I remember watching it when i was a kid back in Hong Kong, and ever since learning about "Fansubs", I've always wonder if any group would fansub it. Now that a fansub group picked it up, I now have another anime on my list. 
Basically, its about a teacher with a devil's hand. 
Thats pretty much all I remember about it.
So…has anyone watch the anime, or read the manga of Hell Teacher Nube before? :happy:
I've read a couple of chapters of the manga…maybe it was just me, or maybe it was just those two chapters, but there seemed to be a lot of emphasis on underage, underdressed girls getting involved with strange supernatural goings-on. Nube was a minor character in those chapters; sad, because I've read a few summaries indicating that he was kick-ass with his 'Devil's Hand'.
The title of this sounded like a bad hentai.
No… it sounded to me like some sort of bad translation title they'd give to a dub of one of those lame feel-good movies where they send the teacher into the ghetto school and somehow he uses poetry to end gang warfare or whatever.
The actual title is Jigoku Sensei Nube, but whatever, that's the literal translation.
I remember Nube from the first Jump i ever bought, some weird teacher with an uncontrollable devil hand eventually harassing his female students. Seemed kinda funny, although the art was very similar to other famous series at the time. Maybe i'll give it a try.

That was a good chapter. And to think it all started because Nube made his teacher angry by rubbing immense boobies! (long story: Nube's old teacher is the one keeping the Oni no Te under control)
Personally love this series: its shonen but more day-to-day like KochiKame with action, horror, weird stuff…and craziness. I tried at one time to set up a group with translations of the first nine volumes (own all 31), but no one really went there and it was on Yahoo...and it was translations, not scanslations. (also tried to work to set up a scanslation group for it but we only got done the first three chapters) Personally would love Viz to release this series in the states, but its rather old ('93-'99) and obscure...not to mention isn't as translated as some of the other stuff coming out.

This is the second best thing to happen short of the Manga getting licsenced! The opening (Bari Bari Saikou #1) also kicks an enourmous amount of ass. I just hope that the releases aren't 2 months apart or something.

Thing is this: I have the first nine volumes of Nube translated as I said in my earlier post, but I am pretty much a freelancer and debate whether to take up doing this series again. I've been pretty much working on some other stuff, but would love to get back into translating if I can get some partners somehow. (last time I tried, as I said, we only got the first three chapters done before we sort of lost touch)
As for the anime…I do want to see it, but the sad thing is that it doesn't really cover as many stories as I would want it to. Toei chose to just do a select number of stories from the first 16 volumes (actually mostly from Vol. 1-13, but skip ahead to do a couple later stories at the end of the series moreso for a couple character tales and a finale...) and cut out a couple characters. While they did make a three-episode OAV later, its just two more stories from a bit later and the first "longer arc" (as in longer than two chapters) of the series. There are so many great things I wish they could have animated both from the first half and from where they stopped, but one thing to remember: Nube was released at the same time as Dragonball GT and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars...and guess which series probably got the big push. (though Nube did do well for itself for its time I hear)

Really didn't count the movies, but I think they are more from what I hear adaptations instead of actual translations of a couple stories.
I recently saw an ep of this up on tokyotosho, the title sparked my curiosity, and from the looks of that manga page it looks like it'll bring teh rofls. Worth a shot

Oh, so someone picked up the fansub. About time: with all these anime getting immediate coverage, its nice to see one or two that people missed from back in the day.
Oh, and Viz licensing the manga would own! Not sure I would buy it again…but I may look through it in a bookstore.
I can vouch for this series. I love it. I have yet to see it's anime though.

cool, one of my favourite comics~ practically a fun encyclopedia of japanese supernatural stuff. gets really good when various important characters gets develop and longer plots involving the greater monsters.
Watched the first episode, kinda predictable but entertaining nonetheless, will keep watching for the time being
OK, finally saw the first episode of the fansub (and thus the first episode of the series) and here are few comments I thought of while watching it:
-I find it an interesting decision by Toei to do the second pilot of the manga as opposed to the first chapter. While they're pretty much similar in a few ways, the first chapter actually sets things up a lot better for one of the final chapters much further down the line. (though since Toei never got that far, who's to blame them)
-I really wish they explained why Hiroshi never trusted Nube in the beginning. But basically here's what really happened: Hiroshi knew of Kimori for a while inside of him, but all of the exorcists he went to before meeting Nube were hacks. Thus why he had so many doubts instead of being a "teacher/student" fight like Toei made it.
-While happy they gave Shizuka a short role in the first episode with the Ichimatsu Doll, they should have used the manga gag involving Nube confusing her with the doll instead of her just showing it off to him. Then again, at least this is one of the few times Shizuka gets any notice…since she mostly becomes a BG girl alongside Noro-chan later. (and even Noro-chan gets more spotlight) Meanwhile: WE NEEDED MORE MIKI!!!
-Wish they used the "Sutra of the White Robed Goddess" for the chant, but I doubt too many people would understand it.
Other than that, it was a fine pilot and hope to see more when I can.

It reminds me of old shows that didn't focus on breakneck fighting and instead taught us a lot of useless (but fun!) information that we may never need. Hell Teacher Nube has really increased my knowledge of Japanese superstition, and is entertaining to boot. Especially this one screencap from 4:

It had an interesting story but I never got to really appreciate it bcoz it was subbed in tagalog in our place and I hated filipino subs >_<

Meh..I remember those chapters…then again, you're looking at the translator. I wrote the script...back in the day I wrote out the script for the first 9 volumes and was starting the tenth before I stopped. Maybe one day I'll get back to it...but don't ask me about scanlations because I don't have the means, resources or time.
