I never saw any of the 10 other films..but even I know 11 is too many
Star trek XI?

As a long time Star Trek fan, seeing the franchise go downhill, initially I would not be looking forward to a new movie, however (I heard about this quite a long time ago), since they're doing something entirely different from before, going back in time to when Kirk and Spock met at the academy and using new actors, I think this has potential.
It's also being directed by JJ Abrams (director of Lost), so… :)

Eccleston NEEDS to be in this movie. (Running Doctor Who joke, where Eccleston comments that he got the part of the Doctor, yet his parents are Trekkies and force him to leave after a single series) but a one where Spock and Kirk meet, interesting I must say, seeing as I'm only really familiar with the first crew I'd like to see some sort of pre-qual, unless it ends up like Star Wars's prequals

Shit Was Fucking Epic. Sylar Be Spock 4eva

Hell yes, loved that flick. Very fun, very epic.
The new Kirk was badass, way cooler than I thought he'd be.
-
Fucking excellent movie.
And I'm not a Star Trek fan by any means.
-
That was an awesome movie, best one so far this year, easily, and I have never watched Star Trek.
-
Movie was really well done overall. I do agree with JJ himself when he says he used the lens flare effect to much but otherwise a great flick. Be surprised where they go from here, maybe some Klingon action.
-
Wow, really I mean it was surprisingly good, graphics, plot, script, just everything surpassed my exceptions ten fold.
Child Kirk: is there a problem officer
LolGreat film
-
Now for the moment of truth: does it even COMPARE to Wrath of Khan?
-
Honestly, more like Wrath of Khan doesn't even compare. Sure some hardcore trekkies won't agree (and that's a battle you can't win) but the movie really makes all other Star Trek movies look very amateurish. I had very high expectations, hey I even made a thread for this movie and I was still blown away. The second credits started rolling I was already hungry for more.
-
Damn. Well then…I can't wait XD
-
Gotto remember that's just how I feel. If you ask around enough hard you will find people who thinks this is a shitty movie. But I would definitely recommend seeing it. Even if you haven't liked Star Trek before and as long as you like this type of movies.
Besides The Undiscovered Country was probably my favourite of the old Star Trek movies anyway . And I have a soft spot for The Voyage Home.
-
Undiscovered Country was lots of fun but yeah, The Voyage Home always gets me. Ah, the childhood of the son of a Trekkie mom XD
-
spock is a mega hottie

All the aliens wouldn't understand Eccelston's 'Geordie Speak' - XD
"Roon Fa Yah Laff !!"

Fantastic movie. Loved every second of it/
9/10
Only gripes were a few cringe worthy dialogue moments like for example:
Everything Scotty says and Bones' awful line of "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?!"…ughhh.
-
Never seen Star Trek anything until I saw this movie. Loved it very much. Must watch series now.

this is all i know about star trek

Holy shit. Words cannot capture the hilarity of that vid accurately.
-
I just saw the movie, and I was left absolutely breathless. My thoughts can be read here: http://tinyurl.com/pqc5pj

Saw this today. As it is the first thing Star Trek I ever watched I was quite suprised. (Actually. I watched Nemesis before. Now lets never speak of that shit again.) Simon Pegg won it for me (and was initially the only reason why I watched the film) and was brilliant as Scotty. The rest of the main cast were good too. Except the woman. Couldn't see the point of her at all except being Spock's Love Interest.
Couldn't say I cared about the enemy much. Was more interetsed in the crew which is a shame.
I think its 7/10. Better than the other overhyped movies this past year (Watchmen, Dark Knight. I'm looking at you here.) I do think if you saw the original series this would be a lot more special for you.
And lets not forget I STILL haven't forgiven Star Trek for the blatent Cybermen rip off that is 'The Borg'
-
I was going to talk about how awesome the new movie is but I just watched Taboo's video and that kind of left my speechless.
I'm gonna go laugh myself to sleep now.Couldn't say I cared about the enemy much. Was more interetsed in the crew which is a shame.
Um…sounds like they did it right then?
-
I really liked it. Excellent movie.
Something aside from "alternate universe" needed to be done to introduce the antagonist AND Spock, though.
One thing a lot of people are griping about is Nero sucked. I didn't see it that way. Not touching on Nero or making him interesting kept interest in the main cast. Having a compelling villain and a compelling cast is too much for an introductory movie, I think.
Nero did bother me at times though. I wasn't sure when or if he was aware he had gone back in time. He even called out James Kirk on his "killing" of George Kirk, which didn't make much sense giving his seemingly estranged state of mind with the present.
I mean the fool waited in the same spot for 25 years. Why didn't he seek out the younger Spock with his nigh-invincible futuristic mining ship?
-
Because he wanted the Spock that already knew what happened to see his planet die as well as the younger one.
