Sorry if this is a worthless thread, but I was thinking…. The SHP have a captain, first mate, navigator, sharkshooter, cook, doctor, researcher, carpenter, and hopefully soon a musician. But who will Luffy or Oda-sama chose next as a crew member? I personally think a magician... yes because if you have a bony guy who plays music then why not have a Fishman or merman that can do a few magic trick!? So what are your thoughts on this?
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

After Robin joined as historian nothing is really off limits. Also remember that some members are just ship hands. So if a new member joined and had no job then it wouldnt be a crime.

I don't really like Brooke yet. He's a "gentleman" skeleton who's really a jackass. I know it's a joke, but his character hasn't really shown any worth to being on the crew. However, I originally disliked Franky, but Oda definitely redeemed the character.
So who would come after a musician?
Suggested positions:
Fisherman (Usopp fishes, but isn't that good)
Lookout (Usopp would fit, but he isn't assigned to it)
Diplomat/Communications officer (Brooke, maybe, if he joins, or Robin)
Wench (not gonna happen)
Diver (maybe a mermaid, like suggested above)
Deckhand/Rigger (everyone's job at the moment)
Helmsman (Nami usually doesn't do it due to the strength required)
Master weaponsmith (Usopp can't craft pure weapons)Unofficially filled positions:

Alchemist (Chopper)

I really dobut Brooke joins. My opinion is that it will be a mer/fish woman, I don't know what role that fills.

Well, personally I'm not "sold" on Brooke yet. I don't have a strong opinion about him joining either way. We just barely got to know him.
I think at this point there's a 50% chance of him joining. -
To me Brooke has large chance, seeing as how Luffy wants him as his crewmate and telling Brooke that he will get his shadow back. Brooke runs off and now the entire Straw Hat Crew is plunged into another adventure.
Also, a fishman or someone of that nature might be the next possibility. They would be a large help with anything having to do with water. Although I think it's way too early to think of another crewmate before we even get the Brooke thing straight.

There aren't really any positions to fill that are especially useful to the crew. A helmsman would be good, though they don't particularly need one. Would be useful, though, so the rest can concentrate on their stuff…

To me Brook has a great chance of joining because
A) Yuffy wants him on the crew bad because to yuffy him as a person is awesome and he fills the role he belives is most important. On top of that the only reason he did not join was because he has no shadow and would die if he did. (which is prolly yuffy's reason to go on Thriller bark)
B) He said he had to fight some one. It is shown that if a important arc character fights he has a good chance of joining.(Sanji, Franky, and Chopper for examples)
C) Since we found out that HogBack and Brooks are connected it would be hard to exsplain the story of Brook and his relation to HogBack without a flash back would be neer impossible. And when some one has a flash back that means a new crew member (Except for the sky arc.)
As for "selling Brook" we will see more of him since he's obviously a major arc character. I think he'll grow on more people as the story goes on.

I don't know, I have this suspicion that Oda is trying to fill up the crew before they reach the New World. If this is true then its extremely likely that they do get another nakama after Brook (Brook would definately be joining if my suspicion is right) at Gyojin Isle. My idea for the new nakama would be a male gyojin (fishman) with Arlong-ish strength, who fights with a spear (afterall, the SH need more fighters coming up to the NW). As for job on ship, they could be the helmsman, afterall gyojin do have a local affinity to water (Nami is a great navigator and all but she is no helmsman, and Chopper is as much a helmsman as Usopp was a shipwright). He could also double up as diver/fisherman, using his spear to hunt fish, not to mention he would be the best choice for capturing fish for the SH's onboard aquarium….

I agree with most people about Brook. I wonder how good of a fighter he is though and what kind of style he uses. Maybe he beats mofos with his cane or something. But yeah, after him, that'd be kikass if they get a mermaid. They need atleast one more female in there.

I don't see how a Mermaid or Merman could join. The crew is generally very close, but they'd have to stay in the water and would only occasionally appear. A Gyojin could join, I guess…

- I´d be veeery surprised if Luffy wouldn´t get what he wants …... on a second thought I´m not sure if Brooke wouldn´t be a very difficult character if he joined permanently (even for Oda) - skeleton and pervy jokes might become old quite fast and the everyday interaction in the crew might feel ... hm, strange?

As of the current chapter, I don't think Brooke should join. I do like him, but with his current development I don't think he'd fit in just yet. That could very soon change, however.

If the crew needed a diplomat, Oda would have had Vivi join. Speaking of her though, I could see her using her political influence to secretly help the crew later on in the series.

What I'm trying to get at here is that all of the strawhats are strong despite having the power of the physically weakest sentient species in their world. Why would Oda break that by introducing a new crewmember who would be stronger at birth than a human? Once again, I think that the next crewmember, hell, all new crewmembers will be, in some way, shape, or form, human.
Plus, this idea includes Brook. Technically, he is a human. Just a human without skin, organs, or muscle.

Because even though Humans are generaly the weakest race the power of the SH is a very big exception (and who ever they face really). And just because they are stronger doesnt make them better fighters.
Just like the SH were able to beat arlongs Fish-Men early in the story. They where ten times as strong as men but they all lost. Introducing a Merman/maid would hardly faulter the power of the others.

You know, the more people wish the next crewmember to be a female merman, the less I hope s/he will be. I mean, it would be cool to have more non-human characters besides Chopper, but I'd rather want Oda to come up with something more original than a merman. Since everyone is predicting/hoping for a female merman, having one join the crew would seem unoriginal and predictable. So far most of the new crewmembers have been VERY unpredictable, and I would like for that trend to continue.

Yeah but how many mermaids have we seen? I just wanna see a mermaid that can kick some ass. She doesn't even have to join (although that'd be cool). I just think the diversity in the crew is pretty amazing and that seems to be what Oda's going for. I also would like at least one more female in the crew. One like the top fighters (Luffy/Zoro/Sanji/Franky) who has very good physical strength and maybe somewhat of an attitude. SO basically, a badass tomboy mermaid is what I hope we'll get sooner or later

The trouble with having a female mermaid join the crew is she will always be over 30 years old. If our previous mermaid was anything to go by… I don't want to see anymore 30+ female mermaids, I'd rather see another Camie type.
Then again, you might a rather sassy mermaid around 35-40 years old who wouldn't be too much of shock as Kororo was.
