This encoding and lowering the file size, can just anyone do it with freeware or do you need some know-how and/or software?

My bro wants to be able to watch Slam Dunk on something (he tried buying an iPod, but iPod doesn't deal well with avis and/or the codecs that Slam Dunk needs) and it would be cool if I could convert all of that into episodes he could watch on his old DS.

Also, could someone post a link to the exact flash card you want to get, because I am new to this flash card business, thanks in advance.
