a couple months back that I got total artist's block and I couldn't think of anything to draw. Just draw what you feel, or at the least try to make a list of possible ideas.

I just think of characters and stories everytime I've got some time, I just come up with the weirdest settings and characters, and when I find something I like I try to put it on paper. There are times when I can't come up with anything, thats when I go watch some anime, films, read some books, play some RPG games to get some Ideas. Its no talent to put whats in your head on paper, it just takes awfully lot of practice. If you can't get something to look right just draw it over and over again. I do that with characters, I just draw some simple person and then start putting some details that define it on. Then I draw dozens of different positions and settings. You just have to draw alot, even if you draw only one sketch a day, thats practice, though, of course drawing more stuff is always better.

I could just say what the others said, because that's true, but I don't want to repeat everything. I'm glad I have the talent to draw, it's maybe the only talent I have, but I make mistakes if I don't pay attention.
Just draw until you know how to do it, what you can do good and have found a way to draw things you imagine. With every drawing/picture, you get better. It alway hits me when I look at pictures I drew a year ago - I'm surprised how different my drawings look compared to back then.

I have the same issue.
I can basically create anything realistically in my head. Altohugh it has gotten slightly more like movie CGI lately.
Anyways, I wish I could put something on my head and drain a pciture or video from my head.
I'm a terrible artist. I can't draw a perfectly straight line witha ruler sometimes.
