I only recall scorpions in Alabasta…unless it's something from the first TV special, something is pinging in my brain...if you could link one of the amvs that contain the scene it might help.

I think the scene that you're talking about is from the first television special, that 'Ocean's Navel' thing, like CosmicDebris mentioned. There was a scene in that, around halfway through or so, where Zoro is in a barren field sort of thing surrounded by rusty swords and he fights a giant crab-monster, or a lobster, or something like that. And he tells Luffy to go ahead without him so that he can fight the giant seafood-monster, but eventually Sanji shows up to help…or something.
Man, it's been a while since I've watched that. Let's go check.
Ha HAH! My memory isn't completely wasted. I think I found the exact scene you're looking for. It is in the first special and the fight starts right at around 30:05 or so. Luffy's in a scungy cloak and Zoro fights a giant red claw monster. I still think it's a lobster, but, and not a scorpion. From what I can tell it doesn't seem to have a curled spike-tail and its antennae are pretty lobster-like. Either way, I'm almost absolutely certain that's the scene you're looking for.

Ah, I thought it might be that…but it's been so long since I've seen that special (because quite honestly I think it sucks) that I everything is hazy. Maybe I should watch it again and see if it's as bad as I remember.
