Punchout!! (NES) , Castlevania II: Simon's Curse(NES) , Fire Emblem 1-6 (not including 2), Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Playstation), and Quest 64.
Clayfighters? Quest 64? Either you guys are joking, or are into some really awful games.
Anyhow, I'm not sure what this definition of "Retro" entails, but some of my favorite pre-2000 games are Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy Tactics, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Soul Calibur. Retro enough?
Best retro game?
I'd have to say Super Mario Bros, hands down.

Hey, Retro to me means games that I havne't played in a long time and bring back memories. Quest 64, in particular, was that one game I just couldn't beat. Seeing as how I rented it, I only got to that demonic woods place before I got hopelessly mauled over and over again before I had to return it.
I'm in a moral quandry right now…
or
There Can Be Only One!
Personally I'd say my fave was either Legend of Zelda or Link to the Past….although Super Mario Kart is fun too. DAMN! I can't decide lol
Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 2, Super Mario World.
I could go on, but then this post will become a pain in the ass to read.

Ah, good 'ol Quest 64. The final boss was kind of easy IMO. Just keep using the rock avalanche, dodge his attacks and the final boss is defeated.
Other retro games I enjoy/enjoyed playing…
N64
Poke'mon Stadium
Super Mario 64,
Poke'mon Snap (hitting PKM with apples for the win XD)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
NES
Kirby's Adventure
Super Mario Bros
Playstation
Crash Bandicoot (sp); Warped!
I love:
Crash Bandicoot
Sonic 1-3 and Sonic and Knuckles. One is a personaly favortie because it's the easiest, but 2 through sonic and knuckles is a great plot, with all sorts of extra cool tricks in each one.
SUper Mario Bros/Duck Hunt cartridge. Still have my original.
If it's restro enough I like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Super Mario World is the classic arcade game, wish I had a way to play it at home, I couldn't get past that castle with the Boo in it though….
Let's see:
MegaMan 1-3
Sonic 1- Knuckles
Super Mario Bros. 3
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Super Metroid
Biker Mice from Mars

I grew up without a home console, and since I doubt many of you are going to mention gameboy or game gear, I'll pick my list from those.
Super Mario Land 2, Wario Land, Wario Land 2/3 (They were really similar)
Mario Picross, Zelda: Link's awakening, Zelda: Oracles and Ages,
Kirby's Dreamland 2, Mario Tennis, and TMNT Fall of the Foot.
For Game Gear: Tails' Adventure (which I still say is the greatest sonic-related adventure game ever), All of the Sonic Games (except for sonic Blast, sonic chaos, and sonic spinball),
The Lion King, and Shining force: the sword of Haijya.
Mr. Do
Qix
Ghostbuster (c64)
Jumpman
Has anyone EVER played any of these? bes oldschool
It's sad… a while back I got some old Commodore VIC-20 (early home-computer) games and got more of a riot out of the educational maths game than anything else.
Putting the wrong answers in and making it go "bzz"
Square games:
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
Brave Fencer Musashi
Super Mario RPG -LoSS
Nintendo Games:
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario World
Legend Of Zelda: LttP
MORTAL KOMBAT!
was super mario RPG a Square game?
I also find it funny, that someone menchioned Castlevania 2 because, if you've ever seen the angry nintendo nerd he really disagrees. XD
I however have no opinion on which of the 3 is better.
Are N64 and PSX considered Retro? I don't really think so.
My picks are any megaman for NES Super Metriod. Zelda, FF6 and, I always have fun with anticipation. Oh wait, I just remembered Dr mario! ha ha ha

I love Game Gear.
The shor tbattery life and the weird levels in Tails' Adventure made me dislike it so I'm basically stuck playing pac-man.
My new roommate moved most of his stuff in yesterday, and he has every NES game that I need!!! Check out what I'm playing now…
Dude! when do I get to move in!

Somebody shoot the starter of this thread for calling the great 8 & 16-bits of yore 'retro' (BTW no offense, but I hate the word 'retro').
Anyway-
Sonic 1-3, & Knuckles
Super Mario games
Kirby for the NES is magnificent
Fatal Fury 2 Special (teh grafix @_@!)
I got to Soda Popinski, then lost. I'll kick his ass in the rematch!
Oh man…how that game brings back the memories.
Let me know if you need any advice to being Soda Popinski or Super Macho Man.
If it's the one with Mike Tyson...you'll need the reflexes of a madman to conquer him.
Your new roommate is my new hero for classic games.
oh how could I forget

Good times, Good times!
God… best retro game, I'm gonna have to think about this.
Yars Revenge was really good along with Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. But Then there is always, Kirby's Dream Land, Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and then there is Tetris, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
But I guess if I had to choose one I would have to go with Tetris.
I gave up on Kirby when I figured out it took me less than 20 min to beat the first one (for game boy) such a disapointment.
Honestly, the first one pales in comparison to pretty much every other kirby game.

Play Kirby Super Star for SNES. It takes quite awhile to complete everything. Lots of variety and fun 2-player also.
I got to Soda Popinski, then lost. I'll kick his ass in the rematch!
Ugh, he almost always beats me. And if I beat him, I can never get past Super Macho Man. =__=
Wait, which verison do you have? The one with Mike Tyson in it, or the other one?
there was another version? baa?
there was another version? baa?
Punch Out: Featuring Mr. Dream.
From wiki:
n 1990, towards the end of the NES's run, the game was re-released as Punch-Out!!, with the Tyson character replaced by Mr. Dream. Mr. Dream fought in the same fashion as Tyson, but had cosmetic changes to his face and skin color. Contrary to popular belief Tyson was removed not because of his 1991 rape conviction of Miss Black Teen America, but because of a contract dispute with Nintendo and his title loss to Buster Douglas. Tyson was actually removed from the game before he was convicted of rape.
It's the same game though.

I'd have to say that another one of my favorite retro games was Tetris. Does anybody know what makes that game so awsome?
Some of my favourite games:
Zelda 3(snes)
Panzer dragoon saga(ss)
Shining force 3 s1-3(ss)
Indiana Jones & the fate of atlantis(pc)
XCOM - Enemy Unknown(pc)
