Colored Manga Update

It's been awhile, so I decided to update everyone on how things are going. I was just going to wait until Capter 2 is done but it had been delayed(so many times) so I decided it'd be best to give people a little update. Besides I take short breaks while coloring and like to see people's comments.

Chapter 2, so many delays. We've come far, we have 4 coloring staff, 3 Cel Shaders and 1 Soft Shader. We have a proof reader, and a translator.

Chapter 2 is, like it was months ago, Page 6, but I'm REALLY working on it this time and doing everything within my power to prevent the coloring from being lost, again. Hopefully this is the last time i color it, because Alvida's final design(in her fat form) is based on this page.

It's 80% done. But I have Alvida's Mace and most of the top panel left, as well as a few details I have to make sure arn't missing.

I've also updated the text AND the coloring, due to a couple big errors missed at the last minute.

Just a little preview of things to come, although the coloring has improved.

So Just thought I'd update everyone interested in the colored Manga. If you have any questions, go ahead and ask them here. I'll check back after page 6 is done.

You can find bits scattered around but the only full page available is the one I posted, which is Chapter 2's title page.

I still think your sky-blue is too strong and could use some whitening up.

Colors are still waaay too bright and very flat. Not enough shading/highlights/reflective light.

I have to second that. Especially the brightness flatness of the colors.
Luffy's skin isn't too appealing, either. ^^;

Well he said they improved and if I remember correctly that picture was done ages ago.

Did you guys do Ch. 1? Anyways I'm looking forward to your release, the more ppl/groups doing whatever (scanlation, fansub, colouring, etc) for OP the better ^.^

I decided to forget Chapter 1.

I told Silk he can go it(all soft shaded) but he demands it's cleaned to perfection. Someone who wants to be our cleaner is trying(although every time I try to give him a real test someone else chimes in and he does theirs, and doesn't understand it wasn't really my test) so it's taking time.

I think that the super bright colors fit One Piece pretty well, actually. I kinda like it the way it is.

The only thing I don't like about that page is that the sky seems to be a bit… pinkish. Luffy's great, and the birds... well, I never really thought of them as that gaudy, but they look good.

You posted that same exact image 3 months ago in another thread. And I can't believe you're only on Chapter 2. Not to offend, but I could have colored an entire arc (terribly of course) in these past 3 to 5 months.

That's like… 2 pages a week.

I don't like the skin color you used for Luffy, he looks kinnda ill. Apart from that, it doesn't look that bad for me, though you should really speed up if you want anything done.

I've changed Luffy's skin color.

I actually haven't used the ne wone yet. THe crew's colors are….well I originall got most of them from Color Walk 2's cover, and I made Robin's skin more of a mocha to fit the Anime, but then went back and got it from another Volume cover.

So the crew's is still being tested. I want them to be absolutely perfect.

Almost no coloring was done, and if you compare both of the Chapter 2 covers, you'll see I've made some font changed as well as fixed a few mistakes.

I do intend for the colors to darken a bit , and by the time they hit Lougetown not be as bright. I've also started to redo some colors to a much less saturated version, which really helps.

I've had...issues preventing me from continuing, Zulen, Page 6 was lost at least 3 times, I've been sick, and the holidays only ended a month ago.

Once the Pallette is done the Morgan arc will be quick, and I can star tthe Buggy Pallette.

The fonts aren't too nice, and the text is too high. Plus the picture tilts to the side. Black lines are pixeled too.
Fix those before we start talking about the drawing itself. I guess.
Anyways, I really think you should have bumped your old thread.

PS. Like I said before, I can design a site for you easily enough if you want, although not coded.. =(

Umm….I think the tilt is a trick of the eyes because the picture is pretty much as straight as it gets. They are scans anyways, everythings fine, I don't see anything pixelated too badly. The picture was made tilted and I think it's tricking your eyes when you look at it, because of the camera angle. If you have a problem with that talk to Oda and have him redo it for ya :P

And I'm coloring manga in photoshop, if I needed to make images or anything I can make them myself, thanks.

No, I can kinda see what he means. Look at the sides, Gearsecond. Particually the top. One side seems to have more space than the other, so it looks like it's tilted.

I think the left side slants because the bottom right seems to be a Right Angle, so it's probably just Oda messed up and didn't draw a straght line.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, my cleaner and translator are AWOL and not resplying to my PMs, even though one was on yesterday(the 22nd) and the other was on in our own forums today(the 23rd) and I PM'd him while he was on. I can't do page 7 unless someone cleans off Coby in the top right, and I can't finish chapter 2 without any translations.

uh, just so you guys know, the tilt is not oda's fault. it happens all the time when you SCAN it. that's why when you scanlate something, editors always make sure that all the scans are rotated/skewed properly before further editing.

looked fine in black and white, and noone ever gets a perfect scan rotated exactly. If I ever see a page horrendously out of place, I'll gladly twist it into the proper angle. But the bottom is still flat and the lines curve a bit, it's not entirely the scanner's fault.

Aye, if you say that I can't really do anything. Those are your colorings =)

btw, pretty much all the examples you gave [inclusing 2 avatars], no offence, but they aren't too great. And all you do is say you got better, I think you should give a proper example if you want proper critism..
And an advice for the saturated color is simply staying away from the right part of the colorchooser, far away as possible while keeping the same color. Not much of an advice, but it's always better when someone else says it lol

I try more now, but it's hard to do that with the color Yellow, it's a bright color by nature and looks terrible if it's not pure yellow.

As for people coloring, I have me, 2 other Cel Shaders and one soft shader. Problem is until chapters 1 3 and 4 are cleaned(as well as some parts of chapter 2) noone but me will be working, and like I said my cleane risn't responding to PMs, neither is my translator. If ther'es one thing that makes me really made it's the people that join and dissapear without an excuse. They log on, I see them, but they never awnser. So it's kinda stuff, since I'm no cleaner, I'll ruin the page. Silk's no cleaner and CHapter 1 is in desperate need of cleaning.

I have a backup plan, but it involves bringing in the pros, which my instinct is telling me will try to run the place and act like celebrities. I found one translator over at Mangahelpers and THere's already some cleaners out ther eI could probably ask to do some side work. But all this means that, even if I find people to do side work it's going to be delayed more. so if anyone sees rs on(meh, I forgot the numbers that come after rs) let me him know I need the translations, because he's obviously not replying to my PMs.

oh well. I started working on Page 8, I had to skip page 7 until either I can clean or I get it cleaned. I guess I should be working on it now. Well, it's either that or...God of War II...

Must focus.....must get work done. Small page, 3 people to color, no problem....deep breathe you will ge tthe entire page done tonight.

Ok, I'm gonna see how long a full page takes me once I finish cleaning up my mess on it. I had to redo some lines.
