Fight Match-Ups (spoilers)

Okay, now that some of the major players in this arc have been introduced, let's get some theories as to what the major fights will be like.

On one side, we have the 8 Straw Hats and (more than possibly) Brooke. On the other side are the 4 Big Bads - Moria, Hogback, Absalom and Perona. We know those 4 are going to be enemies. Additionally, possible enemies include Cindry, Sandals Brooke, Hildon, and the Frankenstein Absalom was working on in the last chapter. Less likely major enemies are Moria's three henchmen and Bearsy.

So who fights who, and why? Here are my guesses:

Luffy vs. Moria

I would think self-evident.

Nami vs. Cindry
-As much as Usopp vs. Cindry was set up early in the arc, Oda always goes for the girl vs. girl, and Usopp vs. Frankenstein seems more like an Usopp kind of fight.

Usopp vs. Frankenstein

Fighting scary, hulking masses and taking punches to the face with manly courage seems more of an Usopp thing than a Nami thing.

Sanji vs. Absalom

Pervert battle.

Chopper vs. Hogback

Doctor battle

Robin vs. Perona

Obligatory catfight.

Brooke vs. Evil Brooke

Yohoho battle

This leaves Franky and Zoro, whom I just don't see there being opponents for at the moment.

I don't think cindry is a bad person so we probably won't see her fight anybody.

Not only would Robin and Perona be the obligatory catfight, there's aso the effect of Perona's ghosts to consider.

Touch them and you have your will to live essentially sucked out of you. Robin JUST got her will to live BACK, but she can only attack by touching. Can Robin resist the ghost's effects long enough to win? Is she the ONLY one who can because of her will?

I have a feeling Ussop would battle the guy with the arrows who woke Moria up. Ussop need his first true sniper battle, so he can learn how to dodge and detect targets better. Enemy at the gates is one of my favorite movies because of the sniper battles. I hope ussop becomes a deadly sniper like that.

Sanji will fight Abaslom. I think he is a push over and once Sanji finds away over his invisibility, he would be done for.

Zoro will fight the guardian and gain a sword.

Chopper vs Dr hogback

Franky vs this new frankstein zombi

Robin vs Perona, Robin can still kick butt while being EMO.

Nami vs Hildon

Brook will fight Moria than luffy will step in when brook cant finish the deal.

Kingudora, that's some theory about Brooke. Didn't think about it, right now it seems very very possible. Although, no SH material gives up without a fight. =)
There are the Big 4 here and Big 4 from the SH crew excluding Zoro for Guardian [who I think has Brooke's shadow]. Yeah, I count Robin as Big 4.

Luffy vs. Moria [big 4]
After Luffy stuck somewhere with/without Moria, this gets in. Obviously the last fight to be finished, and possibly one of the first to start [following the normal small arc thingy, he should be last to start fighting, but there's a Shichibukai after all].

Zoro vs. Guardian [2nd strongest for Brooke's shadow]
Leader takes on Boss, First mate takes on Brooke's shadow. =)
Both swordsmen [for now at least].

Sanji vs. Absalom [big 4]
It just seems to fit perfectly, not only for pervpower. Sanji's pretty clever to figure how to beat not inked people.

Usopp vs. Hildon [not big 4]
A fucking BAT. What's more of a test for a sniper?

Nami vs. Cindry [not big 4]
Although Nami usually burns her opponent HARD, it fits to have her waking Cindry up. Cindry seems to be a weak spot this arc.

Robin vs. Perona [big 4]
ALLOUT CATFIGHT

Chopper vs. eh.. well.. err.. H-Hogback.. who is a big 4.. and Chopper isn't.. uh..

Franky vs. um.. the last Zombie got his shadow and now he fights another SUPA?
..yeah, messed up with this big 4 thingy… =(

Brooke fights some other dude to be revealed later after losing to Moria.

Franky vs Frankenstein dude, just seems perfect, a cyborg vs a guy whose been stitched up with other peoples body parts if he is indeed like Frankentstein.

Luffy vs Moira, thats obviously going to happen, with a Brooke cut in half way?

Chopper vs Hogback, Doctor vs Doctor

Ussop vs Hildon, see if old Ussop can pull off the Enies Lobby stunt again?

Zoro vs guardian…duh gets a new sword for his trouble.

Sanji vs.......not sure something to combat his Devil Jambe.....

Brooke vs. Moria - Giving his comments about finding him before his 2nd life ends and fighting, I find it doubtful he's not going to fight, or else that would've been absolutely pointless and even contradictary. Though it could be Luffy fighting him initially then Brooke taking over eventually, or Oda might (unfortunately) just let Luffy fight him, then Brooke might face someone else.

Luffy vs. Hogback - Depends on how the above works, Hogback himself might be one of the greater threats and maybe more suited to fighting Luffy. Though if he fights with his scapels or some weapon primarily, then Hogback might fight Zoro, Moria and Luffy, Guardian against Brooke (though if h is sword is worth anything, Zoro will likely be the one to fight him). Giving the way his world-class abilities, and how seems to have altered everyone of the crew members, maybe even Moria himself, along with the island, and from the way he acts and talks others, he doesn't seem to be in a position below them and I'm he might be too much for Chopper, though all that might just be his worth and not fighting skills.

Zoro vs. Guardian

Robin vs. Perona

Sanji vs. Absalom - Both seem perverted, and Abslaom was the one who smashed him against the ship in their earlier encounter.

Franky vs. "Mario"

The rest might just fight other high-level zombies, ghosts, etc…

Sanji and Nami vs Absalom I have been thinking that Nami will join Sanji in the fight since Absalom can become Invisable so Nami will take off her top and Sanji gets a nose bleed and the blood goes on Absalom just like in Dragonball Yamcha vs the Invisable man

I agree with Doctor vs Doctor. Interesting match-up.
I can foresee during the fight, Hogback sees the Rumble Ball and is very intrigued by it (since he sounds like an obsessed researcher+doctor), so maybe we'll end up with more explanation here.

Luffy vs moria : it's pretty set in stone .

zoro vs guardian : everybody know powerful swordsmen are always for zoro

franky vs absalom/hogbag : for me it's between the 2 , franky seems to get 2type of opponents , the weird ones or the massive ones , nero ,fukuro and the ball captain were fitting in one of those 2 categories . The instant i saw absalom's lion face , ihad the feeling that he could be franky's opponent but if absalom is a martial artist then he is for sanji .
For hogbag , it's really because of his design that i think that he could be for franky (i can't picture chopper defeating one of the main boss of this arc).

sanji vs absalom ( if absalom is a martial artist )

robin vs perona : perona needs to be defeated by somebody strong because being defeated by nami always kill the badass female character reputation ( and nami's fight always feels fake for me , her opponents always lose their brain the moment they start fight with her) .

chopper vs zombi 741/hogbag : i don't know why but i have the feeling that this fight could get very emotional due to chopper ''s personality ( no matter who his opponent is between the 2 ).But as i said earlier , i can't picture chopper defeating one of the main villains of this arc but anything can happen,this is OP after all .

usopp vs hildon : seriously usopp need to fight him , he is the best opponent for a sniper .

nami vs cindry : cindry seems to be brainless to begin with , this time nami would have a fight that doesn't scream Character Induced Stupidity .
That is if cindry fight.

Even if you assume he didn't tell the truth, the fact about the shadow is true, and Hogback's reaction at the mention of Brooke didn't seem to be one you'd expect if they aren't on unfriedly terms.

What makes you all think that Robin would go for a "catfight". Robin never fought another female. In fact, the only fight she ever had was Yama, that Hurley-lookalike on Skypiea. I know everyone got pissed by the recent match up "Nami vs Calipha" being all character ruining and what not. But if anything, that trend will not stop just because you do not want. And Cindry doesn't look like one of the bad guys, too.
So, I'd say:

Luffy vs Moria (boss fight)
Zorro vs Guardian (in case he isn't Brook, which isn't clear at the moment)
Nami vs Perona (fighting styles would match, both use stuff that's close to what one might call "magic")
Usopp vs Hildon (projectiles are the best against flying enemies, the underling who shot the arrow probably isn't a fighter. There was another one of those with a sword on his back, wouldn't that make him a Zorro opponent??)
Sanji vs Absalom (he seems more like an acrobat-style fighter, jumping onto the tombstone with such ease. Also Sanji might be pissed if he ever gets wind of the bathroom scene. And I never want to hear the Dragon Ball nosebleed reference ever again.)
Chopper vs Hogback (doctor fight)
Franky vs the centaur the new mario (because that'd make a Centaur vs Centaur / Frankenstein vs Frankenstein battle xD)

Dunno about Robin at the moment though.

Even though it won't happen, for fun you could expand on the Zoro + Sanji rivavly thing by having Sanji fight the swordsman, and Zoro fighting the perv. Then at the end they're free to boast and wind each other up about it.

I think that Robin vs Perona is a good match-up because of their characteristics and fighting styles. It would be cool if Perona tries to attack Robin with the negative ghost. Then Robin should say something like: I lived 20 years long with this feeling. Clutch

My predictions are:
Luffy vs Moria Zoro+Brooke vs Guardian Since the guardian has some relation to Brooke (Maybe Brooke's flesh or his shadow formed into a sort of anti-Brooke) I am guessing that Brooke will be included at the start of the fight but I'm guessing that at some point Zoro will take over and finish the fight since the guardian is a sort of swordsman. will probably be fighting with Luffy.
Sanj+Nami vs Absalom Nami is obviously going to be pretty ticked that he attacked her while she was bathing and will probably attack him the first chance she gets. But Absalom will probably be much stronger than her and Sanji will swoop in and save her and fight Absalom in her place. Kind of the opposite of what happened with CP9.
Robin vs Perona Robin really needs a fight since she has only had one actual fight so I am going to say that she fights Perona.
Chopper vs Hogback
Ussop vs The Arrow Guy + (maybe) The Other Little Guys A bow+arrow vs slingshot battle makes sense and would be pretty cool. Maybe the others will use some form of projectiles but I am sure they will take part in the battle since they were kinda introduced as a triplet.
Franky vs Various Zombies Franky is pretty much a one man army with all of his weapons. I can see him being matched up with an army of zombies and then he will probably have to take down some of the bigger ones like the one Hogback was working on.

I could see her perhaps getting defensive of Hogback, but in a fundamentally comical way.

I also wonder if there could be a point at which they feel compassion for the zombies. They're not the ones who created their fate, so maybe they'll try for a "cut off the head, and then leave Thriller Bark adrift with hundreds of bored zombies on it" approach.

Edit: It would be akin to the people of Morgan's base... they weren't inherently against Luffy and Zoro, but were pretty much bulldozed into it by their leaders.

Personally, I'm mostly interested in this matchup because of what Perona's ghosts do to people upon contact versus Robin's recently re-affirmed will to live and the fact her powers rely on contact.

It´s a mini arc after all so the fights don´t need to be extensively long. And I´d actually find it rather amusing if Robin one-clutch KO´s Perona.

I interpret her weak spot to be that she´s helpless when she´s conjuring the ghosts because of mental concetration, meditation or stuff like that. She´s probably great having her enemies far away from her real body somebody like Robin doesn´t have to stand near to be close to her.

Pretty basic:

Luffy - Moria (he'll get his ass whooped sooner or later)
Zoro - Bodyguard (he has a sword)
Sanji - Absalom (yes, like Yamucha, maybe Sanji'll even get dropped)
Franky - Mario (who wus maed better?!?!?!)
Robin - Perona (catfight, Robin shows she has balls and doesn't just grab them)

Somewhere along the way, maybe Usopp'll get in some sharpshots, Nami will slap with her titties, and Chopper will confront Hogback. Since I figured he'd shine in this arc somehow.

I'm surprised that so many people are forgetting Hildon. With him showing up so much lately, I think it's likely he'll fight. Probably Usopp, since he seems a little too cowardly to fight a group of people. And of course, sniper vs. flying.

Robin vs. Perona. Her ghosts can be touched, so that would be a unique challenge. Robin will most likely have to find Peroa (or was it Verona?) to hit her.

Also, the fight presents an interesting opportunity. Those ghosts can force people to fight emotions. I think Perona will force Robin to laugh….

Zoro vs. bodyguard. Whether so not that thing is related to Brooke, he looks like a basass swordsman.

Absolom vs. Sanji and Nami. Now, I'm normally against handicap matches, but with Absolom's ability I think it might be necessary. Nami will try to find Absolom while Sanji does the fighting.

Maybe Nami can use one of her climatact clones as bait? She makes a seductive, nealy naked clone of herself, throws her voice from behind a rock, then Sanji bursts out of the ground to KO the lion man. Everyone wins.

Franky and Chopper vs Hogback and that mario thing. I can't decide who fights who now.

I agree with you there, and I think that Brook and Luffy will tag up against Moria, simply because Brook has a score to settle, and Moria is just so damn big, that Gear 3 just might not cut it by itself.

Hadn't considered Franky vs. Mario. That makes a lot of sense.

I don't think Brooke will just fight against Moria and lose, though. Consider that Oda hasn't shown Brooke's fighting style yet, so he'd want to establish it in a full fight sequence. Also consider that, in the past, even when Strawhats had supreme beef with the main bad guy, Luffy was still the one to kick their ass (Arlong, Wapol, and sort of Kuro). Although you could interpret Robin and Franky clutching and elephant-piledriving Spandam as an exception.

As has been stated before, it's more likely Brooke will fight a relatively minor character so we see his fighting style (I don't think he's of the LZS level of strength), and then meet up with Luffy against Moria.

Nami vs. I dunno lol!

My predictions are similar to the ones most of you guys made. Maybe Usopp will fight that archer yokai thing that woke up Moria? Who could Nami fight, if she must fight at all? Cindry, so far, seems out of the question as an enemy character unless Oda shocks us. It would be cool to see Brook fight, but we need to see more of him and confirm who's side he's on!
All together, I can't wait for these battles!

I really hope Brooke defeats Moria. We already got a "fight and lose, then Luffy PWNs him" deal back in Drum, when Chopper fought Wapol. It would establish Brooke as a person who'd go on the frontlines, has more than just music to his name. Then again, that's contradictory to how every OP arc has gone down… eh, I dunno. Usopp vs. Frankenstein does have lots of funny opportunities for Usopp to prove his manliness. I can see him getting punched through a wall then getting up and using Usopp Hammer to smack him down.

All we really know now is that Moria, Hogback, Absalom, and Perona are major villains in this arc and will be facing the Straw Hats. As for which Straw Hats may fight the mysterious four of Thriller Bark, I'm predicting…

Luffy VS Moria-given

Chopper VS Hogback-doctor VS doctor, plus this seems to be a development arc for Chopper. We may even see the return of Chopzilla.

Sanji VS Absalom-"HOW DARE HE VIOLATE NAMI-SAN AND ROBIN-CHAN!!!"

Robin VS Perona-Given since she hasn't had a fight since Skypiea

Also, keep in mind when assuming fights with characters such as Cindry, Hildon, and the guardian that not every character in this arc is a villain. Something about Cindry makes her seem like she'd be an ally of the Straw Hats to me. And we really know next to nothing about the guardian other than the fact that he carries a katana and he has the same laugh as Brook.

And remember there are some characters in this arc yet to be introduced (general zombies), so lets save the minor character fight theories for until we've delved deeper into this arc itself. If there's one thing we know here, it's that you really cannot predict Oda.

The Perona / Robin fight is interesting. If math is right and robin is negative and the ghost are also negative then when they connect they could make her cheery (because two negatives maike a positive in math)

No. It was clear that Sanji could beat Pearl, but took the lumps anyway because he was holding out for Zeff's life. And it was implied that he would have done much better againt Gin, but was too injured. Neither case was him entering a fight he wouldn't normally win. Unlike Sanji defending the Baratie, Brook would only be fighting for the sake of fighting, because he sure as hell isn't beating Moria.

The biggest thing people rely on is that he is a musician. Something that Luffy has been wanting ever since One Piece began. He also sort of has the "I can't join you because of X problem which Luffy ends up helping him" thing going on.

I still have my doubts though. Franky just joined and having another one join after in such a little time is weird. Also, apart from Luffy and Franky, the other strawhats really haven't accepted Brook. Actually, the way that Oda had Luffy asking that old talking tree to join his crew without thinking about it could be a way to tell us not to take it so seriously.

Perona vs Robin i like the idea of how she'll lose her will to live right after the Enies Lobby incident, but I like more the fact that she apparently cannot be attacked like that but her attacks rely on it.
Chopper vs Dr. Hogback AND some minions of zombies cuz Dr. Hogback doesn't seem very strong so he should have the portrait zombies or something to make it more interesting
Iono who should fight Absolom though. Probably Franky just to show him off more
The rest of the SHs could fight off the zombies or run away
Brooke could possibly take the Frankenstein or giant Bear zombie just to show what he's made of too.
If Hildon does "fight" i could see Usopp just shooting him down very quickly.
I don't think Cindry will fight. She seems to not really like what Hogback is doing. So I think she'll be the "ally" or "damsel in distress" of this ark.

What if Cindry is playing everybody for suckers? For example, after Hogback revived her, maybe he thought he succeeded in brainwashing her too. But all this time she just pretended to be brainwashed, waiting for a chance to escape. Being a famous actress, it'd be pretty easy to act like the creepy maid she is right now, especially in front of Hogback. I say she'll turn out to be an ally of the Strawhats, not an opponent.

I think Perona's gonna fight Nami. Chopper'll take Hogback (I dunno why), Brook is the bouncer for now, so Zoro can take him, and that zombie that Hogback was making when the crew popped in can fight Franky. Absalom vs Sanji is obvious.

Maybe…unless Perona has a dummy body. The latest chapter seems to suggest that. So, a "clutch" might not be all it takes to end it.

That and, Oda can use a good 2 or so pages on Perona messing with Robin's emotions. I swear that would be gold if it happens...

But all this time she just pretended to be brainwashed, waiting for a chance to escape. Being a famous actress, it'd be pretty easy to act like the creepy maid she is right now, especially in front of Hogback. I say she'll turn out to be an ally of the Strawhats, not an opponent.

Still, Robin vs Perona would be dead boring. Either Perona's ghosts don't work on Robin because she's over her depression by now so she can "Clutch" the immobilised Perona with ease (since Perona's power seems to be a bit like Ino's from Naruto).
Or Perona owns Robin in an instant because Robin cannot attack without making contact plus all effects done to sprouted limbs effect her real body too.
Summary: It's either Robin 1HKOing Perona or Perona 1HKOing Robin.

Hmm, that's what you'll get with no real Robin fight before and considering her powers.
There's plenty enough ways to create opponents to have a long fight with Robin, right?
Take into account "long" is around a chapter and a half, that's a matter od minutes. Even the Yama fight went around almost as much.

Okay.. we know Robin's not the typical action figure, and only uses her ability to fight. She needs to see her opponent to be able to produce stuff to hit him, but can easily find an invisible one if sprouting enough hands around. Also, she mainly uses hands on locked poses to have breaking them easier.
If all we got now is Perona's whole ability [which I doubt], we can have something like Robin goes easily to Clutch her but turns out injured/despaired, with the theory of Perona's not having a real body. Dunno, continue by your own, I'm out of ideas. ^^
